  • External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, addressed an event on 3 June. While speaking on the US-led axis and China-led axis as another potential axis in the world, he said, 'This is the construct you are trying to impose on India. Don't think it is necessary for India to join any axis. India entitled to make its own choices which will be a balance of its values and interests'

Yeah, India is not sitting on the fence, they are squarely in the US/EU/Israel camp despite their failure to cheerlead for Ukraine. Anyone who does not understand this is not paying CLOSE attention. Buying oil from Russia is one thing, aligning with China and Russia against the US is an entirely a different matter. India believes that by helping the US bring down China, it will boost its own fortunes. But this is a wrongheaded view - the US will USE India in a divide and conquer scheme to stay on top of BOTH countries. The US knows a united Asia means they no longer will lead the world, so they are using India, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan to divide Asia to support US hegemony. However, the people of Asia don't want to be divided. The Chinese love Japanese food and traveling to Japan, love Korean drama and music, and yoga from India. Culturally, there is substantial movement toward Asian unity. Asians see themselves as part of a Greater Asia, which is scaring the bejesus out of the United States. it is only at the government level that a divided Asia seems possible.

India is an independent country & has its own views and will do what their people need & that does not mean siding with anyone.
With great diplomacy with Saudi Arabia Biden was very successful 😂 in adding more misery to the ongoing energy crisis & the west wants India to join them to make things more worse here!

I am a Chinese living in America, and I have to say that Jaishankar is a glittering example of what a diplomat should act and sound like. Our Western politicians and media are liars who don't care how often they are wrong. I have always believed that there is no shortage of smart and talented people from India, and if enough of them make it into leadership positions, India will become a superpower. It's time for the West to learn something from India and stop being so arrogant.

What India and China have to offer the world is DEEP wisdom built over thousands of years .. There were libraries in Nalanda that were many kilometers long and had students from both INDIA and CHINA -- It was burned to the ground by Islamic invaders in 12th century who had no understanding of what they were destroying.
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nalanda
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nalanda#Destruction_under_Bakhtiyar_Khalji_(c._1200_CE)
This was BEFORE Oxford and Cambridge had a single brick to their name. Well before the west conquered and looted both countries.
India and China need to, TOGETHER, define their own destinies. We will be example to the world when we put our mutual differences aside. The small wars we fought will be forgotten.

Thanks ! As per Wiki, China's population is 1412.6 million, whears India's 1410.3 million & rapidly growing compared to China. India will displace China (where population remains stagnant) by the year-end as the most populous(No.1) country . Initially China was given a permanent seat at the UN security council, because of its largest population. Now will the same criterion be applied & India given a (permanent) seat in the UN security council? Indian presence (& effectively non-partisan) there, will stabilize global politics.
There are some misconceptions among Western countries about population growth. India's growth isn't that big compared to many countries (in Africa & Latin America). China has enforced population control by brutal, undemocratic methods(one child norm); but now is getting the lower end of it. China isn't finding sufficient young people to man her humongous industries, supplying to the whole world. She has more old people to be taken care off (median age 39 years), while India has "youth bulge" (median age 29 years) to worry about, to put them in jobs. Had the situation in India been like in China with large scale industrilisation (production) things would've been manageable. Even in India, the South has a stagnating population as prosperity has ushered in, an attitude of having 2 children (it is on par with Eastern Europe) while in North, things are still unmanageable. Population growth tapers down as prosperity rises, making young couples plan the cost of rising a child for good life. After reaching a peak, India (as a whole) might get into that bracket of low fertility.
An issue irritating me is, some guys keep flaunting statistics & figures relevant some 7 years ago, but are no more valid.

India wants be in the 5, because her policies have been stymied by one or the other member, while one member (USSR, now Russia) considstently vetoed, for India. But this makes India dependant on one member (of the 5) & Indian foreign policy is tied to this apron strings, with no freedom to pursue policies.
As India was once (but turned down) deserves to be in the top 5 (or 5+). India is going to be the No.1 most populous nation in the world displacing PRC, may be by the year-end. With 17.6% of humanity wouldn't it be justifiable (to get a permanent seat in UN SC)?

India's population isn't rapidly growing. But compared to PRC where it has stagnated (almost no growth) it is growing. In comparison, Indian population at 1410.3 million. PRC has a population 1412.6 million & the gap is 2.3 million (these are estimates as per Wiki originating from World Bank or IMF). To add to the confusion India skipped (for the first time) census in 2021.
In any case, by this year end (or before) India will reach an unassailable position, No.1 in population.

They lack empathy, he could have first included, paid homage, to the suffering of ukrainian civilians before addressing world strife in this resultant conflict!!! In Russia they suffer, sugar price has gone up, no iphone, Mcdonalds are common complaints by russian people....how does that compare to Ukrainian lives turned upside down, women, grannies, girls raped, then executed, no homes, electricity, water!!! By same degree of comparison, if world is lacking food, oil or prices have shot up, it simply does not compare to the homeless kid orphans, missing body parts whose parents were brutally executed before their eyes!!! Mr Jai Shankar, Modi gov and almost all Indians, you forgot that Mahabharatha never taught self preservation at the expense of SELFLESSNESS!!!!

This is ridiculous because unlike a small country like Romania which really does need a big country to protect it, India is a one of the great powers of the world (and only rising), it doesnt need to hide behind the skirts of anyone!! India is one of the few nations that can forge its own way in the world and actually act in its OWN best interests... what is this interviewer implying anyway, that people in India can't take cheap oil/resources from Russia to increase its own peoples living standards because she thinks India needs to suffer for the silly political games the West is engaged in with Russia? Good on India for making its own decisions in its own interests 👍 one of the few countries that can ignore the demands of these control freaks! As an American, I wholeheartedly applaud Jaishankar's wisdom, balance, grace, and erudite honesty. What a gem of a minister he is for India! I only wish that our own "diplomats" at the State Department (master liars Blinken, Nuland, Sullivan) would have 1/10 of Jaishankar's honesty, grace, humility, and sophistication.
This interview was obviously staged to put pressure on India to fall in line with the West, and it's refreshing to hear Jaishankar's well informed, balanced, and extremely gracious rebuttals to all the loaded questions from this stooge of an interviewer. It's also interesting to see that the tiny and insignificant country of Latvia has become an extremely loyal lapdog of the US in Europe, whose government suddenly became so emboldened as to diplomatically recognize Taiwan and break off diplomatic ties with Beijing (while ignoring the grave political & economic consequences of doing so). The loaded question from the Latvian "freelance" journalist was just another premeditated jab at India, which of course conveniently ignores all the crimes and atrocities carried out by the Ukrainian Nazis against their own Russian-speaking citizens in eastern Ukraine, the fact that the Ukrainian military used their own Ukrainian civilians as human shields in battle (as reported by Amnesty International and by Ukrainian villagers on social media who had just escaped such kidnapping by their own military), and the fact that Zelensky and his cabinet members embezzled billions of dollars of aid provided by the West. Janshaikar's dignified and gracious rebuttal was absolutely fantastic! I think (and hope) that India and China will eventually sort out their issues on their own, and become counterweights of their own on the global stage.
"Ukraine on Fire" is a well researched documentary by the Oscar-winning director Oliver Stone, who himself was in the US military that fought in Vietnam. Everyone should watch the film to learn about the whole story of the Ukrainian crisis.

India should feel proud to have as Foreign Affairs Minister someone like him and ther government he's part of, they are the most popular in the world.
