As a cancer survivor in a family full of cancer survivors with a physicians as an uncle and sister, a biologist as a father and a mother who is a registered nurse, I can attest that none of them would have put me through 18 months of sheer hell (and at least 10 hospitalizations because my immune system crashed so badly because the stuff keeping me alive was literally killing me) if drinking some water could have put me into remission just like the 18 months of Chemo.

@@HannahAlonzo Hey Hannah! I'm late to the party for this video but something very similar happened to me literally 2 days ago. I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer after a routine mammogram that I only did because i was planning on getting a breast reduction.(Get your yearly mammograms done ladies. It's worth the squishing!!) I was immediately, and I'm talking within 30 minutes, put in contact with a great team, an oncologist, endocrinologist, geneticist and others. They literally created my treatment plan with 45 minutes of me finding out. As a side note, I do get treatment at one of the biggest research hospitals in the US so I'm lucky. Either way, I digress. We decided on an aggressive approach with radiation and localized chemotherapy starting this upcoming Monday. In the meantime they wanted me to also start oral chemotherapy with a pill called Avastin. They immediately put the order in so the pills could be sent in from NIH and I walked down to the pharmacy. As I was waiting to pick up my prescription and playing Pokémon Go this lady comes and sits right next to me (cause fuck Covid protocols, right?) but I was too tired to have that conversation. She starts complimenting my hair. Girl, I gotta tell you, I looked like shit. I wasn't supposed to go anywhere that day so when the hospital called me to come in ASAP, I was scrubbing the insides of my oven after a failed roasting incident of one very unlucky ham. My hair was greasy, sweaty and literally knotted in a bun with the first tie I could found which happened to be a scrunchie my cat is in love with and has been chewing on for about a month. So it's clear to see why I gave this lady the most incredulous look... Either way, she doesn't really wait for me to answer but she launches into a whole recruiting pitch cause don't "I want to have my own business???" As a side note, this is a military base so if you are a dependent and have a pulse, you're a target. I'm usually a lot less nice about it but I didn't want to have a fight at a pharmacy while waiting for chemotherapy pills so I simply told her I'm not interested. This lady just looked at me and with a straight fucking face told me "well, even if you don't want to be a rep, it's obvious you could use our products! Our shakes could really help get rid of that extra weight and clear out your skin! Don't you want your husband to be proud of you??" and looked at me all excited and expecting. I shit you not, this is what this lady said. I was too stunned to reply. As I was trying to articulate my most polite "fuck you", i got called that my meds were ready so I got up, picked my meds and just left in a daze... I'm still speechless.

The first story reminds me of the “good pastor” a member of the church I used to belong to went to the alter for healing and told the pastor and the deacons that she had stopped taking her medication and was trusting in God for full spiritual and physical healing. He went to the Mic and said “God made sure there would be medical doctors on this earth who prescribed medication for physical and mental ailments and while we believe in the strength of prayer he advised all patrons of the church to never stop or start any medication without a doctors care. Thank God he was not like the pastor before who told a lady that her mental health anti-depressant was BLOCKING Gods will to cure her through trust in him and prayer. How awful, I’m glad he left and we got one who respected doctors

My dad died from prostate cancer. He had a few people suggest alkaline water. Thankfully, he ignored them, and went with hormone treatment that gave him a few more years. My daughter was in grade 2 when he was diagnosed, and when I told her teacher, she said maybe alkaline water would be a cure. Ack, uncooked chicken is one of my fears! When I was pregnant with my first baby, I went to Chick-fil-A and got nuggets. I bit into one, and it was raw on the inside. For the rest of that pregnancy, I felt nauseated every time I was around chicken or could smell it. I couldn't eat chicken for a few years after that and went even longer not being able to cook it myself. The dangers these MLMs spread! Microwaved meat could put some people in the hospital.

But a little bit about no salt products. There are a ton of people (my parents and myself included) who seek out products low or sodium free because we have high blood pressure and sodium can raise it to unsafe levels. To anyone who sees Vector/CutCo using a rental space at an outlet mall or anything like that, please try to find the sign that's usually posted in the front windows by the person leasing out the space to them. If you can find their number or email address, contact them to let them know that Whoever's Name Here who is renting their space on Whatever Date(s) Here is using the space to pitch their MLM. Typically this is a violation of the terms of their rental agreement and they'll get removed for it. They know they're not supposed to do it, and they will conveniently leave that information out of their side of the agreement. 🙄 even if you aren't a part of the pitch, if you see it happening from the outside and are pretty sure of what you're witnessing, it's good to let them know. 👍🏼

Former Amway IBO here! For your 3rd story, that is a very common tactic that was used while I was in, especially for newer recruits. To meet people and talk about your "mentors" (usually a platinum or above couple) and how they helped you and are willing to help a few more people be successful in this business opportunity. And usually once it got to business talk you would hand your prospects over to them and they would do meetings for you since "you didn't know how to show the plan yet" aka manipulate people. Until they could trust you to manipulate people yourself, you weren't even allowed to show the plan yourself unless it was a last resort kind of thing.
I'm kinda tempted to make Amway videos or something cause I feel like a lot of what they do is different from modern MLM's.

