According to senior journalist and 2021 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Ressa, this trend is not a coincidence. She believes that leaders in information technology must be held accountable because the exploitation of lies, hatred, and shallow thinking on social media is at the core of today's democratic crises.
Maria is the founder of Rappler, an independent news channel established in 2012 in the Philippines to champion press freedom as a cornerstone of democracy. Among her notable works are "How to Stand Up to a Dictator: The Fight for Our Future" (2022), "From Bin Laden to Facebook: 10 Days of Abduction, 10 Years of Terrorism" (2013), and "Seeds of Terror: An Eyewitness Account of Al-Qaeda's Newest Center" (2003).

Globalisasi,informasi,platform yang membuat distrupsi,semua itu hal yang klise untuk ditolak seperti zaman dulu orang terbiasa ga ada lampu biasa saja, beda sama generasi yang diawal hidupnya udah terbiasa ada lampu agak kurang biasa kalau ga ada lampu. Kedewasaan dan kesadaran mengenai berbagai isu itu yang sangat penting harus sudah terdidik sadar oleh anak anak sekolah dasar, apalagi peran orangtua untuk anaknya mengenai hal itu sangat penting, minimal ada pendewasaan dan kedewasaan bagi pelajar misalnya dalam menggunakan platform media sosial yang dimana platform tsb sangat rawan terjadinya informasi dan algoritma yg sifatnya manipulatif dan proganda.

This guest really adhere to western ways of thinking, flow of information always has been manipulated since beginning of information spreading by human, yes with each era the speed of flow are increasing exponentially but the manipulation of it more or less the same. Everyone knows that those flow are need to be controlled, for a while western ways are more subtle and transparent so they sanctimonious lecture others about it yet as we know now it backfired tremendously. The guest thought, as most western thinker did, that individualism is the key to democracy so it fall on govt to protect it but failed to address the irony, that by then if govt control all information then individualism doesn’t even matter anymore;using democracy as a tool to control by pacified population that is the same way as authoritarianism. “Control” comes from understanding the flow, recognizing the source and show(with acts not word) responsible ways to address and vehement realization you can’t control the information, by law or by algorithm. Those who spread lies would feel the impact of the lies, those spread facts know that it will come out sooner or later, this is the ways humanity stay informed from the beginning of time, just because western style narrative losing it doesn’t mean the end of the world. Journalists now has their duty more true to its name, rather than to inform masses of chosen narratives now it needs to be journaling the facts that they know into cohesive, responsible and blatantly narration as possible.
