- My name is John Oppenheimer. I have 400 Hours in Fallout New Vegas, and I have planned a character build that will increasingly break the game. We will become Death, destroyer of worlds.

Fallout New Vegas is one of my all time favourite games, and I'm so excited to present the game like this. I've planned my character build in depth with the goal of pushing the power of my build increasingly to its limit as time progresses. The plan is to complete all DLC, and pick up increasingly powerful items and perks that will help us throughout the game.

After watching HBomberguy talk about the dangers of the Cazzadors and the Deathclaws, it’s so funny seeing RT go “this sign can’t stop me as I can’t read” only to get thoroughly curbstomped.
god.... i remember going into this completely blind. my next playthrough, when characters told me there was a safer route to go along i LISTENED
and i know Dan watches Harry, too, so this adds a "this video essay can't stop me" layer to the whole thing.

I love how this proves Hbomb's point, in that you technically can just get to New Vegas right away if you're skilled enough to get through the stupid powerful enemies in your way

To get the full context, he was in the vault hiding from death claws for nearly an hour and it took him nearly 3-4 hours to get to new Vegas and the implant store at all
How out of order is the video? Because ED-E is with him at 24:00 but at 31:00 he hasn't repaired him yet. The Oppenheimer-RT continuity confuses me.

you know, sometimes I forget that Dan is ACTUALLY GOOD AT GAMES. watching him play this is insanity.
Yeah, he's actually cracked. But we're so used to him doing stupid things that when he actually does good we get flashbanged.
Dan has poor reaction timing, but cracked observation and persistence. Stuff like Until Dawn and Dark Souls shows he can catch onto patterns and work his way through there.
TBF this is the first game I have seen where he has a good showing
more like he's played way too much of FNV, not to say it's the wrong thing to do.
To me, he will forever be the lost at first gym guy.

there's nothing more ominous than watching someone play fallout, have some trouble with an NPC and immediately seeing the word "quicksaving..." pop up in the top left
The brotherhood squad about to execute me when I exit the bunker when I just ignore them and fast travel elsewhere until I can pass the speech check
In that instant, you know one of 3 things is about to happen:
1, a dialogue check is about to be save-scummed (more difficult in New Vegas, but still possible by reloading an older save to use some consumable skill books);
2, something is getting pickpocketed/stolen;
or 3, "so then I started blastin'."

The Great War happened in 2077, so we have about 50 years. Given things, this is a pretty optimistic estimate.

41:19 the best part with this interaction is the other way to get it is very low Intelligence. The Courier just spouts out "Ice Cream", ostensibly because he thinks the robot looks like an ice cream cone. This works.
With Luck 10 I cashed out all the casinos in the game, and I don't even know how to play blackjack
When you have 10 Luck, the game literally just plays it for you.

Theres something so wholesome about Dan taking all of these people who have finally been exposed to his favorite franchise and showing it off like a dad sharing his favorite passion with their child. For me, it was my dad introducing me to games, primarily with Crash Bandicoot and Spyro on the Ps1.
I mean we DO call him Dad and this is one of the reasons why. His pokemon gen 5 playthroughs exhibit this as well. Makes it so much more fun. Some of the other reasons are, and not limited to him... RPing a drunk, irresponsible father when the situation demands it, trying _really_ hard to learn new lingo, and using words like "fisticuffs" unironically.
New vegas was my dads favourite game he shared with me, giving me a lifetime love for it lmao. This video has the exact same energy with dan proudly showing exploits and all the fucking around you can do, he really is the most Dad he could be about it

Fun fact, if you have at least one Stealth Boy, you can actually raid the Van Graffs for all that they have; turns out they can't detect you at all if you're crouching with one as long as you already had a half-decent sneak skill, even if you're in plain sight. Found this out completely randomly when I thought dragging everything to the bathroom first was taking too long.
Also, I really love that as long as you have a Luck stat of above 8, you're virtually guaranteed to eventually bankrupt all of the Casinos by playing Blackjack...
eh; i end up just sneaking it all into the bathroom anyway, because for whatever reason if you stack them all into that place, quicksave, and then reload that save, all the guns you put into there will be at max durability
You don't even need any sneak skill because stealth boys will set it to 100

I had my first ever job interview Monday, and of course when Monday morning rolled around I was so panicked I could barely talk straight. Anyways in the spirit of not wanting to confront real life crap, I decided to boot up RUclips and binge watch some of your old series. I've never seen actual gameplay of FNV before, so seeing the opening cutscene with its character models from a direct-to-DVD looking 2005 budget Barbie film was a JUMPSCARE to say the least.

New Vegas is basically an EXTREMELY ambitious mod for Oblivion. they've done amazing work with the underlying engine, but, uh. it's still the underlying engine

The head of the deathclaw isn't the most vulnerble part but instead it's the belly as far as I know that's why your hits were so weak.
Fun fact about the Repconn 3rd Floor access; there are actually two ways to be safe from the bots. If you have Luck above 7, you guess the code is Ice Cream and its correct, which is what we see here. The second way is if your Intelligence is a 1, your character will scream ICE CREAM!!!, which just so happens to be the code.
“I just need to get this out of my system” sums up this entire playthrough.
the funniest “play both factions” option in my opinion is to play lonesome road and nuke your chosen faction before entering the strip purely so you can get the cool armour set from whichever faction boss you fight in the ensuing dungeon, then reset your rep and act like it never happened

Breaking the bank at a casino only to crash and have to do it all over again is peak New Vegas
For the people wanting to replay new vegas or fallout 3, know that Fallout Begin again exists that makes it so that you can play both fallout 3 and new vegas with the same character.
I thought that you could also do this with Tales of Two Wastlands

Let's goo! I actually made it into the video! I wasn't lying either. I have never played New Vegas. I have played 4 and part of 3, but never New Vegas (I want to). My timing was perfect, and it was actually entirely unintentional. I had literally just tuned into the stream when I said that. That is so stinking hilarious!!!

