Cylenium i don’t think he was “protecting child molesters” ??? the psychologists who talked to the kids clearly led them to say certain things rather than listening to what their stories were without any kind of manipulation. I don’t think that wanting to hear the untampered with truth is the same as protecting child molesters.

I was sexually assaulted at 4 years old by a daycare worker in 1987... because of the panic associated with this case, my abuser was released and allowed to work in a daycare in California..... Even though my case was real, and had substantial evidence to prosecute.

I dated a woman once who would tell her children, basically what to say and believe and when they repeated it to her to appease her she would use that as "proof" that she was right because "even a child can see it". It's pretty scary how bad adults can be with kids.

Fortunately I was able to tell my doctor exactly what she had done and he was released from jail. She was even punished and lost visitation w me for a while. I still resent her for this. My step father never did treat me any differently even after this traumatic experience he endured.

They Hate The Truth proven? There were no convictions and there was sufficient evidence to acquit these people. I take sexual assault accusations very seriously and am more inclined to believe accusers than those accused 99/100 times, but I also can see how this situation was handled extremely poorly and how the school encouraged parents to essentially coach their children into saying things and even make them question their own memory. I obviously don’t think this was anyone’s intentions but they didn’t know at the time how to properly interview children. (And the trial by media only made this case so much worse. If anything, the media was quick to virtually convict these people, pre-trial(s). Not quite the kind of propaganda you’re describing. The very opposite, actually.) As I said, I know first hand how confusing it can be to have adults constantly ask you if you’d ever been touched inappropriately by someone. For years I questioned whether something really did happen to me, so yes I even understand and relate to the children who stand by their original complaints. Please don’t tell me what I can/can’t relate to. I’m perfectly capable of drawing my own comparisons, thank you.

The lead therapist who interviewed these children at Children's Institute was also dating Wayne Sikes, the Channel 7 reporter that "broke" the story. The interview techniques were flawed and it began to take on a life of its own. Ira Reiner was also running for District Attorney for LA County and he needed something to keep his face in the news, so he was part of the problem. My brother-in-law was a district attorney investigator working on this case and said it was problematic from the start. He had to spend night shifts guarding a vacant lot where the children said the dead bunnies were buried - no dead bunnies were recovered. It's sad that Ira Reiner, Wayne Sikes, and Children's Institute International were able to ruin seven lives, not to mention victimizing the children, for their own personal gain. They should be tried.

Interviewing methods were much more flawed back then - including interviews of suspects of crime. There was more of a focus on "close the case" and "get the confession", at a cost of "find the truth" and "innocent until proven guilty". We learn and we move on. We might have learned some more if these people dared to appear in this little documentary - but they're probably afraid of harassment.

Discernment is a skill few people posses and discerning mainstream media's BS will always be for the minority. That is why it is called MAINSTREM media its made to appeal to the masses. Yes pedophile rings exist, yes the ratio of people in positions of power being connected to pedophile rings and pedophile tendency is extremely high. Yes the Mcmartin pre-school was used as such for many years, and so are many other schools and agencies acting as fronts are actually selling and exploiting children on a daily basis.

This would be funny if innocent people hadn't had their lives ruined by this nonsense. Child abuse is a real issue, but the vast majority of cases involve someone close to the child (parents, family friends, etc).
There was a literal witch hunt in the 80s and 90s. The Satanic Panic resulted in many innocent people getting sent to prison. Some are still locked up today. The "evidence" was so outlandish there's no way it could've been true. Kids being peed and shat on, taken through underground tunnels, witches flying through the air...just pure nonsense.
The quack psychologists and prosecutors pushing this BS should be rotting in prison.

David Underferth even if they would speak out now as adults it is still complicated. as it s said in the interview many of them were led into giving certain answers. it is mentioned that the first few times when asked if they took part in "naked games" kids would answer no and that after noticing that there would be no end to the interview if they don t give the expected answer kids started to admit to different things. this raised the problem of induced memories on these children that could even be traumatised later in life by this false memories. all this just because some incompetent person was putting the questions in such ways that the answer was already in the question. kids just had to aswer positive.

