A big yes on the long arms. My 04 is only up 3" with IRO long arms up front and IRO short arms in back, all adjustable and with the Flex Joints as well, Bilstein shocks. I previously had a budget boost 2" with stock arms, the long arms ride SO much better, it is like a different vehicle. No rocks in my parts, heavy woods and snow in winter. 33 pie cutters (255/80-17) work the best for my trails.
I have a 3" budget boost on my 2000 grand cherokee. Should I add long arms in the front and rear? what is the purpose of adding long arm? and what benifit would i get from adding them?. Everythng else is mostly stock. I am going to be adding a spicer double cardon driveshaft in the front and take out the stock cv style drive shaft. i went through 3 rebuild kits for the front drive shaft already from different carriers, brands and they all suck. Any answers would be appreciated. Thanks
Hey, great video.; Thanks for the info. I have a 2000 WJ Limited and hope to build it up for Overlanding in the backcountry, not much rock crawling unless absolutely necessary. Would I really need long arms on a 4" lift if I am not rock crawling? Or would it be better to stick with an adjustable 3" lift for reliability?? I am trying to keep costs low and use as much stock parts as possible. Thx
The issues you addressed are for dedicated off-road vehicles it's all a bit much for a daily,, all the same crap also applies to the zj, I've only a 2inch so can run the 31s and don't have any problems off-roading with those that have done all you mentioned, will agree tho the longarm is absolutely worth it, ride, handling, articulation sooo much better, and if someone cheapskates out and stays with the shortarm get the adjustable so can push axles back where supposed to be and correct pinion angle, didn't hear you mention adjustable trackbars a must as well
My wj doesn’t run long enough to put a lift on it I absolutely hate the in-line 6 I’m thinking on 4bt swapping it since I want a diesel but also don’t haul much
Awesome video good info thx all tho I’m not going anything bigger then 33s w rubicon stock wheels on mine ,, but yes drive shaft and steering upgrades are definitely needed ,,, thank u
The stock axles are NOT junk. They’re not designed to run 36” tires that weigh 100lbs each more than the stock tires and wheels. What you should say is they might be junk if you’re going up 5 tire sizes from stock.
Great video. What's your opinion on the two different factorie axles offered on the WJ? How many mods need to be made to the JK axles to make them fit the WJ?
Can I upgrade the steering before doing the IRO lift kit? I’m current sitting in a 3 inch lift with spacers. Drives like shit but waiting to drop the coin for the front IRO LA kit
Hey I have a wj and am super serious about getting it to be where your blue jeep is with one ton axles as well I don't know much about cars yet but Im learning alot about cars at work every day. Realistically what should I expect to spend to make my wj badass???
That’s awesome! As far as the tons go expect to spend 10-14k if you do it yourself and build it with top of the line parts. The lift this Jeep is on is like 3k then driveshafts will be 1k wheels and tires 3-5k and whatever else you want to do on top of that
What’s the driveshaft coming out of that you pick up at the junkyard for 40 bucks? I have a 4” lift but looking to put an extra 2” on for a total of 6”. It does have long arms but it’s a rough country lift. I need more room for 33” tires
Your WJ looks good! I’m only running a 2” RC BB and 31s on my ‘04 with the 4.7, that’s all I need for my hunting land. I really like the headlights where’d you score them?
I'm looking to do a 3" lift and stock short arms. Moderate off roading maybe once a month mainly daily driving. I looked into a double cardan shaft and swapping out the transfer case for a 242HD so it's a simple bolt on with driveshaft.
@@ROCKY_TV yea, I'm currently looking at ABS, Antilock brake motor fault codes, and super soft brake pedal. Then I'll look at other maintenance items before I buy the IRO 3"
Get a 231 out of a Dodge truck. . The 242 is rated at 600ftlbs and the 231 is 1400ftlbs If remember correctly. The 231 SYE is also HALF the price of a 242 .
@@immelting9834 Or the NP-242HD. It has a thicker chain and can be found on certain model WJs with the 4.7L. I believe it was an option only in 2000-2002.
@@overlandadventuresoffroad2078 Depends on which 231 your comparing it to . Example : I built a 231J from a 2003 Liberty (JY sells them dirt cheap because it's from a Liberty) and added a wide chain, 6 pinion planetary, and SYE. this went into my old TJ. The 231c has a wide chain from the factory . 231d I believe has a 1 in chain ( If remember correctly) .
Just wanted to know that when you put much taller tires on these vehicles with automatic transmission is it necessary to have the transmission built for the big tires
Not yet, this Jeep will be getting one tons in the spring so I’m going to wait until then so I don’t need to buy 2 sets however it definitely needs them haha
I do agree with him yes. I will be doing this to my 2000 grand Cherokee. But on the other hand I disagree because I have a 97 grand Cherokee. 4inch rc lift. 35inch tires. Everything else stock. And I’ve beat the actual f@ck out of that thing since day one.
I have a WJ 6 cylinder that I want to upgrade the factory cv joint driveshaft, I know the v8 wjs come with a cardan front shaft, can they be installed on a 6 cylinder with no modification?
(8) When getting out of the Jeep, to remember you lifted it!
Definitely go with the double cardin set up
Awesome video! 👌
I stuck with a 2" BDS spring lift. Minimal collateral damage 😆
Thank you! Definitely saves some money that way haha

You dont have to change driveshafts on yhe ZJ's until around 7inchs of lift.
What vehicle did that drive shaft come out of? Just so I know what to look for what vehicle to pull it from when I go to a junkyard
Thank you very much for the information, appreciate the video. I've been chasing DW for a long while on my 02 WJ
What is the length of the junkyard drive shaft? And what model did you get it out of? I am am running a 4in lift wj 4.0
I’ll make a video on it for you I’m not sure I picked this one up years ago so I’ll refresh my memory on how to do it and upload a video for you!

No problem! 33s are a great choice they keep it reliable while still being a capable build.
New to the jeep thing, helpful video thanks

I’ve blown them up with 32s compared to other Jeeps they’re junk. Even JK Dana 30s are far superior and those stuck too.

Great video. What's your opinion on the two different factorie axles offered on the WJ? How many mods need to be made to the JK axles to make them fit the WJ?
I wouldn’t run big tires on any stock wj axles. The front almost bolts in the rear needs a truss for Jk axles
So with the two inch lift , you don't need the long arms? Just replace the Shocks and springs ?

what kind of light bulbs do you have in those headlights ?
Where can I got repair kits for unibody frame repairs. My wish bone pulled right out of them frame.
Hi, I like the hood vents on the flat black Jeep, Can U tell me about them? This video is at 1:54 thanks
Do I have to get a longer front drive shaft just for a 2 inch lift but I am getting a off-road tires the same size tires I got on my Jeep now

How does a wider axle save on trimming ?
Great video .but the dana 30 .has head up great in my girlfriends wj with 4.5 inch lift and 33inch tires .she drives it everyday to work
For sure it should be fine with 33s that was more for a larger lift and larger tires basically 35s+
But thats also not the abuse of going off road which puts a lot of stress on it compared to stock.

@user-ic7rx2mh6u I like it a lot. Would love to go bigger, but then you gotta look at a long arm kit. For what I use my jeep for, I'm good.
I gotcha, I'd like to go bigger myself. Wish they made more options for the v8.

Triangulated arms are worth the money.

Who I say WHO was pretending to be a welder while putting the braces on the spare JK front axle. !?
That was my first time welding it’s definitely rough but that’s why I practiced on something that doesn’t matter

Nobody said it was hard…. Just that if you want it perfect and matching on both sides it will take some time to do.
