@@aceofspade2120 Pike was in her 30s-40s in the campaign(Ashley never gave an exact age), Scanlan has always been the oldest of the cast, it just never seemed like it(except for the whole daughter thing) also the white dragon thing isnt how the hair happened.
@@aceofspade2120 Scanlan started the campaign at 69 and was 70 by the end, Ashley stated pikenwas in her 30s, she was still a teen/young adult when she met Grog and they basically grew up together. Goliath's don't live that long.
I remember there was a time in the campaign Matt described a bunch of kids climbing all over Grog. And Grog was uneasy at first and said something like "they're really little 😬" and Vex comforted him by saying "kinda like gnomes" and Grog GASPED and was like "yeah, I'm ok with this now"
So if you watch all the herd and who they kill youll notice other members of the herd killing innocent civillians who are unarmed. Grog is only ever shown killing armed opponents (Which doesnt make it good but definitly not as bad). When his cousin proposes killing Pop Pop, he says "Hes not a fighter, hes just an old fella" which means hes not interested in killing unarmed civilians that cant defend themselves. It means that Grog is naturally good at heart but due to the culture he grew up around ended up doing horrible things until he realized that he probably shouldnt have been doing these things in hte first place and rebelled.
Yeah. He loves violence, and doesn't think twice about the morality of it if he's up against someone who's fighting back, but when he sees a tiny, unarmed gnome who can't defend themself being threatened, he knows instinctively that it isn't right.
FYI, in most D&D lore, dragons have honorifics/titles they give themselves usually to instill fear in "lesser" being. In the case of the Chroma Conclave, it's Thordak the Cinder King Brimscythe the Iron Storm Vorugal the Frigid Doom Raishan, the Diseased Deceiver Umbrasyl, the Hope Devourer
Awesome reaction team, this series is goated. Grog's people conduct themselves if a interesting way. Their views on life seems similar to how a lion pride would act. The pride doesn't care if an antelope dies, as its death will further the pride. Often lions look for the old or enfeebled as they are weaker, offering a reward for reduced effort. Grog's realization that he shouldn't kill Grandpa Trickfoot was like a break from instinct into rationalization of right and wrong.
grog didn't get concussed into a goofball - dude excels in battle, but didn't have much means or purpose to show his goofy side, nor any means to learn, so his low intelligence has many opportunities to reveal itself. serious dude with a silly side is very easily a thing. on the more literal meta level, travis went with a low intelligence barbarian because his aims in the game were to simply punch/stab/kill things and make money. when matt started moving the story towards grog's arc here, travis himself was just as antsy as grog was here about having to be the focal character. travis is a great team player, and it definitely takes a smart man to play an amazing idiot like grog, but dude kept things simple for grog, so i'd have my doubts that he'd weave in what i'd think would be a complicated detail. and just to make sure it's spelled out, pike's hair went white after a pre-stream part of the campaign. while i think it could easily not be included in the show, it's interesting backstory, so it might be used in later seasons, though idk how they'd include a flashback. wilhand was the one almost attacked by grog. even though they've a family of trickfoots, it was just pike living with wilhand before grog joined them as a big little bro. so that was pike and wilhand in wilhand's locket. and per grog's own backstory blurb that they included during the campaign: "Exiled from his herd, it was then that the relative of the very gnome he fought to save, saved him. It was the kindness of a gnome cleric named Pike that healed Grog, bringing him back from death's edge. And they have remained close friends ever since."
The traumatic brain injury idea is an interesting observation! I'm not sure if they did that in the stream, but it's a good idea. Grog was never supposed to have been very bright. Even before his injury he couldn't read or write and doesn't understand numbers all that well. However, the injury could definitely have made it worse.
As Sam said "I put so little thought in this character that I just thought up a random musician, pulled up wikipedia, and typed up his history as Scanlan's."
Until this episode I expected them to skip the bit about why Pike has white hair. But yeah, Gnomes live a long time. Depending on the setting, they can live to be like 300. In another setting they don't die of old age, they die when they run out of things to keep them occupied. They literally die of boredom. They can live for a few hundred years if they find something they love to do.
I dont know. Nothing about past Grog tells me he was any smarter than he is now, lol. It's probably also cuz he's just that "not very smart brute" archetype
"You've never played boulder parchment shears?" Pike's hair turned white after she was bisected by a glabrezu and resurrected. Also, Scanlan was originally a member of Dr. Dranzel's troupe before joining VM... speaking of, he is once again swayed by a child. As for Kevdak, I think all that time with the vestige *has* made him a coward. Of course, taking him down is why Grog wanted to keep Craven Edge in the first place.
In the first episode back in season 1, it was established that Vex and Vax only cared about themselves, so why would their father think they weren't still like that. He wasn't there to see their growth as people / heroes.
@@sandpiperr Without giving too much away... Possible spoiler below... They were raised by their mother. He didn't know they existed until after she died (when they were 10?). I believe they only lived with dear old dad for 3-4 years.
