Wedge Antilles might be a minor character in the movies but in the Expanded Universe he is a pivotal character and X-wing pilot; he is a hero in the Yuzaan Vong War and other books. It’s a shame Disney did not use the EU material.
Wedge Antilles, along with Keyan Farlander, were survivors alongside Luke Skywalker at the Battle of Yavin. Antilles would later become a General in the New Republic, and Farlander a Jedi Knight taught by Skywalker at his Praxeum on Yavin 4.
So thanks to this uncle one nephew became an real life pilot in R.A.F and the 2nd became a space war pilot and jedi on the silverscreen . Thanks to very inspiring uncle Dennis 🤩👍
Denis Lawson / Wedge is Ewan's nephew?? Badass!! Wedge is Rogue 2 and eventually becomes Rogue Leader when Luke leaves Rogue Squadron to become a Jedi. The books and comics have him as the main character. So glad he came back for Episode 9.. even though the sequels do not exist.
Both actors brought so much more for StarWars & Ewan being Kenobi truly did such an extraordinary job & is my favorite actor & not just in Star Wars; he was awesome in "The Island" with Steve Buschemi & it was just alot of fun over the years seeing Ewan make Obi-Wan Kenobi come to life
Wedge is probably one of the best pilots in the Rebellion alongside Luke. He was at every major battle in every original trilogy movie, he even made a cameo in Rise of skywalker and had some origin story episodes in Rebels. He had a pretty big glow up from background character.
Well he may have had a “minor” role in this episode but he’s the only pilot to have been part of the successful attack on both Death Stars. I’m just very disappointed he didn’t have a larger role in the sequel trilogy.
Denis is still a busy actor and wasn't free to do those films. He was asked to do five days for ep 9, but could only manage 1, as he was touring in a play at the time.
So, does that make wedge a jedi if he is related to obi wan? That means it was wedge that blew the death star and guided the torpedo in with the force this changes everything.
I saw "The Gift" (2000) because my Uncle was in the film. He's the bass player for the band playing in a bar scene. The band was called "The Souvenirs" back then.
I like fun trivial facts like this. I worked with David Prowse's grandson Travis. David's family is a bunch of GM/ Chevy gearheads. David's son drives a CTS-V that puts Porsche GT2s to shame. It's ridiculous
Ewan and family might have been a bit puzzled when Denis came on screen. Denis's lines were dubbed, as they wanted an American accent. (and to hide the fact that Wedge is played by another actor in the briefing room scene) The The clip shown here is the undubbed version with Denis's own voice, but he's speaking with a drama school English accent, not his natural Scottish accent.
@@aguywholovesstarwars Unfortunately not, it was poring rain and I was in a rush to catch the bus. I only noticed him cause I recognised his voice, which was kind of an americanised scottish accent. At first I didn't realise cause he didn't have the beard but it was definitely him.
Wedge doesnt get enough credit, or enough screen time. In Legends he is a bad ass who takes over Rogue Squadron after Luke goes on to train new Jedi. Missed opportunity to give a good actor some deserved screen time.
His uncle was wedge? Yooooo... If anybody ever said wedge the X-Wing pilot everybody knows who you're talking. It's a minor part but he has a name and he is addressed by his name by Luke Skywalker. That's a big deal.
One thing that perplexes me, in this scene, Wedge has a perfect, well spoken, English aristocratic voice, but in the film Star Wars 4...A New Hope... his voice is very American, why did they overdub his voice, was he too posh for them.?
Wedge is no minor character!
The dude is a freaking legend in Legends!
True but he’s a minor character in the movies
Awesome! I never knew Ewan McGregor was related to Wedge!!!!!
The more you know! There is so many cool things like this when it comes to Star Wars!
He's also related to Hera Syndulla because he's married to her actress
@@Whitesnake273his daughter also tries to sell him spice in Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Same here
Wow wedge is legit an underrated hero. Only pilot to survive all three films. That’s cool.
Yeah he’s even in episode 9
@@aguywholovesstarwars never heard of that one
Theres an episond 9? 😒
What episode nine?
@@aguywholovesstarwarslet the Star Wars fans pretend the sequel trilogy never existed.Don't make them upset.
Ewan McGregor’s brother was a fighter pilot for the RAF and his call sign was Obi-Two.
Nice. So Obi-Wan/Red Two (Wedge). So he took from both characters from his family.
Wedge was one of my favorites!
Very small role but also one of the most memorable characters in all of Star Wars
Love wedge antilles
Wedge Antilles might be a minor character in the movies but in the Expanded Universe he is a pivotal character and X-wing pilot; he is a hero in the Yuzaan Vong War and other books. It’s a shame Disney did not use the EU material.
They’ve been using things that have originated from Legends though.
What do you mean they haven’t used any Legends material?
Maybe we could see more of wedge in the Mando-Verse era
*LOL - "Legends"? What kind of Star Wars fan considers that term to be legit? All the true Star Wars fans left Disney-"star wars" years ago.*
@@Percival-kl9yyGatekeeping, you love to ser it.
Wedge is the shit. Was always in support of Luke And random moments when Luke really needed desperate help
Wedge Antilles, along with Keyan Farlander, were survivors alongside Luke Skywalker at the Battle of Yavin. Antilles would later become a General in the New Republic, and Farlander a Jedi Knight taught by Skywalker at his Praxeum on Yavin 4.
IOW, all the surviving pilots were arguably Force sensitives…..
Can you image being a kid in the 70s/80s and having an uncle that was in Star Wars?! That's some kudos right there.
How did i not know this. Wedge and Biggs, were major characters
They were more important than people will ever know!
Wedge Antilles is the most underrated hero of the rebel alliance.
Wedge has always been a legend
That’s insane ewan is so lucky and blessed
So thanks to this uncle one nephew became an real life pilot in R.A.F and the 2nd became a space war pilot and jedi on the silverscreen .
Thanks to very inspiring uncle Dennis 🤩👍
Very true!
Wedge the unsung hero (my favorite SW character). Cool that Ewan's uncle.
Other way round mate. Lawson is Mcgregor’s uncle
Because of his Uncle he will always have the high ground 😂
I'm glad he's his uncle then cause they couldn't have picked a better person to play Obi Wan, Ewan is OBI WAN!
Could not agree more! Ewan will always be Obi- Wan

