  • A rare opportunity to hear internationally award-winning dramatist Tom Stoppard in conversation with prize-winning playwright and director, Patrick Marber.
Tom Stoppard’s epic yet intimate new play ‘Leopoldstadt’, directed by Patrick Marber, traces the trajectory of the Jewish community of Vienna; from crowded tenements, to the centre of artistic and intellectual life, to annihilation.
They discuss the themes of the play - which has deep personal resonances for both of them - its production, and its contemporary relevance.
#CharlestonFestivalatHome, 15-25 May is a series of 10 free events bringing artists, writers, thinkers and changemakers together online to explore art, literature and society, just as the Bloomsbury group did around the Charleston dining room table 100 years ago. Explore the full programme: www.charleston.org.uk/festiva...
Wherever you are, pour yourself a glass of something and join us at 7pm (BST) for a dose of Charleston Festival magic
As a charity that receives no public funding, the cancellation of Charleston Festival and our current closure is financially devastating for Charleston. As you enjoy this event, please consider making a donation to Charleston’s Emergency Appeal: www.charleston.org.uk/charles...

Few contemporary dramatists are as fecund and versatile as Tom. I heard, more than once, his play 'Albert's Bridge' on the BBC half a century ago, and fell in love with him. Since then I have never missed a play or talk by him.
His slow, deliberate, hesitant but always lucid, speech is often disarmingly marked by occasional, smoky, vocal fry. Patrick's unforced, off-the -cuff questions effortlessly prise out the guarded secrets of the creative process. A faint whiff of carbon, tobacco, ink, and incense permeates his study. Silence please...the Muses are in attendance.

I miss the flapping marquee, smell of grass and the excited audience - but still wonderful, thank you. Michael Birt
