  • Hi guys!
Todays video is a long one! But with good reason. I get asked all the time how a zero based budget can be made or setup to fit people's need so I just decided to make a video as detailed as possible for anyone who is starting to understand. But like always budgets are so personalized that I can't promise that this method may work for you. Everyone is different along with their finances and what can work for me may not work for you. Lastly just know this is a take on what Ive learned through my debt free journey and that Im not a financial expert and won't have all the answers for you (so please keep that in mind). Part 2 of how to break down a monthly budget into regular paycheck budgets will be coming soon!
I hope you enjoyed- it was a long one- but totally necessary,
    Erika

One of the best examples of a zero based budget on YT. I could see how hard you prepared beforehand and by your explanations could tell how you genuinely want to help other people, who are possibly new to budgeting, understand the basics!

I just paid my LAST credit card payment yesterday and it feels so damn good! I only have two credit cards, but man the way I was spending like I was in Congress was insane! I leave my credit cards at home and act like they don’t even exist lol.
This video is great! I agree about writing the numbers down, it makes it more “real” and shakes you up. I checked my credit report last night and I found a collection that I need to get my hands on to pay off. I hate that it got to that point 😫

Been watching you from the start. I love how you reinforce that you totally don't need stickers and fancy books etc - even a simple piece of paper each month is enough. Scrap paper if you don't have a pad. That's how I budgeted for over a year and then branched out to a simple 30c note book following that. The key is being disciplined enough to tell your $$ where to go!

Thank you Erica. I always love your videos.
Dave Ramsey doesn’t say you can’t take vacations. You just have to cash flow the vacation & not put it on a credit card.
We are going on a big vacation which we have had a Sinking Fund for for 18 months.
Once one starts the Baby Steps, there shouldn’t be any credit cards opened so one doesn’t get back into debt when one panics about not having a job, etc, because that’s is digging out the bottom of the hole one is already in. A lot of people don’t want to get rid of the credit cards because they want to “build their credit”.

    • @erikalifevlogs
      @erikalifevlogs  5 лет назад +7

He actually does say no vacations. Its his pet peeve that people do go on them when they are paying off debt. He calls them the Dave-ish plan. He says cash flow vacations after Baby Step 2.
Credit Cards also dont have to be demonized. Some people are great with them and pay them off the same moment they use them. Its just certain individuals with no self control like me that really shouldn’t have them.
As for building credit - its actually really important- Dave said it himself in one if his videos- he wouldnt be able to rent an apartment because he has an undetectable credit therefore they denied him even though he can buy the building. Idk about you but I cant buy a building to live in so I have to rely on my credit yet Im still paying off debt.
That is my opinion and no one can say what a person can or can not do. We just want to get our finances in order to live a debt free life.

I love you channel. I just came across it. Debt is something that I had to accept. Sigh. I’m working on my snowball. It really does work. My income is very tiny. So, I have to budget really, really, really well. However, this is just my expenses. My husband pays the mortgage etc... this just works for us. I gave up working to become a full time minister so I had to accept that my expense will be less than a thousand dollars per month.

This video came up while I was looking at some other budgeting videos, and wow you explained it the clearest. Trying to figure out a budget seems really ominous, but you just laid it all out so simply. Thank you for the great video!

Love your vids and your accent.
How many planners do you have? I’ve seen 3 different ones so far in your vids. You should do a video just on all your planners the purpose of each one :-)

Thank you for the transparency it’s refreshing!! And congratulations to getting your credit cards down to 5! That’s a big accomplishment girl. The way you did your zero base budget is different from the way I do mine (still like watching you do yours) it shows that a budget is really a personal thing and it’s different from person to person
