I'm the one who won the grand prize Albo from you guys back in December!
Thank you again, I truly adore this plant. I also received it on the day my grandfather passed (also his birthday) so it makes me think of him and I've named it "Charles."
I repotted it, but the root ball was incredibly compacted. I was afraid to tease the roots up and potentially break some at the time, but would you recommend going for it anyway if it's a rootbound monstera who's original medium is almost sponge-like???
He's doing really well, the new leaf he came with has hardened off and he's put out LOADS of new aerial roots near the top. So I'm likely overreacting. I just worry that the rootball doesn't hold moisture like it should and that the original medium could be hydrophobic. Not sure how much having fresh medium around it makes up for that. Since it's also in contact with the roots though.
I'd love your opinion since you know way more than me.
    Thanks, Tanner!

Wow- congratulations! I’m happy to hear your plant is doing well. I recommend completely submerging the soil in water and leaving it for hours until it’s fully saturated. The compacted substrate will easily come off once hydrated. Then you’re free to up pot. It’s a good idea to add a support at this time as well!

I did add a big thiccly moss pole and it’s already rooted into it nicely 😁 Thank you again so much for the help and the gorgeous Albo. My pride and joy!

Any man re-poting a plant is like a man loading the dishwasher or holding a baby... attractive for what it says about who he is.

Tanner, have you ever tried to just plant an aerial root cutting on its own? If so, did you have any luck with getting a whole new plant from the cutting? Sorry for all the questions.

Not related but I have marble pothos cuttings in a 4” pot with drainage, I started with 12 rooted cuttings I’m down to 5. The stems are melting, I used spaghnum moss and miracle grow potting mix. Not over watering. Why am I losing so many? It’s like every day another cutting has melted and is gooey 😢
