I love the way Dave stays quiet and listens to what Matt has to say and when Dave does speak its totally relevant stuff. That's one thing I always respected about Dave. He's forgotten more about training than most will ever know yet the process of learning more never stops for him.
I needed this video. I've been struggling with my nutrition and sleep and I'm 28 this year. Knew I had to focus on my health and this just made me realize it more.
God Matt is a gift such an intelligent person however I never feel stupid listening to him the way he’s able to breakdown complex information into digestible content is a life saver
Matt is absolutely right. I’ve been lifting since I was a teenager and kept trying to work through injuries. This held me back from reaching my potential. I was pretty inconsistent with lifting. I’m in my mid 40’s now and just shit canned heavy lifting. I’m putting in the effort to get my joints healthy and slowly getting back into weights. Time to focus on the long game.
I really like what he said about finding your way in I've always been an athlete and when I tried to get my wife into it for her weight loss and health hated it but she started seeing a nutritionist started feeling better and now she loves her workouts her way in was completely different then mine and she's actually really helped me clean my nutrition but that's her way
Good luck on your journey my bro. I was and still am an avid fan and follower of the mountain dog John Meadows. His legacy is even stronger now as he was an honest hard working, loving family man. RIP big dog. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I'm 35, just attempting to get back to it, and guess what this is my 4th time trying, and I really needed to hear the first part about train for health first, and strength will follow, that's exactly what I started doing and so far, I like the fact that I don't have that stress of "I need to get stronger" off my back, and I know in due time I'll get back to where I was before my injuries, basically I'm competing with my old self.
I eat a base of nutritious food but I have to add lots of foods like sweets, gainer powder with milk, pancakes, ice cream etc because if I don’t get those calories in I’ll lose 25lbs of body weight and lose a ton of strength and fullness
@realmattwenning was your father diagnosed w colangiocarcinoma? Also, talked w you at NSCA Hammer Strength clinic in CSprings, March 2017 (from 4th ID), still appreciate your perspective sir.
Trying to get my kid at 22 yo to eat a little bit cleaner. It's hard. And he's definitely not a hard gainer. He was around 290 at his first meet, and 5 years later, 355. I disagree with Matt on one thing - more mass does help you lift more weight raw if you're in the SHW category. But you need a lot more mass than just being a few pounds into the SHW category. Sure a few have succeeded that way, but you really need to get into the 370-400lb range to make it work. Look at Ray Williams or Julius Maddox - easily 400lbs plus. The current IPF SHW raw champion, Jesus Oliveras, is around 380 or so. 140kg and below, the extra fat mass doesn't really help (for lifters using PEDs) and probably around 120kg for natty lifters (per Greg Nuckols). I totally agree with Matt on a lot of strength studies just not having the right cohorts to be that relevant for the advanced lifter.
"National hot dog eating champion" LOL But he is right. I was like that. Strong af but bloated. Now at 47 health is main concern. Still strong but with way better cardio 👍

28 was when my body stopped letting me get away with training like a meathead. 30 now and I can’t believe the difference between 5 years ago and now
Ha. Wait til you hit 60
U are still young you still have time
@@ericjablonski8838 lol I'm 53 so thanks for the heads up lol

64 here. Cleaning my diet and getting stronger every day. “Hormonally your body’s in shambles.” Thank you for this outstanding show.
Spot on: get healthy

Incredible video and topic because I needed to hear this. Honestly I make/justify my choices and need to change that.
Haven’t watched yet but I’m gonna guess he says something along the lines of stayin injury free and listening to your body. Let’s find out
Shit I was wrong
Literally came to Matt for this reason: I’m 35 and want to be strong but, healthy first.
fuck! so many good points here.
This guy is legit
Lots of amazing stuff here. Top quality discussion.
This was excellent, so many good points and I can relate on so many things. Glad to be able to hear conversations like this, thanks guys
Top Show !
It is great to see Healthy powerlifters. There is a lot of self destructive behaviors in powerlifting that is a big turn off.
Can you give us info on Serrano and the other person Matt was talking about ? Very interested in what they have to say and how to implement such.
Good one

Thank you! What test to learn my levels?

I think matt was giving that advise to ppl who will live to understand it. Most 350 - 400ibers won't unless they drop some weight as they age.
Someone please, tell me what tests I need to run/pay for so I can learn about my body. I need to know what to fix.

I'm new here, what's Serrano's first name? I don't recall them mentioning it
Might be Dr. Eric Serrano. Looked him up and a Vid with Joh Meadows popped up.
Bull Hurly!!!! Lol 😂. Only a few of us old asses will know who that is!!! My first PG-13 movie!!!!
Can someone tell me who this Dr Serrano is?