Past a certain point, I think it's too *expensive* for them to change their mind. Expensive in the sense that they would then have to tell their entire downline that they've been promoting something predatory. They'd have to accept themselves that they could've been making the world a worst place. For many, that is too great of a cost. It's easier to just keep selling the dream and telling the "haters" to "work harder".

I am a breast cancer survivor. I developed my cancer young, and thankfully (sort of) because my Mom and my Aunt (Mom’s sister) as well as several of their cousins we caught it early, because I was able to start my mammograms early. I was Stage I (T1N0M0), and both hormone receptor positive and Her2 Positive. The Her2+ meant my cancer was growing very rapidly, so we opted for a double mastectomy, 18 months of IV chemo, followed by 10 years of oral chemo, and monthly shots of injectable medication to suppress my hormones. So we’re throwing lots and lots of stuff at this. I cannot tell you how many Huns asked me why I wasn’t opting for a wasn’t doing something more “natural,” and then mention their MLM product. I even had an Monat Rep say that their products could make my hair stay in while I was going thru chemo (my sister is a physician and I brushed my mom’s hair as it fell out). A lot of these women were older than me, and I don’t like to speak rudely to my elders so I would just say something like “well, a lot of my chemo drugs are actually naturally derived.” But I finally had it when someone selling the pink drink literally insisted that I drink their pink drink in front of her, denying that it had any sort of non-nutritive sweetener (they make me super sick and you can see where this is going when you add it to chemo sick you may want to stop reading here) next thing you no, I am projectile vomiting into my office waste basket while my actual friend runs in and holds my wig back. (I would work as much as I could and always wore an expensive natural hair wig because I was felt embarrassed about the whole bald situation.
I have had some not so bad situations with MLM sellers. A friend who sold Lu La Roe gave me some loose fitting dresses free for when I had my drains in so I would be comfortable, but it was shortly before she left the company. I also remember that during the Christmases I had to have infusions, a man in a Santa suit would come in (with a reindeer and clown. Don’t know why the clown.) With goody bags. They were really nice. They had really cute stuffed animals, makeup from Lancôme (they were left over makeup bags that corporate probably allowed a store to donate to my cancer center.), some healthy snacks, and a bunch of Rodan and Fields. There was no card to get in touch and no strings attached to the Rodan and fields, and the cream was pretty good. So that was pretty nice of the R&F rep, because it’s literally at least hundreds of patients. Stay healthy, happy, joyful and blessed everyone!

I have MS, and have had people tell me random “cures”, and even see many other ms warriors on various online forums explain that they’re stopping their treatment to try {insert various essential oils/diets/other snake oil treatments here}. It’s depressing to see. Modern medicine has come a long way, and the medical treatments for MS now are far more advanced than they used to be even 10 years ago. The treatment I’m on is intense, but has shown to stop progression in 75% of patients for at least 5 years…and in my opinion, anything that might slow the progression of this disease is worth trying. I believe in alternative therapies that can compliment the medical treatment recommended by your doctor, but to tell desperate people they can be cured by something you benefit from financially is beyond disgusting. It’s inhumane.

I even considered contacting the rep and buying more, but since I'm anti MLM, I didn't. Also, less sodium isn't ''taking the joy out of food''. Most people really need to eat less sodium for health reasons. Sodium can be added separately as well, you don't need it in every single spice you buy and use.

I am so paranoid about raw poultry (all meats, but especially poultry) that not only do I bleach or use bleach cleansers on every surface after doing anything with it, not only do I wash my hands twice after touching it, etc., but for years my Thanksgiving turkey was rinsed inside and out with a mild bleach solution before (rinse rinse rinsing) and cooking.
Note: I used the water/bleach ratio recommended for drinking and/or cooking water during and after power outages from hurricanes. So it’s a “safe for consumption” mixture, and again was rinsed VERY thoroughly, but still powerful enough to kill bacteria and germs. (I started buying free-range and/or organic turkeys and other poultry, so I don’t have to be quite that paranoid anymore, but I am still super anal about cleaning and food safety, especially with poultry. People laugh at me, too, for taking the temp of every single piece of chicken, in multiple spots, when I make fried or sautéed chicken, or for washing my hands before touching food if I so much as open a cabinet, but I’ve been cooking dinner for my family almost every night for over 20 years, and we have never had any illnesses or anything else from unsafe or ill-prepared food.)

