Tbh, it wasn't this video that hurt, it was seeing my mum's reaction cause she had to go through that harassment in her childhood as she was from an interacial family, and she just look so disappointed yet not surprised.
The view which the Chinese guy is actually quite common amongst many Singaporeans, it's just that they don't show it openly. Personally, I have seen many Indians/Malays who are financially successful and are in interracial relationships with Chinese get looked down upon. It's just one of the things you get used to when growing up in Singapore as a minority.
Spot on spotlight! I hv seen similar issues. My supervisor once told me chinese see interracial kids are seen as devils! I was stunned.

When racist is singapore is not being made accountable for their action thus those being harrased by racist feels hopeless and stay silent. If the harrased stands up the rasict will play a victim card.....and you will see the racist sympathizer backing them up or silence the actions. On another note. I couldn’t even watch the original video the first time. After less than a minute in, I had to stop. It was so hard to continue watching. I skipped to different bits to see what they would be saying. It was hard for me because I’m a Chinese girl dating an Indian guy. What’s even worse, is that my mom is the one saying all the bad stereotypes of my boyfriend when she first found out about us. Imagine your own mom saying these sort of racist things, like Indian not treating women right. Not exactly the same situation. But the pain is still there. I can only imagine the pain this couple was going through.
But luckily for Dave and Jacqueline, their parents sealed their relationship with blessings. So they have got strong support from the beginning. What worries me is this lecturer thinking that one's race should not be polluted with another race to preserve the Chinese blood. It is a very backward thinking. He even speak like Adolf Hitler! Your mum's fear could be from rumours or old wives tale in the past. I will kindly allay all her fear if i were you and let her see the broader picture.

hey there. I really hope you feel better and then things will start to come around for your mom. When I first introduced my indian husband to my extended family, my aunty started saying the exact same things that I'm a disgrace, he will leave me soon after marriage to go back to india, he will be disloyal. It was so ridiculous because she said all these hateful and hurtful words during the family gathering, right in front of him, in chinese. It was sooooo disrespectful. I had to call her out and confront the racist and hateful comments there and then. It was awkward and painful. Educating racists is hard and all we can do is to soldier on, remain hopeful, and live our best lives! focus on those people who have embraced ur inter racial r/s. :)
@@macadamiaization just be patient with your mum. All mums want the best for their children so that protective nature of her could be the way of showing her care. If your boyfriend can show that her fear is not true, high chance she will accept him eventually and whole-heartedly. I wish u all the best. Cheers😊

Ppl make fun of performative activism and reposting but when when it comes to racism, I think ppl are forgetting one aspect where social media comes into play, which is education. Racism in Singapore has always been somewhat of a grey area as ppl find it so hard to come to a definitive concludion(mainly due to the fact that we choose to ignore minority voices). Personally for me, I grew up around adults who were constantly making racist remarks and jokes and as a brainless child, I didn't have a filter for all these terrible things ive heard from ADULTS. I only found out about right and wrong thru social media. And I think that rising cases of racists are helpful in bringing up conversation and deabte. We can't pretend to just live in the Utopia where there is no hate

Similar incidents happened to me when I was dating Chinese girls in the past. Even though I am not with a Chinese girl now, many Chinese people come up to me and start talking about incidents where Indians are involved. Delta virus, tekka market closure, etc. One thing I have learned is that these people won't accept their mistakes and do not want to change. They have confirmed it in their heads that they are right and will verbally attack anyone who is anything other than Chinese. It is about time they got caught and I applaud the action of the couple. Kudos to the both of them. Lastly, love is meant to be blind. It does not see color. It does not see anything at all. Perhaps, these race warriors should just keep their mouths shut because there is no room for racism here and their delusional one sided opinions are what we care about the least.

Racial harmony is an important aspect of social harmony and stability. No ground for tolerance when someone stirs uncalled antagonism among different races.
This Karen, as a lecturer ,should jolly well know when he is living and teaching in Singapore. His intent definitely needs to be investigated.
No Singaporean should allow this to ruin and cause harm to our racial harmony, which is one of the cornerstones of our stability....

I am extremely glad on action of the government. This man must be terminated from his job because he harassed a Muslim student in class. The student most definitely suffered going to his class. I come from mixed parentage and they had a great marriage with respect and dignity for each other. The lecture had the audacity to speak in such a demeaning manner to Dave on race , and the student on Islam. No religion or race is superior to any other religion or race. Respect goes a long way. This incident should be nipped in the bud, so that these occurrences will not happen
