The ar-152 is seriously underrated. The extremely high capacity battery, strong tx power and sensitive rx, this is excellent for a wilderness/rural hiking/camping radio. The speaker is also on par with Motorola- bassy and loud with no distortion. Refreshing to listen to actually, unlike the much smaller uv-5r hissy and "tinny" sounding speaker. I like larger radios.. If you're wearing gloves. I loved the HTX-202's size and this reminds me of that. So far, lots of testing and it exceeded my expectations. This is nothing to do with pretending to have a Harris. This is just what it is. It's a great tool for what I needed. Period. The stock antenna is awesome too. Don't need a Nagoya.
It is unfortunate that all those Baofeng models are derivatives of the original UV-5R. In the early days, Baofeng also released the UV-B5 radio which is not following this pattern. Some people guess that it is not really designed by Baofeng but is an externally designed type made in license. This radio has a completely different user interface than the UV-5R. It has a rotary dial to change frequence, and a better display. But most important: its receiver performance is much better. You can actually connect a roof-mounted antenna to it and still receive things, while the UV-5R will just be blown away and desensed by strong signals outside the band. It is probably not economically interesting for Baofeng to produce derived products based on the UV-B5, but when you want a better handy it is certainly one to consider. Maybe you should get one and compare it to the other types, especially when standing near to a transmitter site.

M3 is the original Foundation class in the UK and works very well for QRP and low power VHF/UHF users. There are plenty of M3 operators who have decided not to move to other licenses. So, what do you really mean?
In some ways your missing the point, the AR152 was aimed at the milsim airsoft market, even with its hefty price tag, it is still much cheaper than a genuine Harris or similar. The uv9r pro seems a waste of space, it is probably no more weather proof than a 5r, and requires different programming cables and accessories meaning spending more money for no advantage.
The XPR accessory connector is miles better than the two-pin Kenwood connector. That alone is worth it if you plan to use a speaker mic or other audio accessory.
@@Porty1119 Yes, agreed. But are the multi contact accessories compatible ? The Baofeng 152 is def overpriced for what you get. Hopefully the price will decrease with time.

