      What part of FL are you in? And do you do consulting?

      Me again. I’m in Orlando and would love to hire someone as a consultant. Do you do that?
      Also - yes - I’d watch a two day video 😉

    I watched one of your videos, where you asked what to do with papaya fruit, Well it is a fruit when ripe, but can be used as a vegetable when green. You can slice it and fry it as potato chips, you can broil it with cheese like au-gratin potatoes, make squash casserole, boil and mash, add butter and chives and you have mashed potatoes. ETC

    Please do an episode on Florida's native Ericaceae species. Lyonias are wonderful shrubs. 😁 I see them growing all over on vacant lots, but never see them planted in landscapes, and rarely available from nurseries. Tar flower is another one I never see re-planted in developed areas even though it grew naturally in the area before it got cleared. 😢

      Welcome to the Native Plants section of Gardening 😉 I am all about not coaxing... I just don’t have time. Can you relate? 😅 Also, if an “easy” Plant is struggling, it may say more about your soil than you! Wishing you a green thumb!

    I absolutely LOVE your videos and you’ve helped me make sense of my garden.
    Now, did I understand you correctly? Are you not doing any more videos? If that’s true then I’m upset. I love how you teach.
    Please reconsider.
    If you hold classes I’d like to know so if I live close by I can attend.
    Wishing you a lovely Christmas and new year and all the very best to you.

    • @WildFloridian
      @WildFloridian  3 года назад +1

      Thank you Sandra 😄 My first choice for grass replacement if you want the general lawn look, takes traffic and works in semi-shade to full sun... this is one that neighbors won't feel like is out of the normal unless they get close... and that would be Frog Fruit. You can host butterflies... mow once a season to once a month. Keep it at least 3 inches tall. Now if you aren't going to be walking on it and want some other fun choices... Twin flower, dune sunflower, sunshine mimosa, blue eyed grass, creeping sage... and the list goes on 😄 I'm personally going doing some experiments replacing a section with frog fruit but mix in some blue eyed grass.

    You talk about invasive I moved into my home over 10 years ago. I had a beautiful front garden two trees on either side of the steps leading up to the door. Hurricane came and kind of destroyed those, but they still lived. Recently I noticed it was changing the environment. The people that originally lived here I put in abetting so that it had a very short root system. But still had beautiful ferns and bird of paradise mother of tongue, so I put in a lot of potted plants and it worked until. I noticed one day sitting on the steps that there was a plant a vine wrapped around one of my trees. no, I pulled it off, I had noticed that there had been some trying to creep up my house. I didn’t think much of it at that time. So I started checking the garden. They were everywhere they had invaded my garden. Turned out it was a philodendron not only was it not a Florida native it was a house plant and it had killed everything or almost everything you should’ve seen the pile. I had ripped out of my front garden and it’s now ruined. I IE why I’m looking at this video. I have never heard of anything. I’ve been gardening for my entire life. It ate pot plants trees it didn’t care. It was like a living monster. I saved one as a reminder and I put it in a pot. So half of my front garden, which isn’t very big will have topsoil native plants and then I will put. I forget what you call it but then some thing on top mulch on top of it. We’re also putting in toad hotels. The weirdest one as I had a turtle with succulents in it, and after I pulled everything out, I couldn’t find my turtle I looked, and I looked, couldn’t find it. I knew where it was but it wasn’t there. That’s when I realized there was a tree that grew out of that. An entire tree roots on all side of this 2 foot ceramic turtle. I have had the strangest experience with this garden. When I do my replacement I plan on doing a video on it. Thanks for your knowledge I greatly appreciate it.

    I want to create a wildlife sanctuary on my land with native plants. I do feel some guilt about uprooting any invasive/exotic plants that were planted before by previous owners because it's not the plants fault it was planted in the wrong environment. But it's better for the native ecosystem to get rid of the plants that never evolved there, right?

    • @WildFloridian
      @WildFloridian  3 года назад +2

      I totally understand the feeling! While native plants are best for our wildlife, taking away their habitat and food sources is not good for them. Exotic and invasive plants may be providing some benefit to wildlife... so go slow when removing. I found that starting with a small space was best. Let the wildlife come in and flourish... and then I was hooked! I continue to pick away, taking it bit by bit. Every native plants makes a difference! So start small and be kind to yourself 😄

      So frustrating! I've seen in Lowe's and Home Depot milkweed that says Butterfly Weed... but if you look at the scientific name... it is Tropical Milkweed. Makes me mad! Because people are trying to avoid Tropical Milkweed and I feel like this is purposely deceptive.

    Check first before you put in Fruit Trees... Because they attract Fruit Rats, many places, like barrier islands, forbid them.

    14 minutes of watching a woman talk and maybe 30 seconds of pictures of the flower an no pictures of the whole plant. A waste of time.