Young Bloodyy is right. The memories of those children have been irrevocably tampered with. We understand that pretty well today. Some of them may still report that these ridiculous claims happened to them. They didn't even get into some of the insane things that the kids reported that were taken as absolute truth at the time, such that the children were flushed down gigantic toilets to get to a secret bunker under the day care where they were made to be part of Satanic rituals. There was no basement or any kind of man-made space under the day-care, and a few of the investigators looked really, really hard for it.

The system was exercised and did the job it is supposed to do. You would think people would just be relieved that due process was carried out correctly. But evidently, many, many commenters are still furious that any investigation results from over a hundred accusations of abuse. God forbid any prosecutor be allowed to indict anyone and put them on trial! By your standards, evidently they have to have fresh DNA evidence or every abuser gets a get-out-of-jail-free card. How convenient for people guilty of assault that would be.

There is an article that one of these kids wrote recently apologizing for lying about being molested. He mentions that he was never molested and just went along with it because that is what everyone wanted to hear. For example, when his mother was going to question him, he kept insisting that he was fine because nothing happened to him. He asked her seriously to listen to him, she says she will listen, and when he tells her again that he was not molested she continues to not listen. Obviously this is one case of a person coming out to say they lied, but there is still a likely possibility that many kids came out with these accusations because that is what they wanted to hear.

Something similar happened with one mom in the Peter Ellis SRA case in NZ. In her book "A Mother's Story", she constantly asked her son if he had been abused, each week, to reassure herself. The first time he was asked he said no, but with the repeated questioning his replies progressively changed until he was saying utterly fantastical stories about Ellis abusing him. Experiments, including the Mousetrap experiment, have shown that simply asking a kid the same question each week for a period of time will cause them to start saying a false story that grows increasingly detailed and they become convinced it is true. So I reckon that mother is far more likely to be responsible for her son's horrific stories of SRA abuse than Ellis is. BTW, she founded a society against SRA, and members had to believe SRA existed without question. Those who did question it were expelled. I wonder how they took it when SRA was finally discredited as a hoax and mass hysteria.

That is really sad to me. These children have nothing to apologize for. They were all victims of a botched investigation as well. I heard that many of them needed therapy years later for some of the things they heard during the questioning. These kids were preschoolers!

coolguy bubs in the Peter Ellis case (another McMartin) one mother kept asking her son each week if Ellis had molested him. Research, such as the Mousetrap Experiment, has shown that even asking a kid the same question each week will have them going from "no" the first week to spinning increasingly detailed and convincing stories several weeks on. This is what happened with the boy. First he said no in the first week, then a vague yes in the second, and as the weeks went on he was telling stories of abuse that got more and more bizarre.

You think police giving parents a chance to discuss this with their kids themselves, versus police investigators knocking door to door of hundreds of families was a bad thing. How do you think accusations of child abuse should be investigated? As a result of this case, and decades of other cases following, we have hopefully developed some better procedures around it. Before this, without physical proof, many accusations would just be disregarded, and that is a shameful, dark period of our history when child abuse did not used to be taken as seriously as it is now.

Linda Lemoni Agreed. Any chances I had of becoming a teacher have been killed off by how many idiotic parents and Internet crazies think teachers are all molesters and perverts. My parents (teachers) had enough other stuff to deal with, including working with kids who'd been physically abused at home and possibly more, without becoming witches to burn in the community. I'd rather get low wages and have no vacation time for the rest of my life than be accused of a sick crime I'd never commit.

There's a Danish movie called The Hunt which is about a preschool teacher falsely accused because the other preschool teachers who have no bloody clue what they're doing lead a child into making an accusation. It's really good and I cried a lot. I don't know if maybe it was based on this case but this report reminded me of it.

