- Will our cheap Audi S8 start with just a new battery?? Today we investigate this mysterious "mechanical damage" and find some answers! This rare 2001 V8 Audi S8 was buy far the cheapest in the USA when we bought it at salvage auction as a non running vehicle for the price of parts. It was cheaper than our 2001 Mercedes S600 V12 which we paid $850 for. Will this simple $130 battery replacement solve our problems??

There is ECON button pressed during AC test, you have to de-activate that button if you want the AC work properly. Cheers🙂🙂

It’ll stay lit up red and go right back to it if there’s a fault in the system to not ruin anything. Low refrigerant, etc.

This is amazing, I just bought a 2002 S8 project myself (for twice as much, still a great deal, the lower bumper grilles are worth a few hundred bucks alone) and now there's this on the channel! The pearl white is a rare color in Europe, too and it generally seems to be in good condition. The engines are usually not a problem btw, it's the 5-speed tiptronic that blows up sooner or later, and you won't know what condition that is in until youve read the codes or gone on a longer drive. Obviously that's where the risk it, it would total the car unless you want to invest the 3 grand or so for a rebuilt one, which might be worth it with this one. Also pls no straight pipes...

That had to be the fork lift that damaged the rad...it would have been bone dry if old damage. Those co part guys just don't give a f"&% !

Nah. I think the owner hit some kerb or some sort of divider on the road. That messed up the bumper and broke maybe a couple of radiator pipes.

That gen 4.2 doesn’t have a timing chain. It’s a timing belt and as long as you change it it will run forever
I have an audi s6 avant 4.2! And i replaced timing belt and cam chain tensioner around 140,000 miles might want to look in to it. O yeah it needs straight pipes
That's usually the first thing you do when you buy a car.... change that thing because you never know if the previous owner did it or not .... My Audi A4 2.8 V6 I thought it went at 70,000 miles and got the timing belt change.... And then I changed it again when it had a hundred and seventy thousand miles...

I just lost my beautiful 1999 S8 to a National recall on the Takata airbag. Audi bought the car back from me. I hope that the rad is your only issue, I spent a small fortune keeping mine on the road. my buddy had a s4 with the same 4.2L v8 it sounds amazing straight piped do it for sure
AC Cooling on the right only means low R134a, it has 2 evaporators and runs out of liquid on the right leaving none for the left. Also the TransGo valve mod will keep the trans from blowing itself up. Great cars, I have a 2001 and 2003.

the trunk is not confusing and is actually pretty easy and well made to open. you unlock it with the key, take the key out and just press on the lock. when you unlock the car with the remote u just press the lock button to open

The AC will function with use. It's because it's been standing for a long time without use. So soon it will blow cold also in the other went. You also need to have filled the radiator. So it will soon be working as it should just turn the vent off until it is in OK.
Use toothpaste to polish the faded front lights, they will be like new. You may even be able to weld the radiator.
The car is all aluminum, built on Audi Space Frame. So it will not rust. Such great cars. I have driven them for 20 years. They are extremely solid low maintenance cars. Even the gearbox is amazing. My first car drove 385.000 kilometers (240.000 miles) before I sold it off, still on the road. Fantastic quick and agile cars!!! Probably the best and most solid cars ever built, in my opinion, since it hasn't got all the electronic of the newer cars.

If the other AC vent still doesn't work it's a common problem on Hondas ar least that the blend door actuator gets stuck. What we did to fix it was put the AC on full cold then full hot then full cold again quickly and it worked for us.

Get the intake and exhaust ported and polished, plus a bit of tuning to fuel and timing, and it won't just be loud ;)

My 97 E420 has factory xenons too😋 My 2 cents: tint,cat and resonator delete and a magnaflow muffler,polish or replace the headlights and that's about it for starters😎
Just fix the problems that the car has and leave it like it is it’s too nice for you guys to do that.

From personal experience, the AC rads are swappable but the S8 has an additional outlet on the coolant rad, so the stock A8 one is not a direct swap.
Needs a full detail and sort they headlights out they need some loving,

They dont have timing belt issues or timing chain issues. They Have timing chain tensioner issues but very easy to diagnose and replace.
The biggest issue with these cars is the gearbox that has a rating lower than the output of the engine.

ı think the radiator can be repaired with "flex paste" or kind of water resistant adhesives. It is not maybe a best option but absolutely quick option

REPLACE ALL THE COOLANT HOSES TO THE RESERVOIR AND HEATER CORE. I had one as well and these thing will burst once you get good pressure in the coolant system again.
