@ Aidan Osborne Well, perhaps if the employer had insisted on people entering the tank to use the right equipment these firefights wouldn't have had to risk their lives to retrieve the body of the guy who died.
These are obviously very professional, highly qualified people do the job for which they have been trained - they know what they're doing and they're doing it well.

I wouldn't belittle Aidan to much, I doubt Aidan's has a high level of knowledge regarding rescue in Hazmat situation.
It's hard to imagine the number of people required, how many times a crew on SCBA's has to switch out due to low air, the two who have to be ready to go in, people required for decontamination, people manning hoses in case a fire erupts, all the possibilities that need to be covered so everyone goes home in the same condition as when they arrived, except for the victim.

The amount of apparatus and personnel on scene seems like overkill... Do they really need all that to get one person out of a tank??

When the call goes out, it is not known the exact nature of the emergency. Things could escalate and it is better to have too much manpower than not enough.
Tell me, if it were your father/brother/son in that tank, would you rather have too few to do the rescue...or too many?
