Loved your responses to my last question about detail work so I though't I'd ask another.. What's your best advice or tip for painting foliage yourself? Would love to know!
Chuck Black Art I have a brush I trimmed uneven with a few long strands here and there. It was for fur, but I found it useful for grass too. I don't know much, so I just experiment alot.
Great video as always, i am also using a few brushes that i cut them myself and this way i will have for example 3 tips to do grass blades insted of one( it goes a bit faster😁) and also i use a very thin liner brush.
I tend to use really totaled-out brushes, for distant foliage, and small detail brushes for up close foliage. I have used, after painting grasses in, a tool to scratch out highlights. The highlights can be made quite thin, using that technique, and if taken all the way to the canvas, are quite bright.
Hi Chuck This great tutorial is 2 yrs old and I did not start painting on canvas until 20 months ago waiting for a hip op at 78. So, I have watched many grass videos and this is by far the best, therefore many thanks. I have painted many landscapes with horses, dogs, cattle, sheep etc., mustering but my grass is RS! I am now going over every painting after watching this video and making the grass bounce out of the scenes. Many thanks once again. Ross
Chuck, you read my mind. After watching your time-lapse of this piece my first thought was, "I wish Chuck would do a tutorial on how he paints such detailed, realistic grass." Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and skill and enthusiasm with us. I think I speak for all in saying that we appreciate you.
You are so generous to share your advice, time, and techniques with us. You are such a great realistic style artist. You also have a fun and interesting personality. I love ALL of your videos. Thank you so much.
Wow wow wow!!! U know every piece of art that you do is unbelievably amazing and I can never choose a favorite but this one is possibly my favorite!! Its so beautiful and u are such an inspiration to me!! Thank you so much for sharing Chuck!!
Love all your paintings, would you kindly show how you paint lights and their beams like on your realistic farm painting with the deer and old trucks. Hope this question makes since. Always looking forward to your next video. Thanks for being so open with your technics
Perfect Chuck so realistic! I hope I can get these results. I love the sky as well in this painting. As always I love listening to you explain how to paint. Thank you
Great demo, Chuck. It's nice to see that to get what you want requires patience and perseverance. I get frustrated at times because to do the job right requires a LOT of work. But the end result is worth it - just look at your work.
I love watching you paint, every blade of grass is important to you. This scene looks like the deer are happily crossing over at sunset or maybe sunrise when it's safe to be about. Wonderful .
Another dynamic tutorial. You are a Magician! No question about it. Thanks for sharing all your little painting secrets when doing the details. So much to learn, and I am thankful you have given me the opportunity! Many, Many thanks!
You're my inspiration. I keep watching your videos and learn so much from you. My goal is to paint like you. Your work is magical. Thank you for this video on the grass.
You make your grasses look like a photograph! Unbelievably realistic! I love doing detail painting but, not sure I will ever be able to replicate yours to the level of realism you can do!
You've done it again, Chuck, another incredible painting and demonstration for us fans who hang on your every brush stroke! Your tip about switching from acrylic to oil is fabulous! I just don't know how you possibly get that paint to stretch so far with that tiny liner brush. THANKS for sharing, just beautiful:)
Yes! I subscribed and want to see many more tutorials. You are the only person youtube I have subbed, that`s how much I love your style and painting. My whole family paints but I am a beginner lol All your paintings are of things I love and painting them is going to be exciting. I also love Peregrin Falcons and have painted them in the past. I would love to see you paint a few types of predators and also a buffalo, even a white one..wow. White animals are difficult so it would make a great tutorial. Thanks so so much for sharing your gifts!
Thank you for this. I'm just starting out in the world of painting and videos like this are a huge help in demystifying the various techniques needed to produce good pieces.
Thank you for this video! I always struggle with grass and waver between not enough detail and too much. But when it comes down to it, there really is no quick and easy way... it is just building up many layers.
This is a very good video for me. It's what I'm struggling with. I painted a horse real good and the one thing that I'm having trouble with is the grass. I may have gone too bight on the green. But I sure am going to watch this again and even again if I have to. I painted this one for my very good friend who worked with horses that he loved. The hardest part is that he's a very good painter, himself. So, that makes me feel intimidated. LOL I"ll keep on trying; I can't give up. Thank you so much for this Chuck Black. I love the deer here. It's another great painting of yours. Love it.
Thanks a whole, whole lot for this video. This is going to make me a real long ways. I've been an artist in CGI for a number of years now, but painting.. It's something else. You don't get an undo button and things I feel the "master" off laugh and kick me in the shins. Grass is one of those things in physical media.
Hi , Chuck, Make the Grass Look Stunning, wow i am always following your tips , and your attention , to detail is truly Amazing ; and Thank you for sharing Chuck ; i am your Fan Guy from Montréal Québec ;

Paintings by Justin me too, it's worn out but works great for me too✌️👍
So glad to see someone who seriously paints grass that looks like grass. You cant get in a hurry.
watering and proper light and food will insure that your grass will grow and give you big buds
LOL
I'm so fucking stupid I was trying so hard to understand your comment
