Hey, I love your video and your excitement to provide nature with a comfortable home in your yard. You've done fantastic with your garden transformation and are so open to learning new things and accepting what you knew was wrong. I have a suggestion to transforming your white sage to the red variety. You could hand pollinate the red variety with your white variety. When the seeds fall to the ground some should grow to produce pink flowers. If you pollinate them with the red variety again, the next generation should produce some that will have red flowers. 😁 Happy Florida gardening.

My husband and I have been ripping up all of the grass in our front yard to replace with a native heavy flower garden in South Florida! I bought 2 milkweed plants this spring and became hooked on butterfly gardening. I am so grateful for your videos because I have a bunch of space to fill, and I am currently trying to sew a bunch of native flower seeds. (with varying success haha) I have a small mango tree in the front yard and was wondering if there are any cool shade tolerant flower/tropical plants I should consider for that space.

We were blessed for a couple of years to have Good Roots Nursery in Estero. They were owned by Sandhill Natives of Arcadia. The nursery was sold to a developer and now we need to travel to find a new natives nursery. Good Roots had a really good variety of plants, we learned a lot and as I said, we were really blessed to have had them. We are on 6 acres and found that we had many of the varieties growing wild on our property, so we were able to take cuttings and transplant some. We found that most natives do NOT like to be transplanted. We have beauty berry that is 4'x4' right now and loaded with berries. Some easy to grow hedge plants are Clusia (pitch apple), grow it from breaking off a leaf or take a cutting. I usually put 4 cuttings in a pot to create a large plant for transplanting into my hedge row. they like lots of drinks during the week and they can get a height of 30ft. so if you want to have a totally walled off yard, they grow a lot faster than Cocoplum.

Hello, l heard you mention somebody from the Pinellas chapter of The Florida Native Plant Society, of which l'm a member. l live at a 26 acre condo complex (The Enclave 9100 9th St N) and have total control of the landscaping and have convinced the board to go completely native. My wife, who is now a board member, and l get around a $2,500 budget every year for plants. We have about a 4 acre wooded section in the middle that i've been busy clearing of invasives and restoring to native. lf you're in the area, you should stop by and let me show you around. l'm sure l could show you a tip or two and could probably send you home with a native seedling or two if you want. And lf your not a Florida Native Plant Society member, you should think about joining. You'll have access to really good info. l raise monarchs, LOVE that you planted milkweed!

When you pull the plant out of the pot, if you see all the roots, then the plant is root bound and will generally not spread its roots which isn’t healthy. So take your fingers and untangle the roots. If you don’t see roots, don’t worry about it

    Two comments...
    - Wear gloves? Are you kidding me? How are you going to feel the soil and the tender roots of the seedlings you are planning? Wearing gloves in the garden is like putting on a wet suit to hug your kids!
    - I wish I only had a 10x4 plot... I have 5 acres and I'm getting lost! Yes, I planted Beautyberries, native Lantana, false Rosemary, Pawpaw... And I have birds and butterflies here and there... Squirrels galore... But I don't see having accomplished anything! Yes, I have an apple/pear/peach/plum orchard on one corner, citrus trees kind of hiding somewhere where they are hopefully protected from the freezes I get, mulberries and figs here and there (and about 2 acres of woodland for the enjoyment of the goats)... But I don't have a vision on how take it to the next level :( ... So be glad you have a little plot you can focus on!
... and looking forward to your next videos!

Beautyberry is great for edible beautyberry jam, great food for a bunch of birds, natural mosquito repellant, food for our pollinators with the flowers... I love that your beautyberry is a girl! Are there birds and pollinators in the yard? They may be attracted to something else more OR something is keeping them away... predator, pesticides... hard to say.
