No, Harenhal’s curse is mentioned in the show. Little finger mentioned it when Tyrion floated the idea of giving him the castle.

Gargan Qoherys was "Gargan the Guest", named as such due to his proclivity for crashing all the weddings in the region to claim his kingly "right of first night". Fitting that he was gelded.
Don't forget about Amory Lorch and Vargo Hoat! Even though they weren't lords of harrenhall, it still brought them to ruin

What the mountain did to vargo hoat was one of the craziest endings to a person's life in anything I have read
House Whent is not yet extinct, not while all but one Stark child lives. They may not have the name, but they have the Bat blood and are thusly cursed. All the other houses were destroyed, root AND stem. Just like Slynt was and Baelish will be. I hope at least one stark lives to have kids.
@@burtan2000 Slynt has sons in King's Landing, but he never set foot in Harrenhal so the Slynts are probably not afflicted by the curse.
But House Whent is considered extinct even though there are Tullys with Whent blood, the same might have happened with the other houses, the main branch went extinct but some people with their blood might have survived away from Harrenhal.
Or maybe there is no curse and a curse is how GRRM thinks a series of unfortunate events would be interpreted by medieval-like people.

Harrenhall was also held during Baelish's appointment by: Tywin Lannister, Amory Lorch, Roose Bolton, Vargo Hoat, The Mountain that Rides, Polliver and Raff the Sweetling and finally Ser Bonnifer Hasty by command of Ser Jaime Lannister. All who held the castle had a horrible end, or will have.
You could argue their families as well. At least as far as D&D's shitty writing is concerned. For example, I would not have eradicated House Lannister by forgetting Cersei was pregnant but D&D wrote for that ending anyway. Tyrion is Bran Stark's hand of the king but history refuses to remember him, his new position is supposed to be a punishment and I don't see him wanting to be with a woman who only wants him for his gold (assuming he still has any). His gold is the only thing about him left to like considering he does have a hand in aiding Daenerys' assault on King's landing, and was her hand of the Queen also. House Bolton is dead also, and Lord Baelish. Petyr is curious since as the host says, he never set foot in the castle

I believe Harrenhal has the same effect as the touch of a dragon while burning things. I think they're kinda radioactive. There's radioactive fallout at Harrenhal, and the stilbirths and curse seem to have a relation to it. As for the dragons, every dragonrider who went burning around a lot got sterile: Maegor the Cruel is the best example.
Um... Aegon and his 3 sisters killed a lot of people during the conquest and they all procreated
@@wisdommanari6701 After Rhaenys was captured and the Targaryens unleashed the Dragon Wroth in Dorne neither Visenya nor Aegon were fertile. Even Visenya was rummored to have used black magic to get herself pregnant with Maegor before that, for she was dragonburning around more than her siblings.

If Dragons caused fertility issues with their riders then House Targaryen would’ve died out long before Aegon’s conquest.
Maegor had fertility issues, but this was probably due a bad hand of genetics or issues with being inbred.
Jaehaerys fought on his Dragon way more than Maegor had to and still had like 13 kids.
In fire and blood you find out that one of maegors wife's is poisoning the other wives so maegor won't have children

I'm hoping somebody decides to dismantle Harrenhal since all that stone would probably be useful.
Because of the Dragonflame, it's probably all melted together, like Dragonstone and the walls around Volantis and Tyrosh or the Dragonroads in Essos.
Harrenhal is still a functional castle that hosts big events and among others
It will likely be the place of the last stand during the Long Night
There's also an aspect of the curse that makes the inhabitants infertile. Aside from the many miscarriages and the failure of the many families that held the castle to produce heirs, it is noted that Pretty Pia who had lived in the castle her whole life and had carnal relations with half the Lannister army showed no signs of being impregnated. Jaime himself noticed that part about her.
Am assuming Tywin wasn't so taken in to ideas of curses and hexes. Otherwise, he would take serious note to the stories of sad and grisly endings of any lord or King who makes themselves comfortable in Harrenhal
Hbo should hire you they need someone with the knowledge of the book lore so that there is no repetition of season 8

What about curse of king's landing. All families which ruled king's landing ended up with just a single member surviving or no one at all. Be it the targaryen, baratheon,Tyrell, lanisters
yeah obviously... the house doesn't stop ruling the iron throne until they're all dead or have been conquered, which usually results in most of their deaths. It's not the same because the longest harrenhal was ruled for was about 70 years but the Targaryens ruled for over 300. The iron thrones is also very sought after as it literally rules everything but harrenhal is just another castle.