"cut the chatter Red-2" lol
Wedge Antilles was a massive role! Maybe not at the time but it's become a cult hero character!
WEDGE IS AWESOME
Wedge is an important character.

Wedge?! From Final Fantasy 7?! 🤪 (always loved that shout out they did)
Biggs and Wedge are in all Final Fantasys since FFVI!
Wedge great Character expanded universe did him good

Go see Hostiles On the Hill BLR. "You aaaare like cinnamon!"
Wow what a beautiful story. It's the first movie I remember watching
If ObiWon met young wedge Antilles in his tv show it would’ve been awesome
So, does that make wedge a jedi if he is related to obi wan? That means it was wedge that blew the death star and guided the torpedo in with the force this changes everything.
I think so 😂
Wedge is so cool and awesome, he doesn't need the Force.
It's the actors who are related, not the characters.
@@GFSTaylor so are you saying Obi Wan is played by an actor?
Oh my gosh...I never knew that Dennis Lawson is his Uncle...how cool is that??!!
This makes a circular six degrees of separation: Wedge-Luke - Anakin/Darth - Obi-Wan Kenobi - Ewan McGregor - his uncle - Wedge
😂😂😂true
It may be a small role for Denis but an impactful one for SW universe. HELL!! THAT'S WEDGE ANTILLES!!!
WOAAAAH. I never knew that!
It’s a cool little Easter egg!
Thank you Wej you gave us one of our favorite characters ever I Star wars OBI WON KINOBI
Fun fact: Biggs and Wedge's names from Star Wars IV are recurring characters of the Final Fantasy universe. You can see it frequently on the franchise
This isn't a slice of Star Wars trivia...
It's a WEDGE!
Ewan made an iconic obi wan, and continues to do so. His presence I think is perfect for the role which I bet the casting directors thought
Yes, I just happen to know that fact, thank you for post it.
I rescued his uncle in Rogue Squadron many times wedge that is
Ewan better have a nephew who's gonna play a part in Star Wars. Make it a family tradition, from uncle to uncle, nephew to nephew🗿
Wedge Freaking Antilles is related to Ewen?! Bro, star wars legends live in that family!
oh yeah! It's so cool!
It is so weird seeing Obi Wan without the robes lol.
I saw "The Gift" (2000) because my Uncle was in the film. He's the bass player for the band playing in a bar scene. The band was called "The Souvenirs" back then.
That’s awesome! So are you going to be in the gift 2? 😂
Mainly. Not only. He said he went “mainly” that doesn’t mean that was the only reason. Just wanted to point that out.

God I love his hair
uncle Dennis!!!!!......I have a uncle Brian
Lol uncle Dennis told him not to do it.
Didn't want him to get typecast.
Disney take notes get someone who’s passionate about Star Wars to play in Star Wars. Only good thing Disney did was getting him to play kenobi again.
Thank you wedge

Wedge Antilles is not a very very small role
It was for the original trilogy. It wasn't till the last couple of years and books he's become bigger.
Yes, I did...
and they’re both in the rise of skywalker!
WEDGE!!!!!
And yet his brother's military callsign is Obi-Two. He could have been Wedge!😅😅
"It's a very very small role" meanwhile wedge literally being the second best fighter pilot only to luke
It's interesting that these actors keep saying they never saw these movies.. .

Wedge Antilles. THE Wedge Antilles?? Small movie roll sure but he had full EU stories about him! And he's related to obi fucking wan. What a hoot😂

Sir Alec!!

Wedge was in the entire trilogy. He even destroyed the second Death Star in Jedi (yes Wedge shot first)
