Nick Serota curated a really fine Judd show at Tate Modern, which included one particularly late anodised work that really struck me, which seemed to glow and dematerialise with ethereal light inside a perfectly milled aluminium cube. Shame Judd didn't live longer to realise more of those. But my most powerful encounter with a Judd n London was at the original Saatchi gallery in st Johns wood. An immense former paint factory with a vast empty floor and natural lighting above, with just one long wall work, a multiplicity of birch ply boxes that seemed to thicken the air around them, as they progressed through various partitioned combinations, articulating space, light and shadow. A precursor perhaps to the future masterpiece at Marfa.
