    Thank you for this video that clearly showed me how to do this. My wired-in detector went off after midnight when I was sleeping. There were no warning beeps to tell me that the battery was low. Thanks Kidde for almost giving me a heart attack with the thing yelling fire, strobe lights and all. Still I'm glad to know I am safe.

    Thank you for your useful information. I was able to solve the problem that bothered me for a long time with your video. I was aware of the fire alarm beeping sound was caused by a low battery, but other instruction videos explained how to change the battery with different models from mine. I was frustrated because I didn't know how to disconnect the smoke alarm from the wires. You let me know how to disconnect it. Thank you very much. I am happy that I do not have to wake up in the middle of the night anymore.

    Thank you - the hardest part is how to get it detached from the ceiling mount, which you showed very well.
    One detail missing is the polarity of the battery. It turns out this information is on the underside of the battery cover, but it is very hard to read, as it's in raised letters in the plastic, and there is no contrast between the letters and the underlying plastic. So just use a flashlight or your mobile phone light to make it all readable. On the model HD135F that we have, the polarity markings are near the hinge of the cover.

    Thank you so much for this! I think I just be missing a step though. I followed everything to replace the battery and it was still chirping, but, not beeping. I put in the batter two different ways to test it out. I put the battery in and the red battery reminder clip went down too. Closed everything up, screwed it back into the ceiling, pressed the test button and it did a series of beeps. About a minute later, it is still chirping. Not the super loud alarm, just a chirp. What am I missing?

    • @How2
      @How2  11 дней назад

      Did you press and hold the button to reset? That is very important.
      Also, make sure the battery is new and inserted in the right direction as labeled.
      If it still foesnt solve, then unit is malfunctioning and need replacement.

    • @How2
      @How2  2 года назад

      It can be stuck due to paint spill on it?
      May be try little harder!
      Also, it can be the one with in-built battery, that doesn't open. If its older than 10 years, then need unit replacement. Check smoke for manufacturing date sticker.
      Or you can contact Kidde Customer Care and ask for warranty replacement unit.

    Thank you for the video. I got a quesiton about battery replacement. I replaced the battery for one of 4 smoke detectors in my house as it was chirping, but the red light continues to flash (no chirping sound) every 15 seconds. The red light flashes on other 4 smoke detectors as well, which I presume means their batterries are running low. But why is the one that I replaced still flashes with red light? Is it because it is connected to the rest? Thank you!

    • @How2
      @How2  Год назад

      Hello,
      As per Kidde Website, below can be the reasons-
      Red LED Indicator: The red LED will blink in conjunction with the alarm sound. Therefore, the red LED will blink during a smoke alarm, a low battery mode chirp, a unit error mode chirp or at end of unit life.

    • @How2
      @How2  Год назад +2

      Hello,
      If you are removing the unit to change the battery then you don't need to turn off the power and its plastic adapter that directly goes into the unit and doesn't expose you to any wiring.
      But if you are planning to replace the smoke detector unit then, recommended to turn off the power.
      Also, if you dont feel safe taking the adaptor even though its safe, i would recommend turning OFF the breaker so you don't feel hesitancy of any kind.

    Do you have to turn off the breaker or is it safe to do it without flipping anything at the breaker?

    • @How2
      @How2  3 года назад +2

      Hello,
      Yes, there will be breaker for all the Smoke Detector's together.
      If you are just changing battery, its advised to turn off breaker for just in case scenario. But you can also do it without turning off the breaker, you you will be cutting the connection at the back while you remove the Smoke Detector.
      Thanks

    Also- is it best to replace all the other batterues as well..or just the one chirping? I'm not sure also if the one in the luving room is the main one?

    • @How2
      @How2  3 года назад

      Hello,
      I would only recommend to replace battery for Smoke that chirp.
      All smoke detectors are inter-connected. All serve their purpose at location they are installing; so there is no main smoke but all are equally important.
      Hope this answers your question.
      Thanks

    • @How2
      @How2  Год назад +1

      Hello,
      The breaker needs to be turned OFF if you are doing anything with the Breaker wiring. If you are just changing the Batteries as shown in the video using the battery flap door, then power can stay ON, as the wiring the behind the ceiling plate and you won't be accessing behind the plate.

    My detector doesn’t have a battery door. How do I open it to change battery?

    • @How2
      @How2  2 года назад +1

      Yours might be the one with 10- years sealed battery.
      This model requires whole unit to be changed. You can use End of life hush button which can silent this warning for 3 days at max and by that time you can buy new one.
      If it's less than 10 years, you can manufacturing date on back of the unit, you can contact Kidde Customer Care and see if they cover it under warrantya nd will send you replacement.

      This model requires whole unit to be changed. You can use End of life hush button which can silent this warning for 3 days at max and by that time you can buy new one.
      FYI, even one with battery change model, whole smoke Detector requires replacement after 10 years of life.
      10 years is Max life for any Smoke Detector.

    I’m twisting it really hard and it’s not coming off. What am I doing wrong?

    • @How2
      @How2  Год назад

      Hello,
      May be try using bit of added force, also, make sure you are turning it on the clockwise direction to open. Latching system on these Smoke Detector is very simple and doesn't require any special tools.
      Sometimes if paint or paint touch up is done after smokes are installed, paint drips to the frame and dries off. Try cleaning that and open.
      Please also check if your Smoke is with a built-in battery, which doesn't open but need whole unit replaced. Check face of smoke detector to see which one is it. There might be manufacturing date, if Smoke mal-functions within 10 years, it has a limited warranty and Kidde can be contacted for a replacement unit.
      Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any other question.