Omg this microwave chicken story!!!!! Reminds me of an old roommate I had. She had company over one night and she was cooking a whole chicken. She INSISTED it could be cooked in 1 hour. I tried to tell her a whole chicken takes longer. She was so stubborn and when it came out RAW she kept microwaving it to try to get it DONE for her company. Not only that- but was barely seasoned. It was greyish/white. I was SO happy that I had already made other plans for dinner. And my bf (now hubby) at the time and I were making Korean short ribs on our smokey Joe in the backyard. I felt so bad for her company and to make it worse they could smell our food. We really only bought a small package from Trader Joe's so not enough to share. Nothing to do with MLM but her and her mom ran a business together and they made a lot of outlandish claims that they could cure cancer with colloidal silver, reverse osmosis water, and essential oils.

Ugh I remember going to a Vector/Cutco "interview" about 25 years ago I think, I was a college student at the time in my early 20's- they had their usual deceptive "help wanted- no experience, $14 per appointment!" ads plastered all over the school campus and in the local newspaper. Their tactics haven't changed much, apparently. I didn't know what MLMs were then but I've always been a socially anxious introvert, so the "job" (when they finally got around to telling us about it) sounded like my personal idea of hell, lol! I went and sat through that entire terrible "interview" but I never bought anything and never went back. All the cliches were there- group of 8-10 twenty somethings in an office type building, in a conference room, lots of talk about how the opportunity would change our lives, demonstration of the knives, several hours-long presentation, etc. I remember thinking even then that even if I wasn't an introvert, even if I could sell knives to that many people, I would never be able to sell enough, for a long enough time, to actually make a livable income. And I didn't know a lot of people either except family, and we didn't have lots of money to spend on stupid things like special knives when the cheap ones they already had worked just fine!

Salt: It’s useful to have salt free spice blends because you can always add salt but you can’t remove it so there’s a limit to how much flavour you can add. People who have high blood pressure or heart failure have to limit their consumption of salt because it increases blood volume and as such raises blood pressure. Sodium free salt doesn’t do it because it’s potassium chloride instead of sodium chloride, but tastes a bit different than normal salt.
Microwaved chicken: Use a thermometer in the thickest part of the meat and a couple other points. It won’t make it taste any better (aside from possibly reducing the cooking time so it won’t get as dry), but you can make sure it hit the right temp. Cutting it into one inch or two centimetre pieces can make it cook more evenly and quickly, but it’s a bit easier to overcook.
Microwaves being healthier: You can cook things faster which reduces the amount of vitamins lost to cooking. Using it to “steam” veggies instead of steaming on the stove prevents the vitamins from leaching into the cooking water, and the shortened cooking time can reduce the amount lost to heat

That first story is a total gut punch. This is not on the same level, but my mom was taken advantage of by my half sister who was selling something called MonaVie (a now defunct mlm) that was basically super expensive bottles acai juice, I think. My half sister basically sold it to my mom as a cure all that would help with her chronic back pain. It of course never helped, and my mom bought a whole bunch of bottles before she finally stopped (not sure what the reason), but it was so expensive, she would only drink a small shot glass once a day, hoping it would help her. I think they were about $40 for a wine bottle of juice, and this was back in the mid 2000's.
I often think back on that and how my half sister, a generally wretched person (and I don't say that lightly, she has completely taken advantage of me after my mom died), took advantage of my mom. She's still a hun, trying to push DoTerra products on my dad who has had a stroke. We don't buy anything, but she's convinced that they basically have kept him alive. Not the hospice or our live in nurse who is amazing, or the fact that my dad is a total fighter and survivor - no, it's the stupid oils and oily products.
I went on a tangent. It's not at all on the same level as what happened to the poor cancer patient, but I'm still angry over what happened to me mom, I can't imagine the anger towards that water hun the op must have.

