  • After driving over 1500 miles from Arkansas, and through 5 states in my 18 year old WJ that I just built, we decided to do some wheeling in Moab.
    Once I found out that half of the trail is the same as the way out, I left the WJ and hopped in with Peyton for a short ride to the overlook. The 140lb rooftop tent definitely adds some excitement on the off camber spots and this is my first time wheeling in the wj since I did the lift, transfer case swap, custom driveshaft, and 35's. I still needed it to drive us home 1500 miles so I took it nice and easy. Future videos of overloading in the ozarks will include much more intense off roading since I'll only be a couple hours away from home and not 20!

    How did it handle at highway speeds? Does the steering have any feel or is it wonky and loose ?

    What gearing did you go with in your axles? Your running 35s right?

    • @OverlandingOzarks
      @OverlandingOzarks  3 года назад +1

      Has stock gearing right now with the 35’s. Actually worked out really well on the hwy getting 16mpg average loaded down and with the roof on top. Only runs 1600 rpms at 70. I wouldn’t regear unless I did one tons and 37’s. Going to do that build, but might keep this one on stock axles and do a crawler build on 40’s with tons

      @@OverlandingOzarks I'm surprised, I have 32"s on my WJ with the 3.73 gears and the 4.7lHO and I wouldn't run more than a 33. But if it worked for you than run it. I think if you had the 4.0 it would definetly struggle though.

      Idk I didn't have any trouble with the trans hunting for gears or the engine feeling under powered. I did plugs, coils, injectors, and trans fluid flush though that might have helped. This is my overland rig so I want to keep the rpms down for the highway as long as it isn't hunting for gears. My friend with the jku on 38's is geared to 4:88 and he was at 3k rpm going the same speed. Almost double the engine speed.

      @@OverlandingOzarks Yeah if it worked thats good. Did you truss the dana 30 at all?
      Also the 4.7L has the 545RFE vs the 4.0s with the 42rfe. So having that overdrive helps on the highway.
      Did the vari-loks have any issues with the noticing spin on the larger tires?

    • @OverlandingOzarks
      @OverlandingOzarks  3 года назад

      I have not trussed it. Ya the overdrive worked great! No problems with the vari-loks with the 35's. Did great in the sand on the beach as you can see in my first trip video, and you can really see them all spinning perfect in the last video when I climbed the giant rock hill. I'm running the 75-140 royal purple with friction
