This is exactly what went down in the studio when we recorded Into the Woods of Lothlorien: Dave Bainbridge took my melody and created 4 or 5 fully improvised compositions - 2 of which ended up on my Return to Arda Album.

ABOUT this TRACK
In Tolkien’s legendarium, the woods of Lothlorien were the realm of Galadriel, the immortal Queen elf. Rumours were that when people went in to those woods they never returned. Many avoided the woods out of fear. However, if they had been brave enough to venture outside their comfort zone, they would have learned that it was not death that awaited them, it was wonder and a desire to never leave.
I wrote this otherworldly melody on piano and I thought that to really capture the spontaneous magic feeling you get when you enter the magical woods, I needed to get Dave Bainbridge to use the melody to inspire an improvised piano composition. He did 4 takes, all of them were wonderful, this was take 4. I find it astonishing that he can improvise music like this!