    • @ferociousgumby
      @ferociousgumby 6 лет назад +4

Chronic constipation in kids causes the same things it does in adults. Unfortunately it's easy to fit the "evidence" to match the theory/foregone conclusion. I do remember in the '90s that some therapists used hypnosis (on adults) in order to retrieve repressed memory of childhood sexual abuse. I think it was an unreliable and misleading tool and led to a lot of confusion and family alienation. Many of the women were blamed for making stuff up, even if they were sincerely trying to help themselves via a faulty and unreliable method. But did that mean there were no valid cases? And how to separate them and evaluate what actually happened? Unfortunately, society did its usual thing and cried "witch hunt!", and decided repressed memory didn't exist and sexual abuse of children was extremely rare, which of course is nonsense - we see reports of it (especially child pornography from the most shocking sources) every night on the news. And I won't even get into the Catholic church - almost none of that had come out then, and if it had, it likely would have been met with denial and disbelief. It was the usual flip-flop from one extreme to another, with the truth sinking in the swamp. Though it was on every magazine cover for a couple of years, the whole thing went underground and you never heard about it again. If I mention the whole "false memory" controversy to anyone, they look at me strangely and seem to think it never happened (hmm, interesting) because they have no memory of it at all. (Should have kept some of those magazines.) I often wonder what happened to all those women with devastating sexual abuse histories who stepped into a trap not of their own making.

@@EyeofZai The problem with this assertion is that the parents first received a letter from law enforcement asking them to inquire with their own kids themselves about their experiences. No one can explain why a parent whose kid denied any abuse would have then insisted they go and see a therapist who was part of the investigation regardless of being told there was nothing to worry about in their case. It makes no logical sense. So, there was not an overwhelming problem with kids not being believed. I can see why you would be criticizing the one recording that is out there of a therapist pressing the one kid we can say denied the abuse when sent to therapy. The problem is, we don't have the benefit of hearing all the other sessions where that did not occur. We have no way of knowing what all the other sessions were like. The one questionable session gets taken out of context, and people jump to the conclusion that over a hundred others were flawed and trying to overcome objections. Quite possibly none, or the overwhelming majority, ever denied it, but reiterated what they had ALREADY TOLD THEIR PARENTS that got them in therapy in the first place.

A similar case happened in Brazil in 1994. And it is eerie how much resembles this one. All media jumped in and in no time an angry mob destroyed the school to the ground. In the end not an ounce of concrete evidence was found and the case was closed. I remember even one American businessman with not relation to the school was arrested because someone tipped there's one gringo living in a nearby building who was "unusually" nice to kids.

After Jeffery Epstein, Jimmy Savile, the Franklin Coverup and the Finders, it’s absolutely baffling how naïve and ignorant you have to be to take what the media says at face value on the subject. There was a literal independent investigation into the property of the McMartin school in which they dug up the tunnels in the exact locations the children said it would be, including many other corroborating pieces of evidence all painting an extremely disturbing picture. Look into Ted Gunderson.

@@CAAvgvstvs Wow now I'm curious. So are you saying the whole judicial system failed in this case and they got away with it? I mean, for what I read around the net the consensus are that they were wrongly accused (in contrast to the people you mentioned, Epstein and the rest, that are overwhelmingly believed to be guilty.) Are you implying all these people, not just the masse but very much established news people, are "naïve and ignorant?" I don't know since I never lived in the US I can only assume from what I see through the filter of the media so your implying sounds more conspiracy theory. But anyway I'm all ears. Maybe you can present some convincing evidences? Now the similar case that happened in my country I know pretty well because it happened in my city and nowadays is a subject in universities and law institutions as the classic case study of false accusation and mob mentality. By the way the American guy gave a lengthy interview years later in a talk show (a very mild-mannered guy who to me reminded me of car racer Bobby Rahal) and it was pretty hilarious: the police seized "crucial evidences" Playboy magazines and photos of him posing with his friends' kids and even one of those joke shavers molded in female body. But the sad part is according to him he had to abandon his business as a industrial machinery salesman because wherever he went, even Africa, his business rivals would tip the potential clients with copies of newspapers and magazines about the case. And no matter how much he presented documents of his acquittal people would go "yeah maybe you were innocent of this one but you did get charged so maybe you had a bad reputation in the first place so..."

Perhaps she got licensed in the future, but, at the time, she claimed to be a "psychotherapist" despite not having any professional certification of such whatsoever, funny enough. Granted, w/ the 'right person', licensure may not necessarily "mean much", if they're well-trained, bright and knowledgeable enough in their field, but MacFarlane, at the time, it would seem, was, in all likelihood, *such* an amateur that "practicing psychotherapy" that early in her career *while* not having the slightest certification would seem kinda dangerous, perhaps?
Also.. why did she eschew or not get any licenses for it?? Did she think she was "above" it, or something? ...though how she became CII director while having no certifications whatsoever is a bit of mystery, ngl. hmmm