I have never seen that trick with the Skilled trait before. I think I'm gonna do that every run for as long as I can remember it.
You can grab Skilled 3 times, once during character creation, second by respecing when leaving Goodsprings, and third by respecing when leaving Big MT in Old World Blues. That's 15 free skill points for *every single skill.*

RtGame feels like the guy who’d genuinely be a menace in the apocalypse.
It's quite funny that before RT played New Vegas, he jebaited us by playing Fallout 3 but while re-experiencing the game again, it just made RT want to play New Vegas even more and I can't blame him!
Hope this timeless masterpiece gets some sort of remake/remaster in the future since there's been a lot of talks and rumors of a New Vegas remake 👀

yeah new vegas just kind of has that effect on people when they replay fallout 3 after previously playing new vegas, fallout 3 just kind of feels wrong and weird by comparison and then you get that itch to play new vegas again

@@skylofter6840 oh absolutely, fallout 4 has the best gunplay and power armor in the series without a doubt, and it's only tied with 76 due to 76 using the exact same systems, they also both have sprint which is nice, my issue with fallout 3 feeling worse is for a multitude of reasons, the story is less compelling, the choices feel more black and white, the lack of options and true rpg feel, the forced background for your character, the massive map that's mostly filled with empty space, and then there's the gunplay and perks, holy shit they suck, imagine if you couldn't use iron sights when holding right click and instead it just sort of zoomed in a little whenever you held it down, imagine if all your weapons and armor could break but instead of being able to repair them with less durable versions of themselves (10mm pistol with another 10mm pistol) or being able to repair a unique version of an item with only the basic variant, they could only be repaired by npcs who sell repairs for insane amounts of money instead of being able to just repair the item simply, also imagine if like 90% of the perks in the game just increased skill points, with only a few actually cool or unique ones, that's fallout 3, and i straight up cannot make it through that game because of how dated it feels

You can also take skilled twice for double the points but with the 10% xp loss of only taking it once

I always take skilled and good natured as traits. +10 to all non-combat is really useful. Then, you take explosives, sneak, and medicine, and you've basically got enough to pass most early game skill checks.

Fun fact, if you take skilled again when you click 'Rebuild character' you can get +10 to all your skills, though you do have to keep the exp debuff

I'm really excited to see this journey through till the END, cause I have been playing Fallout 4 constantly throughout the year! (Also, John Oppenheimer is the BEST name you could have picked for this adventure!)

the things i most remember about new vegas are watching a let's play of it by some guys over on something awful in like 2011, and that one video of the doctor's head casually spinning as he talks to you in the intro.
Charisma is forever my main stat, imma hide behind Boone and watch him murder you with 50% bonus damage
you know RT, if you get an anti material rifle and explosive bullets to boot, you can one shot adult death claws.
you just need to have the weapons requirements in stats, and the sneak attack bonus...... on top of a headshot.
You could also say that Fallout: New Vegas is a Flawless Masterpiece with no flaws whatsoever because it being a Bethesda game, you know that it just works.
I mean it's barely a Bethesda game tbf
@@apersonwhomayormaynotexist9868 a It’s using Bethesda’s game engine and a lot of the models are slightly tweaked 3 models (for example Easy Pete is Elder Lyons). Not saying this makes New Vegas a bad game, but its development time was about 18 months if I recall
Man, the amount of Fallout going on around me lately. My brother just finished his New Vegas stream among friends, we just finished the Fallout TV series, and now this. I'm trying to crawl out of the Fallout, baby, but RT's over here setting the world on fire with that Big Iron on his hip.

real talk though, could you imagine being Benny? Executing someone with a point-blank gunshot to the head and leaving them in a shallow grave, only for them to show up a couple weeks later, armored up and mad as hell? I don't care what your speech level is, if I'm Benny there's no way in hell I'd go into a room with you alone at that point, especially if all I had was a 9mm pistol.
Funny story about New Vegas:
My brother years ago gave me a Collectors Edition box for New Vegas on the PS3, including art book, chips, playing cards, etc. The only thing missing was the game itself, as my brother played it a bunch but then traded it in to CEX.
I never played a Fallout game but I always treasured the collector box I had, so one day when I was in CEX myself, I found a copy of New Vegas on PS3 for no more than £5 (iirc) and bought it, only so I could put the game in the collectors box to 'complete' it.
I never even opened the game case for New Vegas and to this day have never touched or played a Fallout game 😂 (until literally yesterday when I got a free copy of Fallout 76 from Prime Gaming)
I feel like this is less Oppenheimer and more Teddy Roosevelt’s “Speak Softly and Carry a Big Stick” Policy, but that’s just me being nitpicky.

tyranny sadly makes a bad stream game. stupidly well-designed story, though. most people never figure out there's four main pathways, and not two.

Classic New Vegas playthrough: Go Luck 9 and get banned from the Casinos. Don't forget to Nuke the NCR and the Legion then go shoot Benny so all your past crimes and transgressions against both factions are forgiven.
With deathclaws, it helps to open with a sneak attack on the legs to buy time as they limp toward you. Less effective on Hardcore as companions won't backpedal with you and their deaths are permanent, but still useful.
They should have had a casino you always loose in, even with your luck. Great sidequest
I have hundreds of hours in this game and never knew Vault 19 is a place you can go to. I always thought the Powder Gangers came from California!

I love how he repeatedly shot grenades about 20 feet away from himself and was amazed every time when he was hit by shrapnel
