USS Allen M. Sumner (DD-692), was the lead ship of her class of destroyers. The ship was named for Allen Melancthon Sumner, a United States Marine Corps captain, who was killed in action during World War I.
Allen M. Sumner was laid down on 7 July 1943 at Kearny, New Jersey, by the Federal Shipbuilding and Drydock Company; launched on 15 December 1943; sponsored by Mrs. Allen M. Sumner, Captain Sumner's widow; and commissioned at the New York Navy Yard on 26 January 1944.
The Allen M. Sumner class was a group of 58 destroyers built by the United States during World War II. Another twelve ships were completed as destroyer minelayers.
Often referred to as simply the Sumner, this class was distinguished from the previous Fletcher class by their twin 5-inch/38 caliber gun mounts, dual rudders, additional anti-aircraft weapons, and many other advancements. The Allen M. Sumner design was extended 14 feet (4.3 m) amidships to become the Gearing class, which was produced in larger numbers but did not see significant service in World War II.
Four of the Allen M. Sumner class destroyers were sunk during WWII. One example is of one Allen M. Summer-class destroyers, the USS Mannert L. Abele (DD-733). In that scenario, after being heavily damaged by kamikaze attacks, the Imperial Japanese Navy developed the Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka, a purpose-built, rocket-powered human-guided kamikaze attack aircraft employed by Japan against Allied ships towards the end of the Pacific War during World War II. Once the destroyer was fatally damaged, the Imperial Japanese Navy bombers deployed the Ohka rocket which hit the destroyer amidships. The ship began to split in two when she sank.
After being retired from the US fleet, 29 of them were sold to other navies, where they served many more years. One still exists as a museum ship in South Carolina, the USS Laffey (DD-724), which is also the destroyer that fended off against multiple
Kamikaze attacks despite being heavily damaged.

Sumner Class Destroyers, 58 were built, USS Laffey (DD-724) is the only ship remaining of the class and she is a museum ship in Charleston, South Carolina. USS Allen M. Sumner was laid down on 7th July 1943 and was commissioned on 26th January 1944. She was named in honour of a US Marine Captain Allen M. Sumner who was killed in WW1. Sumner would see several actions during the close of WW2, serving in the USN until she was decommissioned on 15th August 1973, she would be scrapped in 1974.

Americans were so much better at preserving their historic ships that the British. It makes me envious, a trip around a lot of these ships is something I'd love to do. Maybe one day.
USS laffey was named after a civil war medal of Honor recipient USS laffey dd-459 was the first ship to have the name and USS laffey dd-724 took on the worst Kamikaze attack and survive

It's a typo which they won't fix because well they haven't with other ships but most of wargaming staff knows they are built

Excellent in-depth look at the Sumner Spartan she's a adequate platform for the ever-changing needs of surface ship Warfare from these little surface ships but I said it for a while to folks I just feel like the games mechanics are broken though with regards to Destroyers secondary armaments on most Castle ships don't seem to pick them up nowadays unless they've got some sort of boosted inspiration I saw on your other video with the Yamato you just get random pop shots from torpedo sometimes and I'll be honest I'm not even detected half the time whenever I do get Torpedoes coming my way the Sumner is a good looking ship though Aesthetics I like it it feels balanced if Bill's thoroughly protected even though her shell plating is ultra super thin but that's just where her engineering took her she didn't need to be a heavily armed battle wagon to do her job of anti-submarine warfare and engaging other enemy flotillas cheap and disposable made in the USA :-)
I'm going to be completely honest this thing can not be left unchecked. This this freaking monster in the right hands not only can harass the daylights out of you, but it freaking hurts!

Sod perceptive. Guns guns and more guns. Lightning turret traverse and map awareness. I don’t need perceptive, but I do enjoy guns that no other destroyer can compete with

The Sumner is a temptress, I wanna play other boats but noooo she keeps me comin back for more
Usually I use Gleaves as commander for american destroyers ecause he has only the skill fragile threat for less detectibility and higher movement speed fom the fourth skill line. Sometimes I change his skill in the third line from the last skill into the second for more torprange.
I'm going to have to play some more world of warships. Be cool to play a Sumner class. My grandfather served on DD-709

Keeping AP in for that gearing would’ve been better than HE
See the only ones I've noticed AP being effective against has been Khaba
@@SpartanElite43 It works almost as good against gearing (for me atleast). Even light cruiser AP is deadly to gearing but it needs to hit the belt though.
@@SpartanElite43 I just killed broadside Gearing with Gearing AP. Result was 17 pens and 2 overpens. Highest damage salvo did 5.5K damage.
I think this is easily the best American DD, I think it beats out the gearing due to the greater mobility

You play concealment style your Dd comes weak to fight another Dd you could be smoke in seconds but you like to play like that it's ok the thing is if you spot a Dd 6.1 or 6.3 and the guy knows we're you are you and his coming to you u better run 🤙✌️
Sumner even with concealment is definitely not weak against other DDs
There are 2 DDs I worry about in this thing and that's Khaba and a Kleber with reload booster