Yes, but they aren't available for civilian purchase... 😞 The REAL version of the "military" Baofeng - the Harris Falcon PRC152. There's an improved version of the Baofeng, by Triumph Instrument - a very keen knock off of the military PRC - even down to the all aluminum casing, VHF, UHF, and low band (10m?) - on ebay for $300-400 USD. I picked up a Baofeng BF H-5 that advertises at 10 watts. I don't have any way to precisely test, but with US made Smiley Antenna I'm getting great range equal to my Icom V-86. I wanted to get the UHF version U-86, but it's only available in the Philippines and Vietnam. Go figure...
No such frequency range in this form factor and size at all. At most there are radios that cover 50 MHz (VX-5/7/8 series) to 440 MHz, and that's not continuous. But nothing down to 27 MHz.
@@OFFTAPnz I had a VX6R and from the factory only Tx's (US version) 144-148mhz, 430-450, and 220-224. Modified it will Tx 48-54mhz. It could Rx a wide spectrum from AM only Shortwave up to 930mhz FM. I really wasn't very happy with it for a few reasons and sold it. The battery life was totally insufficient, 6 hours at best. It wasn't replacement antenna friendly, and used the operator as a "ground". If you didn't hold it, it's reception suffered. . The Harris Falcon PRC152 had the coverage the gentleman was asking about, 30-225, 225-520, 760-870mhz... Several Modes AM, FM, Satellite, SINCGARS, and APCO P25. This includes VHF AM & UHF AM Civil & Mil Air. Weight - 3 pounds. The product brochure is public, but the radio is not. Though I'm sure with the right amount of cash ... Thales is another company that has a couple of Portables similar to the Harris Falcon. It would be awesome if there WAS a civilian version minus the military bells and whistles for the likes of us, and that was affordable - under $1,000 USD.
That radio is junk!! I bought one off Amazon and the radio is deaf(didn't receive good) compared to me 5x3 Btech. I even had a Comet sma24J antenna on it with a stock antenna on the Btech!! Besides the green isn't Army green, its baby S*** green!!! I sent it back!
When radios like this (and other cheap radios e.g. the miniature mobile dualbanders) are deaf it normally is becasue there are strong local signals near the amateur bands that completely desense the frontend. Remember there is no filtering in these radios, there is a direct conversion to (almost) DC followed by a pair of A/D converters (I/Q) and SDR logic to demodulate FM. When the dynamic range of the A/D converters is exceeded because of a strong signal within ~10 MHz they receive nothing on the tuned frequency. So the issue is not "is the antenna good enough" but "is the antenna not too good".
Take a look at the Triumph Instrument PRC 152. It's a bastard twin of the real Harris Falcon, right down to the Aluminum casing, display, keypad... It is advertised to have VHF low (10/11m) coverage and I saw one advert that claimed VHF AM civil air RX. They are now showing up on American Ebay, Shipped from the States. Prices range from $270 & $20 S&H to $350 free S&H "thereabouts". The real Harris Falcon weights 3 pounds. The Triumph is probably close to that. ... I have one of the "new" Baofeng BF H-5s that has the lines of the Motorola Saber. Advertised as 10 watts. I've got no way to precisely measure. But with the U.S. made Smiley Antenna (I can't praise those enough) I can cleanly hit the same repeaters with it that my 7 watt Icom V-86 can. I don't know anyone who works for Smiley Antenna, don't get any "discount", but they make after market HT antennas. Single band only, and cut to a specific part of the VHF a UHF bands i.e. the "150" version covers 145-155mhz etc. They actually have GAIN ! U S. pricing is $20-22, Shipping is like $10. They come with interchangeable bases SMA F, SMA M, SMA Vertex, SMA Motorola, BNC, TNC, the Icom & Motorola commercial . They offer regular and stubby sizes
Well, I 've got news for you: Don't buy the UV-9R pro (shown in here)! There is a problem with its battery connecting mechanism which is loose and fidgety and when pressed on its upper left corner makes the radio restart!! I've posted a video on this problem so I can get a refund, please watch it to understand.
Also some of the newest baofengs don't have the FM Radio function because of the global chip shortage! They will say something that doesn't make sense like "Note: In order to comply with laws regulations, Baofeng company will upgrade 9R series walkie-talkies without FM radio function from January 1st, 2022." ruclips.net/video/QwgonYApKME/видео.html
@@iainmeteorscan1555- from what I understand the harmonics are out of spec so they are illegal to use. That’s why they are so cheap. Among other reasons. They would be great for listening and getting started in HAM radio!
No way! My ar152 is bullet proof, stops all interference and broadcasts from 5khz to 16ghz with SWR of 1:1 at 50 watts. I can even pull the antenna and becomes a hand grenade. 🤣 Where did you find yours?
FYI, Bao-Feng make radio-control toys, which is how I intercept with them. I would not recommend any Bao-Feng product, as seemingly they are a only a more popular third-party IP-ripoff company. Quality is exactly as to be expected from a Chinese company "trying" to put on a legit front. (ie; It "works")
Could you maybe do a video of the practical purposes. I realize communication during what I clearly call the end times is important but how does it fit in? Who would i listen to that might provide useful info as appose to more propaganda? Just Hams?
I'd say none of them are worth it, really. I'd rather have a UV-82, that has dual PTT, has extended battery available and uses the standard Kenwood connection. The 152, if anything, should have a huge battery life.
the UV5R is forbidden to dispribute in the US since a while and at least in Germany to operate after 24th of November 2021... so the UV9 might be an alternative.

Is baofeng UV 13 and UV 16 better than UV5R?
For Military purpose there is the look not important! Has to be rugged, encrypted, and relaible!
Any recommended radios for around 200 bucks?
What are the models they make that use a dial to adjust channels Instead of pressing up and down buttons for channel changes??
Nice, but! does it have uhf/vhf wide band RX (air/marine/pmr) ? does any baofeng for that matter, otherwise i'll stick to my yaesu ;) which is DC to over 1Ghz rx
No, but the Senhaix 8600 and 8800s have

It's just a "militaristic" styled/cased general production Baofeng. VHF & UHF FM only. You can Rx the FM VHF Marine, MURS & UHF PMR/FRS/GMRS. I don't know if it TXs out of the Amateur bands ? If it doesn't, it's not of use to me. I think it RXs the FM Broadcast band c
I can tell you right now you cannot be sitting in a car using a radio The Roof of the car will interfere with the Radio Always step outside before you do a test .

