      @@kazoik Yah! It's all in the loops and the reveerse curves. I intentionally put 4% grades into it so that I could have a helper distrct I have had 12 units pulling and shoving trains up the grade toward Summit. The grade is so stiff that I need real working brakes. I designed a prototype that works great, and I want to go into business with my inventions, but I have Primary Progressive MS and it is really screwinbg things up for me. Would you be interested in running my company? It is called Miniature Railway Foundries. I just can't do it now after my wife died. I need someone to run with it. I don't want to tell everyone on YT about the things that I have dreamt up because they can be stolen. They are so simple, and so easy to put on a layout that I have to be careful talking about it!!! Would you be interested???

    I’m modeling 1910-1935 for the entire layout, with the ability to run both 1935-1965 for about half of the layout that in that time still had rail service, and 1965-present on the main level (it’s a three deck layout) this layout is awesome!

    Brilliant! Just the kickstart I needed; I long have been planning a "3-era layout" with WWII, transition, and a bit of mid 1960's thrown in at different spots, with mostly arid SP SoCal and lush Central Coast, but some Santa Fe and UP sharing trackage. This layout in a 20'X20' building covers it all without seeming packed in tight.

    I loved the Old Dutch Cleanser dirty and weathered car. Reminds me of the carpenter who refuses to work on his own house if you get my drift.

Only worked the Placerville Branch to Nimbus (for UP) but I did ride the entire line in 1978 as a "non-paid" brakeman (I knew the crew personally and they convinced me to mark-off my brakeman's job at Central California Traction for a day and ride with them to P'ville. Mr Larson, thanks so much on explaining your cement plant where it starts off by the conveyerd limestone. Less than eight miles away I believe that is being built. The roller or partial roller is in and a huge 4 to six story building is going up now. Now to the west of those two structures are two six story "water"? tanks then a smaller / wider tank, no clue what will be in it. But all three are together. I'm hoping to model something similar, but primary use will be for making concrete ties for my upcoming layout.

  • @mpetersen6
    @mpetersen6 4 года назад +2

    Maybe I'm missing it but one thing about sound systems. I never seem to hear that distinctive clack-clack sound from when the wheels of cars or engines run over the rail joints on pre-welded rail. I do realize it would be a bear to install. The number of speakers involved to have the sound localized for a large layout would be prohibitive most likely. Add in sensors to trip the circuit for when a wheel passes over a joint etc. It might be something for somebody to look into for use on a limited basis at grade crossings and such.
    Myself I have enough trouble getting the red electricicles to go down the red wire and the black ones the black. Multi-colored wire is a real puzzle. 😉
    Nice layout by the way 👍

    First I want to start by saying this is an incredible layout. Wonderfully done. Lots of hidden gems throughout. Small details like the fisherman in the beginning, the globes on the gas pumps that glow, and many other small scenes that make the layout so nice. I enjoyed it very much. 👍👍
    Was the train, in the opening scene at Oakwilde, coming down grade while coming through and out of that cut? It looked like a fairly steep grade. If it's not my eyes are playing tricks on me or maybe it was the camera angle. I'm not sure. Again wonderful layout. Great video. I can't wait to see what the next video holds in store for all us viewers. 👍🎅❄🎄☃️

    • @kazoik
      @kazoik 4 года назад +2

      Thank you for your comments, William. At Oakwilde, the main line (against the backdrop) is about a 2% grade. The climb from the drill track back up to the main is short but steep, above 4 percent. Two places I worked in the real RR world had switching leads that were exceptionally steep, the Best (Fertilizer) run-around at Lathrop, California on the SP and the Steed Industrial lead on the WP's Reno Branch. Handling short cuts of cars never proved to be an issue with either.

      The beets are anise seed. I picked them along a nearby country road (had to shuck them too!) but you can buy them in the spice section of your grocery store. A bit expensive though!

      Theres been several times I've seen celebrities in airports etc and been on the same flights. I would never approach them for an autograph. The only time we did that was after Braves games when I was a kid. And that was at Milwaukee County Stadium which shows I old I am

      I use anise seed that was growing wild near my home. Had to do my own shucking which was time consuming. You can find it in the spice rack at your grocery store but it's not cheap.

    What is the name of the locomotive at 29:26?

    • @kazoik
      @kazoik 4 года назад +2

      That is an AC4/5 Cab Forward 4-8-8-2, numbered incorrectly as an AC6. Broadway Limited manufactured the locomotive but we installed a Soundtraxx decoder and discarded the factory supplied QSI decoder.

    Love the layout, just incredible! I don't understand what a "Southern Pacific Torpedo Boat" is- please, when you use nonsensical terminology (Southern Pacific has never owned any actual Torpedo Boats), please explain what you really mean by it. Thanks.

      Angie, the four SP passenger-service GP9s, 5622-5625 (later 3004-3007) didn't have dynamic brake fans and grids on their roof but instead had air reservoir tanks, resembling "torpedoes" thus the nickname torpedo boat.
