'Incredible patients and generosity to see two of the biggest legends in MLB like "Koufax & Drysdale" sitting down for an albeit, amateur interview. They are still revered today, 50+ years after their careers ended. And this wasn't the only occasion that those two great and admired men were very generous with their time.
interview airing today Sept. 9th, coincidentally the anniversary of Koufax's perfect game against the Cubs in 1965. The only game in major league history that combined for only one hit and two base runners! Dodgers playing the same Cubs tonight at Dodger Stadium.
The actual Andy, the interviewer here. Great note that it is Cubs Dodgers tonight. Bob Hendley was the Cubs pitcher in Sandy's perfect game. Lone run was scored in an inning without a hit
Alonzo for the Mets hit a home run and he actually was blowing kisses to the opposing teams fans. I don’t have a tell you what would’ve happened to him his next at bat
75 year old here from the same area as Big D.. First time I saw the sidearm slinger in action was at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in 1959 when I was 10 and he was 24 years old..It was a Double Header game and after I waited at the tall chainlink gate with others to get autographs..Here comes tall Drysdale and he just brushes past everyone..Well so it goes..Maybe he lost the game or was in a rush to get back to his bar/restaurant in Van Nuys called the Dugout.. The Dodgers won the W.S. that year..In between the two games they had Skills contests..A two foot wide can facing Home plate on 2nd base was the target for the catchers throws..Amazing baseball and before that there was the Pacific Coast League as the 3rd major league in the west..Joe DiMaggio played for S.Fran..Los Angeles had two teams and I went to games in Wrigley Field in Downtown on Avalon blvd..Exact copy of Chicago stadium..I was 6 years old and I brought my glove..
Thank you for sharing these wonderful baseball memories of Big D. and Los Angeles. I had no idea the first Wrigley Field was not in Chicago! www.sfgate.com/la/article/wrigley-field-los-angeles-history-19371146.php
Thanks for this wonderful interview. Don Sutton is a huge reason I'm a 50+ year Dodger fan from outside Chicago. He befriended my dad and got us tickets for a good portion of the 1970's when the Dodgers came to Wrigley. It's great to hear his (and DD's) voice(s) again. And of course the great Sandy.
I'm so glad this interview brought back great memories. Thanks for sharing your story about Don Sutton. How did your dad and Don meet? They must have had a special connection. Don was a unique person and there was a lot more to him than most people knew.
@@amymcquillin5579 It was actually through Dodger Bill Singer. In 1969, my dad was in a class to get certified to be a stock broker. Bill was in the class also. They became friends. Bill and Don were great friends. So it actually was Bill first, and then after he got traded to the Angels, Don was our ticket connection. This went on for most of the 70's. I've been a Dodger fan ever since. I've even been to two Dodger Fantasy Camps when they were still held at Vero. Simply amazing!
@@robbarnes4744What a story. How fortunate that your dad met Bill and he and Don helped make you into a Dodger fan. And those Vero Fantasy Camps... What an experience! Thanks again for sharing your Dodger memories.
March 25, 1989 The day before Easter I was there, and I got Sandy Koufax to sign an autograph. I have a photo to prove it. I wish I still had the autograph, but I do still have the photo. He was wearing a road grey uniform. This interview is the day after Easter 1989, 2 days later. I attended the Easter Sunday game. John "T-Bone" Shelby signed a ball for me during the 5th inning of the Easter Sunday game in 1989. I had attended Game 1 of the 1988 World Series. I was 11 years old at the time. I'm turning 47 this year. I'd love to get Sandy Koufax to autograph the photo from March 25, 1989.
This is a True Treasure , Andy did a great interview it was very interesting , he was pleasurable , had great recall of events and statistics , you can tell they all were comfortable and enjoyed his interview. I couldn't get his last name , I wonder how his career turned out ? Are you the Amy behind the camera ? Thanks for posting ! This deserves thousands of likes and views.
@jackclubs6919 ~ So happy you enjoyed these rare interviews! We hope many more people discover them, too. It was a special time and the stars aligned to bring everyone together. Yes, I am the Amy behind the camera. I’ll let Andy chime in and tell you what he’s doing now. Thanks again for watching and for your comment!
Still remember someone telling Drysdale that Sandy Koufax threw a one hitter. With the Dodger's anemic hitting, Drysdale's response was classic - "Did he win?"
In Little League I tried to tried to copy 3 pitchers and one was Don. For some reason my Don's D pitches would sail into a batter high and so tight. RIP sir

Incredible indeed! Glad you enjoyed these informal interviews. Thanks for your comment.

I loved seeing all 3 interviewed but Koufax stands alone at the top.
Thank You for sharing this.
So glad you enjoyed the interviews -- and especially Sandy. 🙂
@@amymcquillin5579 Thanks again. I watched this maybe 3 times. A real gem.
@@victorblock3421 You're so welcome! Come back and watch anytime you need a dose of Dodger greats.
Three great interviews with three baseball legends. A pure unexpected treasure for an old baseball fan like myself. Thank you so much for them.
So happy to know you enjoyed these gems!

Look at the size of Koufax's hands! No wonder he threw one of the nastiest curves ever.