Hey buddy, what sort of wattage am I looking at to totally stop people from talking when I am mic down?
At least 1,000
@@OFFTAPnz 1k transmitters seem expensive/scarce ? I'm asking because there is a drunk fella here in Australia who constantly holds his mic down or plays audio recordings when him and another geezer get into arguments and the whole channel is locked down.
@@adamarzo559 That is illegal and unethical. Call your communications regulator or go find this guy and drop his HT in the toilet.
I am having issues with this radio communicating with other radios on the same band. Is there some kind of encryption feature I may have enabled (or came on by default?)
Could be ctcss or dcs tone
Good Video thanks Lewis strange choice of mic connection/programming cable ditto very much doubt really ip68 lol but at that price not a great loss if gets damp 73 M0MBV
Do these pick up cb radio
Not in the US. It is a VHF/UHF-FM transceiver and CB in the states is HF (26/27MHz AM/SSB/FM). Not sure about UK and EU though.
I'll be buying one of these when I can find where I can get one from. I'll get the AR-152 just for the look of it if the price ever comes down enough.

Hey can you guys use help me? Got UV-9R Pro (8 watt version supposedly) on route from China. First radio, pretty excited, but don't know nothing.
What profile did you use in Chirp to program? Don't see the Pro as officially supported, but will try similar models I'm guessing? Or I'll just learn to program manually? Thank you for your video and the opportunity to ask this.
the UV5R selection should work, you can program everything but repeater tones without software
@@ChristisKing7749 Thank you. Received and got them up online friday thru chirp as the uv-9r like you said. Went down a rabbit hole learning marine gmrs frs and murs. But programming was pretty easy.
@@TristanLinehan hey did you test the radio to communicate? Is the receiving audio good?

Don't Buy The Baofeng AR-152 Military Radio unless you serve in Chinese army.
I have the uv9r and it's not anywhere near waterproof. Advertised as such, but has condensation inside the screen after just a light shower of rain.
Hello i would like to ask regarding this uv9rpro rx, i heard some ham said the rx of this radio is poor? Is it true? What's your opinion regarding rx or audio receiving with uv9r pro? Hope you will answer my question because i already purchased but still waiting for the delivery
Did you see the article on RUSI about Russia's use of Chinese radios in Ukraine? "Russian Comms in Ukraine: A World of Hertz"
I've seen several pics of the Ukraine army carrying Baofeng's that appears to be UV-5Rs
Yes! Handheld VHF/UHF SDR !
An M3 now? How was the path for the much desired M3 ?
What??
M3 is the original Foundation class in the UK and works very well for QRP and low power VHF/UHF users. There are plenty of M3 operators who have decided not to move to other licenses.
So, what do you really mean?
I think you can still request M3 & M6 calls by post. I heard a kid with her grandad on HF, who got her dad's old M6 callsign (after I got my M7).
@@dazednconfused31337 That's really cool. M7TUD.
I practically said all of that…
The XPR accessory connector is miles better than the two-pin Kenwood connector. That alone is worth it if you plan to use a speaker mic or other audio accessory.
@@Porty1119 Yes, agreed. But are the multi contact accessories compatible ? The Baofeng 152 is def overpriced for what you get. Hopefully the price will decrease with time.
There is supposedly a bowfing UV5R that does DMR and can be programmed straight from the keypad to access DMR systems
And talkgroups
Have you seen this radio and can you do a video about them and how they work and if you actually can program it to access a DMR system ?
I remember this product coming out a while back and I believe it would not support dual time slots. When transmitting on a DMR repeater it would TX on both Time Slot 1 and Time Slot 2 at the same time. That has been a while back so they may have come out with a new one that I hadn't heard of yet.
wan a radio look like military one ? uv5r+ extended battery +folding antena did the job done :'v
Nice radio set model Number
Hello
What Baofeng PMR466 is good and hold up to the regulations please?
It could be similar to the Retevis RT27 or Dosen't Matter for me so much but I would like to have some with the bigger antennas that can be programmd with a Tidradio bluetooth programmer or similar please. 🤗
Almost bought one of those because a old man i know was one but as it turns out it's gar-bage.
did some research and bought the Radioddity GA-510 and i'm very happy with it.
tca 152 is my radio
Baofeng is very good radio military .i have a 7 radio baofeng deferent military ..very secretary call by this radios
After you get a Yaesu FT-60R, you will throw away these chinese toys.
Don't be an elitist.. These things have their purpose. I have a Yaesu as well, but I will be adding a few of these to my bag to program FRS/GMRS/Color Dot/Etc. so I can talk to my non-ham family and friends while hiking/camping/roadtripping and the like. As a ham, I do agree that this would not be my primary HT radio, but it's fine as a low cost backup or as radio to hand out to non-hams on the fly.
@@handyhomefixer2025 I'm referring to the Receiver quality, good brands have a more sensitive receiver and a better selectivity. Today, the good brand HTs are costing close to a chinese.
@@handyhomefixer2025... What is Color Dot? Oh yeah, the MURS band.
5 FM channels 151.820, 151.880, 151 940 MHz, 154.570 and 154.600 MHz.
No license required.
2 watts maximum but you can use high gain antennas unlike FRS.
Interesting review - thank you👍😊
Am I asking too much by looking for a hand held that does all that this does, plus AM/FM CB channels and possibly act as an aviation scanner etc? Does such transceiver exist?🤔🤔😇🤔🤔
@@nine7295 there’s the yaesu vx-6r
This includes VHF AM & UHF AM Civil & Mil
Air.
Meh. I can just walk into my lab and use the real thing - AN/PRC-152A radios.
Cool 😊😷
They offer regular and stubby sizes
its too late
Well, I 've got news for you: Don't buy the UV-9R pro (shown in here)!
There is a problem with its battery connecting mechanism which is loose and fidgety and when pressed on its upper left corner makes the radio restart!! I've posted a video on this problem so I can get a refund, please watch it to understand.
Also some of the newest baofengs don't have the FM Radio function because of the global chip shortage! They will say something that doesn't make sense like "Note: In order to comply with laws regulations, Baofeng company will upgrade 9R series walkie-talkies without FM radio function from January 1st, 2022."

