    About:
William Roger Reaves is an American pilot who was one of the most prolific drug smugglers in history. He worked for Pablo Escobar and the Medellín Cartel. Reaves employed Barry Seal as a pilot in many of his drug-smuggling operations. In his memoir, Smuggler (2016), Reaves claims that Seal paid millions in bribes to the Clintons when Bill Clinton was governor of Arkansas in order to land planes carrying cocaine at Mena, Arkansas.

Powerful quote “a bird doesn’t have the child before it prepares a nest.” Very true. There are many with no guidance or role model to guide them for this. Christ prepares a home before we enter heaven, he prepared himself for the cross before we may have penance, he prepared a plan before the world was made. We need to teach responsibility and consequences.

Studying, Working out and figuring out who I was, and where I wanted to go. I refused to allow the state to take this time from me, and instead used it to work on myself.

Great podcast. The two men asking Roger questions was spot on as I am trying to understand why he would do it. Roger says prisoners should learn a trade, BUT Roger had different trades. Pilot, fireman, sold antiques, and etc. All those trades didn't keep Roger from smuggling cocaine, and returning to prison numerous times. Why? It didn't keep him from going back. Roger had a lot of different trades that other prisoners don't have, but it didn't work with Roger, now did it? I noticed the two men were trying to understand the same thing that I was trying to understand. Roger acts like smuggling cocaine is okay, and making millions is what mattered to him. The LOVE of money is the root of all evil. Roger talks like he is a nice christian family man, thinks he is a great parent, and never taking responsibility that he smuggled drugs that could hurt families, parents, or other children that destroys others lives. The story of the lion eating the baby didn't seem to phase Roger. To me it is strange, and something is way off about him. I do hope he has changed his life around, and helps others understand it's not ok to do that kind of work no matter how good the money is for doing it. Yes his story is facinating, but it was wrong what he did, and he is asked 3 times, but he skirted around it. I do hope Roger has changed his ways, and I do wish him well.

He really is a great story teller. Wish I had that ability, I could’ve listened to him for another 2 or 3 hours more.

He's on lex friedmans podcast. I encourage everyone to listen. His wife joins at the end and is just as described 💚 & if you enjoy and appreciate people like Roger you would love lex. Very unique person. A genius MIT scientist that believes in love and compassion above all else.

Wow what a story. I never know Barry Seal worked for somebody. When I’ve herd Barry’s story it was always told as it he was a lone operator.

Fantastic interview on both sides of the table. Mr. Reaves is an incredibly interesting, charismatic man with a fascinating history. He is a wonderful story teller. I thoroughly enjoyed this. That being said, I wish that while people are painting him as a kind, respectable folk hero, they never forget exactly what his legacy has contributed to history. Everyone should be keenly aware of the fact that if it was not him transporting drugs, it certainly would have been someone else so either way, the ripple effect, the destruction and loss caused to countless lives and countless families through the drug trade and all associated drug related incidence, he was in fact a solid, contributing link in that chain. He has quoted infidelity as being a cardinal sin and spoke as if it was one of the worst things a person could do in life. Infidelity in his marriage certainly would have caused pain to his family but how would that compare to the pain he personally helped contribute to by bringing hundreds of tons of coke into America which has destroyed millions and millions of lives in a wide variety of ways. 82 year old Mr. Reaves seems like a great guy but 50 years ago, he was not conducting his life in a way that would be considered great by any stretch of the imagination. Fascinating guy, fascinating life, fascinating story teller but try to keep admiration and respect in context. His past activities contributed to the destruction of countless lives. Personally, at this point in his life, I wish him peace and the very best.