I can totally relate to the CutCo story. A couple of people I went to high school with that I knew moderately well had been suckered into joining, didn't know much about it until I get some random text messages one day saying that I would be a great fit based on what my friends had said about me, and sent me a link to apply. I was wary to click on the link, but those same people mentioned to me that they'd dropped my name a few times. At the time I absolutely hated my retail job (who doesn't), and thought I might as well apply. The application process from what I remember was super weird and vague (I don't even think they'd asked me for my resume) and eventually pushed me through to an automated text system to sign up for my interview spot, which was also weird since any of the jobs I'd applied for always took a few days at least to even offer me an interview. At this point I was getting weird vibes but I'd already made my appointment for a Saturday at some weird time. Later, when I looked up the details, I found the location they wanted me to go to was about a 30-45 minute drive from where I lived (and not to mention, also looked sketchy). I ended up not even going to the "interview" and was glad I didn't, didn't even bother cancelling. Later, I come to find out a little more about what my friends were doing, and was even MORE glad I didn't bother going! I've never had a ton of friends or been great at "selling", so the whole idea of holding "appointments" was mortifying. They all eventually ended up leaving shortly after.
I find it so weird that CutCo/Vector Marketing in particular makes an effort to suck in high-school aged kids, probably because it's easier to get them young before they have any idea that MLM schemes are way too good to be true. What teenager wouldn't want to make quick cash?

I called the “employer” back and told him I decided to turn down the offer. However, that didn’t stop two follow-up phone calls asking me to come in and complete my HR paperwork.

No sodium after a stroke had another stroke because her sodium was too low. There is a needed level of sodium. Too low is dangerous too. She was in the medical profession & still had issues. Can you imagine a MLM hun with a cure?

Grab a meat thermometer! eggs/ground meat should hit 160F, poultry/fowl to 165, and other cuts to 145.

Hearing the line about asking the nurses to spoon her the alkaline water and dab it on her even in her final moments made me start crying. I'm usually more prone to grow angry over injustice than sad, but knowing this woman potentially forwent a potential life-saving treatment in favor of snake oil someone sold her is miserable; i don't know how you can live with yourself after doing something like that

That poor cancer patient! Reminds me of when my grandma was into Amway and they had some sort of aloe Vera drink. One of my cousins had leukemia and was getting treatment for it- mid 1970’s- so probably harsher than now. He survived but was left with constant intestinal issues. Grandma always told me that if his parents had given him the aloe drink he wouldn’t have been having the issues. She was pretty narcissistic and toxic.

there was a study done once where two test groups got the exact same amount of the exact same food, but one group had to eat all the meals after they were put through a blender.
And the test group who had the nice appetising meals ended up digesting and absorbing more of the good healthy parts of the food, like vitamins etc. The blender group was basically forcing themselves to eat food they found disgusting, and even tho it was the exact same food, they didn't get the same benefits from it.
All this to say: if you think you're being healthier by forcing yourself to eat stuff that grosses you out, chances are it's not helping you

Having family with high blood pressure and who must avoid as much sodium as possible, I can see where this MLM came up with the idea, but it is a complete niche market.

you are right! Epicure seasonings have no flavour whatsoever. They are over priced and tasteless. Yuk.

I used to only reheat food on the stove because I felt the microwave killed any nutrients left in the food. Now I have two tweens and ain't nobody got time for that!

A "friend" of mine started OPTavia and was trying to force me to sign up for it, and got overly aggressive with me and even tried to manipulate my husband into spending the nearly $500 for a box of premade crap that isn't even really all that healthy for you and all it does is literally starve your body and cause you to lose way too much weight way too fast which can be very unhealthy for you. When I finally got it through to her that I wasn't going to become a downline for her she started to manipulate anyone and everyone around me (including my now husband) into treating me like dirt and almost caused my husband and I to not even get married! She went as far as to spread lies to the pastor of our church (and our officiant) about me and try to get him to not officiate for us and tell my husband I didn't deserve him and that he should leave me. ALL BECAUSE I WASN'T WILLING TO GO BANKRUPT FOR A BOX OF FOOD!!! Yes I needed to lose weight but I was not about to through HALF of a paycheck a month towards a box of prepackaged food that didn't look all that appetizing anyways and always turned my stomach when I was around her and she was eating it.

May I reccomend garlic powder, and/or mrs. Dash if you have to be on a low sodium diet for whatever reason or just want to cut down on salt, it will replace the salt well as well as add good flavor to basically anything you would normally use salt on

Listening to the Fred Myer story about the girl who befriended her in the store and all that..........Hannah, I sent you an email a few days ago with my own MLM story-they were connected to Amway and touted this guy who had changed their lives-and I feel creeped out of my skin at how similar the initial encounter is to mine.

There is no excuse for sally. When you have lives in your hands you are responsible for doing research. She needs to be in jail.