Both are junk. Why would you want either??
@Mark Burns: Hi Mark. At £20 for the UV-5R would be a good answer! I use mine most days with very satisfactory results.
Where did you find yours?
That is some William Wallace rumor talk there! Hand Grenade!!!!
Does it make coffee & forecast the weather too ? 😆

wow
As seen on Russian soldiers 😁
FYI, Bao-Feng make radio-control toys, which is how I intercept with them. I would not recommend any Bao-Feng product, as seemingly they are a only a more popular third-party IP-ripoff company. Could you maybe do a video of the practical purposes. I realize communication during what I clearly call the end times is important but how does it fit in? Who would i listen to that might provide useful info as appose to more propaganda? Just Hams?
Uv9r pro
I'd say none of them are worth it, really. I'd rather have a UV-82, that has dual PTT, has extended battery available and uses the standard Kenwood connection.
The 152, if anything, should have a huge battery life.
the UV5R is forbidden to dispribute in the US since a while and at least in Germany to operate after 24th of November 2021... so the UV9 might be an alternative.
just bought one in the US from a national dealer, and yes it transmits out of the ham bands
The AR-152 is an overpriced piece of junk. It's nothing but a UV5R in a different case. Very appealing to the wannabe keyboard commandos though.
son muy malo estos equipos!!!
harris clone
Baofeng is much better. Is cheap and good working. Because of USA not all world is full of reach people... so they must save money.
Worthless
The radio? Or your comment?
I wouldn't touch a Baofeng again ever, I certainly wouldn't leave one on charge unattended as my first and only one blew up. You got a Ham licence, get an an Alinco or Yaesu. 2e0deq.
@2e0deq: Hi there. Do you have something against Kenwood and Icom, then?!
I don't really like the cartoonish look of the newer Baofeng/Quansheng's, etc. I still like my radios to look more functional than stylish. No K-1 port is a no go as well.
Uv9r real output power?
Motorola radios are just like their cell phones - a nightmare to use and program....