I wonder what Littlefinger will do with Harrenhal. Maybe nothing, and it'll become a haunt for brigands and such. Or maybe he'll have it torn down. A massive task, but probably the best thing to do overall.

The castle belongs to the Starks now by right. Arya killed Petyr and it belonged to her grandmothers house. Their First Men blood and greenseer/warg magic can handle it. Bran can vanquish any lingering and unwanted guests he sees as Three Eyed Raven. Starks are hard to eradicate; ask the Night King and the Lannisters.
debra jenkins That makes sense, because House Stark is doomed. All the male heirs are dead. According to Sansa, Bran can't have kids. And even if he could, he claims he isn't "Brandon Stark" anymore.

Game of Thrones/ASOIAF likes to dabble in the idea that blood and fire and sacrifices conjure great magic. I think the curse is real, after Aegon roasted it, the kind of shit energy that Harren and his family had pretty much gave it a horrible curse.

Don't forget about the other holders of Harrenhal. Amory Lorch is eaten alive by a bear. Vargo Hoat is slowly dismembered by the Mountain and then killed, Ser Gregor Clegane dies slowly and painfully from a poison, Tywin Lannister is shot by his own son, and I'm sure Roose Bolton will die soon in TWOW either executed by the One True King or killed by Ramsay.

There was good reason for Gargon Qoherys to be hated, he practiced the “lords night”. He would often find out about weddings and show up to deflower the bride, until he deflowered a maiden daughter of one of his servants who would open the sally port for harren the red.

Well if we go by the show, we saw what Danerys' dragon (Drogon) did to stone when she attacked Kings Landing. It demolished stone. It's still canon, even if we do DESPISE Dan & Dave now.

I think it was united (at least most of it) under the Justman dynasty's rule but I don't remember if they styled themselves as kings of the Riverlands.

In the books the curse seems more real because everyone who holds it during the war of 5 kings meets a sorry end, including a lot of the staff.
Sansa asks Littlefinger- if we need to leave the Vale, would we go there. He laughs it off citing how active the curse has been and unappealing the castle, he only needed the title. They then joke about giving it to the Frays or Cerci.
In book this is Martin enjoying the string of deaths connected to the castle. It would be confusing if the curse started affecting legal owners rather than people who stayed and had possession of the castle.
However, Littlefinger is playing a dangerous game and is likely to die at some point, so although it wouldn't quite fit the pattern, Harrenhall will likely get some blame

I dont think the targaryens burnt the castle the on the harren moved. I believe they arrived in Westeros on the day they moved in
They should just tear down the parts they don't need and use the material to improve the wall and main keep.
They can't build that advanced anymore, where we are in the story they are way behind where they were when they were building these huge castles. Storms End , Casterly Rock, The Wall , winterfell, they definitely would not be able to replicate any of these in the current story. Most of knowledge is lost.

I doubt it. Haren had pretty much put everything he had into building Harenhall. He would have had the same problems garrisoning and supporting such a huge castle as everyone else who has had the misfortune of owning it. And Riverlands hated Haren for taking all their riches to build his huge castle. They were on the edge of rebellion when the dragons came. And while the Ironborn did well in the Riverlands where they can attack from their longboats aren’t very good at land combat. The Boultons drove them out of the North without much difficulty.
After Littlefingure House Frankenstein will take over.
So Harrenhal was never repaired even though the complex was inhabited by later Houses? Seems kinda odd. When Littlefinger was given Harrenhal for his diplomatic efforts to merge House Baratheon which by then had effectively become an extension of House Lannister and House Tyrell he became the Lord Paramount of the Riverlands. A Lord Paramount required a capital to administer the region yet he was keen on wisely staying the hell away from the ruins of Harrenhal. So what did he have in mind to serve as his capital. I know Littlefinger married Lysa Arryn who had fled to Eyrie in season one after murdering her husband John Arryn who was Hand to King Robert Baratheon. In Season 4 Littlefinger orchestrates the poisoning of King Geoffrey at his wedding to Margaery of House Tyrell who run The Reach and extracts Sansa Stark in the process. What was Littlefinger's plans beyond the death of Lysa Arryn? How was he planning on ruling The Riverlands and from where? 🤔
its too vast to completely repair all of it. a place that can garrison a million men in medieval times is gigantic basically an entire city.
he was moving to manipulate Sweetrobin (who he believes will die due to being sick) by making the boy his ward, and rule from the Eyrie for the moment from what was in the most recent book
