McKinley is growing up right before our eyes. Seems like not so long ago he was just a teenager getting to sit in with the J.D. McPherson band and his Dad Jason Smay. Now look at them together….Jason must be so proud of his son!
Sometimes I see a little bit of Steve Ray in McKinleys style in other clips and then a little bit of Jimmy Vaughan in this one. But just a bit as he is definitely is his own man when playing and performing. Great he's keeping this style of music alive in todays plastic fantastic world.
Stripped down blues with a purpose. Intelligently executed regarding what is left out. I can see that bass players & harp players want to jam all over this, but that would likely ruin it. McKinley is *intentionally* leaving space, recording live (getting room sound), not overplaying, solo is short & sweet, no pedals, pure tone. Great vocals too! Class act👏👏👏

Not too often you hear a guitarist playing this style of music actually pay attention to getting the vocal style and sound right. Aces 👍🏻
