  • Supraorbital Pain Neuralgia (SON) is common especially with patients who has Thyroid Eye Disease (TED). It’s a pain referred to up to the top of the eye socket. It can be behind the eye, over the brow, or the top of the head. Often mistaken as migraine that doesn’t go away with oral medication.
We have seen and managed thousands of TED patients, and we have injected their SON. This video will teach you how to do it on yourself or someone you know who is suffering from SON.
Local injections (Lidocaine and Bupivicaine) can be therapeutic as well as diagnostic. Pain after the shots can disappear quickly and last up to a month. Sometimes, the duration is shorter, and pain will recur after a day. Then this is good for diagnostic purposes to know what the source of the pain is. Headache from SON is treated differently than migraine.

What I believe to have is a Supraorbital never that branches out into my eyebrow. I lucky don’t feel pain just pressure time to time but what’s affects me the most is that it pop out and is even noticeable when I don’t make expression. I try not to make many eyebrow movements to avoid it showing. Can you confirm that is what I have so I can look into getting it healed.

It won't be your nerve, it could be the artery or the vein. The way to tell the difference would be through ultrasound.

Vision change is not usually associated with supraorbital neuralgia. If the vision change is happening before the pain, then you might actually be having a classical migraine. You should discuss this with your neurologist. There are permanent treatments for supraorbital neuralgia, and depending on your situation, your physician can make appropriate recommendations.

Any type of headache may tend to precipitate migraines. For example, someone who gets tension headaches may find that their tension headache tends to lead to a migraine. Headaches can be multifactorial, and it is important to tease out the different kinds of headaches.
