  • Despite qualifying for UGC-NET and holding a PhD, candidates eligible for the assistant professor post struggle to make a living. In the absence of government jobs, these candidates turn to private colleges for a meager salary. "In many colleges in my city, salaries ranging between Rs 8,000 and Rs 12,000 are being paid to assistant professors," says a PhD holder.

UGC also destroying the quality of education in colleges, No proper seminar only political drama nowadays.. No facility for students. Merging colleges into university without proper campus, like in chhatarpur, MP MCBU university, Ruined of quality of humanities in state University, with improper teaching & syallabus. It is happening because No politician have the idea to frame higher education, in fact they are promotion education mafiya especially in MP, Bihar, UP, CG
For example B. Ed nowadays nis joke, all top mafia running B. Ed college & destryong the education structire in presence of administration. These education mafia & corroupt politician are dangerous to Nation, we need to think about it.
Government priority is NOT research & development, all are working for just quantity
Bureaucrats are busy in eating the budget
Nowadays condition is that phd can be available by paying certain amount of money

One year was still okay but the 2 yrs long duration is too much. God knows why is it even compulsory when it serves no purpose in enhancing a particular subject's knowledge?

I had worked as an Assistant Professor in an Engineering college for 6 years, The situation is equally worse, private colleges are running mafias, government is giving them free NBA and NAAC accreditation for collges with zero infrastructure in exchange of huge amount money also increasing the student faculty ratio from 1:15 to 1:20, completely forcing faculties to work with lesser salaries, the education system in india is as much worse for the teachers as it is for students.

A very similar story. Topped university and cleared NET by that time. Wrote and cleared Government College Assistant professor Recruitment exam in Karnataka. The process started in 2021. It's 2024, the whole recruitment process is completed but order copies are not yet issued. Demand meets and Strikes fall deaf along with the lack of intent from the government. Concerned Minister and officials have their egos to be satisfied. As aspirants cannot join anywhere else as the remaining process can hardly take 15 days. Think the status of governance machinery and even education system if it takes four years to complete one appointment process.

This is soooo true.. Came to this profession with full of life and hopes, been doing this for 4 years, but this decision to become a teacher is slowly turning out to be my greatest regret.. Really trying so hard to not to give up..
Teaching became like 10-20%.. Maximum of self financing teachers like me are literally burried in paper works, data creation and other list of works that goes on and on.. I understand that teaching is a dynamic job but SF institutions are very demanding, working hours, after getting home, holidays, every single day...
We are ready to work, but why r we not getting paid enough.. We r made to work even beyond the working hours, but.. Stilllll underpaid..

    The points which were missed:
    1. Every private colleges demand the original degree certificates of the candidates joining as Assistant Professor. With that they blackmail us.
    2. Private colleges either withhold our original certificates or our experience certificates (service certificates).
    3. I quitted my job as professor when the management asked us to dance in schools to bring admissions. It's either we do dance programme or give notices (advertisement papers) in bus stand and at the entrances of schools.
    4. With a meager 12k salary, they expect us to publish articles in Scopus and Web of science.
    5. My professors used to ask us about the salary of swiggy and zomato delivery boys, at that time we couldn't understand the meaning behind it. Now after becoming one, i realise why.

During recent DU recruitment , either you should have RSS backing, or by your PhD guide or pay around ₹40 lakhs. I am seeing people being recruited from UP’s insignificant universities to colleges like SRCC. They are getting numb when students ask questions. But there is one good thing is also that ad-hoc teachers, who were constantly in university are also being recruited (adjusted) if they are pursuing PhD from DU and their guide is not against RSS openly.

    4. As the video suggest. Assistant prof on contractual basis are paid so low that it's a shame to call it a salary.. Atleast 50K Should be a mandate to save the dignity of the post... But alas! Theres so much competition that if contractual asst prof's salary goes around 50K people will start bribing and departments will be highly corrupt

it's easy for you people working for corporate, to say this. Even to work in a private oragnization, the government should make policies. your IT company is probably blooming, because the govt allows them to function with restrictions. the govt only values powers and corporate their money, and values like education and research are a joke in this country. govt tells a graduate to open samosa shops, to become influencers or become an entrepreuner. why the hell we need govt for? a media influencer receives award from the pm, but not a scientist. the country is not for creative people who can actually make an impact. it is for people in IT who "serve" their masters. most ITs in india are service oriented, not product oriented.

Unfortunately my company doesn't come under Indian policies, I can't comment on the restrictions part. When it comes to research, I agree with you, it is indeed jocular because of personal experience likewise with education and educators both are not up to the mark. Aap corporate job lene ki koshish karo ya khudka business karo - wahan zyada scope hai.

Even if they hire NET qualifiers they pay salary equivalent to primary school teachers or even less. If you still want to work thinking that you can do PhD from the same university where you are hired after qualifying NET then they ask you to fill a bond that after PhD you will have to teach in the same college or university for certain time period. It's like a loop .... pathetic loop
