    You fell in love - and then your Caique parrot started eating your keyboard, which you weren't happy about, but your fingers too! Now that's not going to fly!
    Could it be possible that, if you understood your Caique parrot better, then you'd know how to get along better and you'd have less biting?
    Here are 5 ways you can work to improve your experience. These will help you understand things like:
    1 - Young parrots go through a 'teething' stage
    2 - They don't have hands, so they 'feel' the world with their beaks
    3 - They may be weaned, but they still expect to be fed
    4- Sometimes they are asking a question!
    Watch to learn what the question is, why I allow them to beak my fingers (not cut skin/make me hurt or bleed) and what the 5th things is you can do to improve your experience and increase your bond!

    Very good video. People get very discouraged with a beaky bird. One of my girls is very beaky. She is a pincher and a licker. I gently push her away from my face and refocus her. Being a Caique that lasts for about 30 seconds. When she was younger she would test the pressure of her beak. You made a very good point in saying their beaks are like their hands. ☺️

    They are so beautiful. I have heard they can be very nippy or aggressive. They are very rare in my area but I have seen some for sale and they are expensive because they are rare.
    I was always interested in them but worried about the so called aggression. They look like fun.

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  2 года назад

      How expensive, if I may ask. They aren't too common here either. It's interesting a lot of people ask about them being nippy, saying they have heard that a lot, but I also wonder if they know how to handle a parrot. Sounds like they are not a beginner bird. I think they are super special, of course. However, I think they should only be sold in twos because they need companionship for sure.

    Our Amazon gets VERY scrappy when he gets hungry!!! It was really helpful when we figured that out. Now we take him to eat, give him more food, etc, when he gets hard to handle like that.
    It can help when a parrot is wanting to bite things to play with them with a toy or give them a toy or something else to chew on like a veggie.
    For a while our Amazon would get feisty and bite me every time I got him out of his cage because he was so excited, wanted to wrestle, etc. (It wasn't defensive - he wanted to step up every time. ) I broke the cycle by giving him a piece of a walnut every time I got him out. I showed it to him so his attention was on the nut, then had him step up and gave him the nut. I don't need to give him nuts anymore when getting him out.

      They do become more hormonal with age. It kind of begins at at 3, but my bird didn’t become full forced until he was 5. Once of the things that can be difficult is they go for about a month, twice a year, where you have to be careful. I know not to touch the body, just the head, but sometimes they can stimulate themselves by surfing on your clothes during this time. I don’t think they are a beginner bird. Once they get excited, you have about one second before things take a turn. My bird basically pierced my ear because I took two seconds to react.

    My bird is 5 months old and is extremely bitey. She makes us bleed everyday. I have no idea what to do. I'm sure she is beaky because of her age. I try not to react but sometimes it hurts so so so bad. She isn't afraid of us at all. She constantly only wants to be on us and our hands and shoulders. She's always happy to see us. Our interactions
    Usually start well but within 5-10 minutes she is nibbling and chomping on us. her bites go from small nibbles to her literally
    Trying to tear our skin off. I don't think we're doing anything to provoke her. Please help

    Asking for your advice. I just come back from vacation, & my male caique is so aggressive towards me. He savaged my ears, my chin, my head, & fingers, really bad bites. Been told to leave him in the cage, & feed him treats through the bars. I can't have him out, as he just flies towards my head & savagely bites, drawing blood. He's 2 half hormonal male. If this carries on I have no option to rehome him. Any advice be helpful

    I just visited my 14-week old caique today in the store. I can’t bring him home until after he is weaned. I had two on my hand/arm and the one I’m getting was being very curious (not vicious) and bit me very hard. I did not react but he kind of kept trying to bit the loose skin on the back of my hand so I had to put him back in his cage at that point. How do you make them understand that a bite was TOO hard? They are babies and exploring their new world/human so I understand them being “beaky” - but how do you make them understand what is TOO hard?

      How do they do when they are out of their cages? Do they get along? You should be able to cage them together, but IT MUST be a new cage so that neither can ‘claim’ the territory. They should get a fresh or new cage together to jointly take ownership :)

    Hi, if you have an elderly caique 24 years old. Can it be paired with another caique, or is an older caique male to aggressive at that stage in life. Anyway, if it can be paired, is it best to get another male for it, or a female?

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  11 дней назад +1

      The challenge is that the pairing will depend on his personality and whether he knows how to relate to birds. Has he been around other parrots?
      If no, it'll be tough and may not work. He lost his birdness.
      If yes, he's been around other birds- especially Caiuqes- then yes, but it will take time for him to create a new bond. He has his birdness and can (and wants to) relate to other birds.
      Just like older people- same things apply.
