    I understand the sticker shock. I bought it anyways. Love the thing. Ultra-fast set-up. Good - not great- sensor/processors … which are both modular and will eventually be upgraded. Elegant integration of all those ‘nice-to-have’ features (battery, Focusser, dewshield, yada yada yada..) and not a single wire or cable. Travels well - the integrated lithium battery falls JUST under airline cutoffs (as I discovered flying it home, after a terse exchange with TSA and the airline)- Thank God.
    And
    In the winter, when it’s so cold it killed the computer I used to running my last set-up…I’m inside.
    I know. What a wimp I am.

      Was the telescope itself (not the tripod) small enough to be carried on the plane? Or did you have to check it in? If I purchase this, I wanna be able to take it with me on planes but worried that if it has to be checked it, they’ll destroy it.

    I'm not surprised that you don't mention the $4k price... I understand why it is that much, but I don't think I'd mention 'beginning astrophotographer' in the same paragraph or even the same video as the Origin. High point is a good astro source though!

    Initial research and development costs are built into initial pricing. Once the scope is out there for a while and competition enters the field, the price will come back into an affordable range. Upgrades to this scope as well as competitive models will likely improve performance as well..

    Always enjoy your beautiful videos on new telescopes! I am already ready to upgrade my Celestron StarSense Explorer 10" Dobsonian I got from you last year. This time I want to be able to get into astrophotography. Any upgrade telescopes for that is greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

    You would expect for the price that Celestron would have used a later model sensor instead of the old IMX178. Would have been much better with something like the IMX585.

    Is the altitude clutch handle supposed to wobble when loose?

    • @highpointscientific
      @highpointscientific  28 дней назад

      Yes, the altitude clutch knob will have some play when it is not engaged. This is a normal aspect of the way the clutch is designed.

    Two questions: 1- how does Origin deal with field rotation? 2- can Origin take a solar filter? Thank you.

    • @ToddHurney
      @ToddHurney 3 месяца назад

      It doesn't. They are thinking about adding a wedge for polar alignment which will help with longer exposure times. Not sure about the solar filter.

    I'm a begginer who wants a turnkey solution. No, I don't want to learn all the ins and outs of astrophotography. Yes, I value my time so much that I'm willing to pay money for convenience. I've delayed buying a smart telescope, because Vaonis and Evscope always seemed like they weren't quite there yet. Is this the one though? Did Celesteon get it right and I should buy it?
    Only interested in your opinion if you also see the value in paying a premium for the all-in-one experience. I don't care if you can build your own rig for cheaper after spending a year perfecting how to use it and photo editing software. We value our time much differently.

    • @highpointscientific
      @highpointscientific  4 месяца назад

      The Celestron Origin does not have a field de-rotator, which means that it is limited to shorter exposure, similar to the SeeStar S50. Having said that, the fast optics from the Origin make it a fantastic choice for deep sky objects and it is capable of capturing a tremendous amount detail!

    Despite initial apprehensions about pairing finely tuned f/2 RASA optics with a smart scope, which might attract beginners without collimation experience, the results are undeniably good. It was delightful to see your friends and family enjoying themselves at your outreach event; that was a nice bonus to witness at the end!

    Mine won't work worth a damn, won't stay connected to WIFI for more than a few seconds. Over $6,000 (I'm Canadian) for a doorstop. I've applied to Celestron for support (via an Internet form, which seems to be the only option), and have had no response so far. Over multiple sessions, at home and out at a dark site, I've made something around 300 to 400 connections to the thing (out of well over 1,000 attempts), but they always die after 5-30 seconds, too little to do anything useful. So, as I say, so far, an extremely expensive doorstop.

    Honest question here: why buy a telescope you cannot look through? I’m about to pull the trigger on an Evolution 8, and a couple good Televue eyepieces. would love to hear people tell me why I might be better to go this route….or confirm that I’m better getting a visual scope that I could later use for casual astrophotography. Thanks, seriously would love to get your thoughts on this…..

      The main reason is that the new (ish) smart telescopes are aimed at people who don't want to invest lots of cash into a system that has to be learned and understood. These smart telescopes allow for straight out of the box use and be able to image objects they have only seen in books

    So theres no live view? Can you see the moon as if you're looking through a normal telescope? It looks like it takes pictures and thats what you see. By live, i mean seeing what this telescope is seeing as its happening and not pictures.

    • @highpointscientific
      @highpointscientific  3 месяца назад +1

      That is correct, there is no live view. The Origin is an imaging telescope only, and there is no way to look through an eyepiece like you would in a traditional telescope. However, it does provide near real-time views of deep space objects in full color, which are displayed on a compatible smartphone or tablet!

      They don’t expect this to be a mass produced telescope. Most people won’t buy one. But make no mistake, this is an amazing product and its existence is a great thing for the future of smart telescopes. Not to mention, if they release a standalone 6” rasa, astrophotographers will be thrilled that this thing was created.

      You cannot buy all these components separately and automate it yourself. You're confused on the true cost of designing the software to make this rig work.
      You're one of those guys that think buying a gaming computer is a waste of money because you can build one yourself. There are people who don't have that skill set or they value their time more than you.

    Saw the price and stopped watching and went back to seastar videos lol. If it had a decent sensor it could justify the price but anything under 25mp is just trash for this price. I would go as far as to say it should have a 50mp sensor. Don’t even try to explain it away with saying lower pixel sensors are better at low light situations. That’s been proven false.
