I work from home so don’t have an everyday carry camera, but using my D2X a bit more is my main focus at the moment. Not what you’d call pocketable though and pancake lenses just look silly on it.

@@clonmult but fuji does have cheaper cameras like the x-t30 you can get. you don't have to get the more expensive ones. Plus the f 2.0 Fujicron lenses are priced better than similar MFT lenses from OM.
Just like olympus / OM SYSTEMS have expensive flagship models of camera bodies and lenses. You don't need to buy olympus' $4000 super telephoto lens do you?
Nintendo has more expensive models too like an OLED model.. which you could just get a switch lite if you want. The weather sealing is amazing. All you need to do is install any filter on the lens, and there is no need for a fuji kit. The built-in flash allows for creating images at ridiculous slow shutter speeds while creating a true vintage look. I have not run into any issues with focusing on the camera that you described. Could be that the newer version II lens focuses a bit differently than the older version I? Not sure but the X100F focuses very very quickly in most conditions. Reliable I would say. My Leica X1 however is VERY slow at getting critical focus, but once it does the details are stunning.

I had seen all the hype for this camera and it does look very good, I used to love just fitting a 50mm to the canon and taking that out so maybe this camera would be simular to that but I think overall need the option of lenses and I can't really afford to be spending the higher end buck anymore. What would be a good micro 4/3 with good lens options that's no more than mid priced? Any of you older videos you can point me to or models I should consider would be great. I have owned many cameras in my lifetime, from back in the days of film cameras, to the modern day digital ones too.
Ive owned expensive ones, such as the Leica M9 with a 35mm Leica lens, to what I have now… the X100V & and X-T5 but out of all the cameras I’ve owned (and that includes too many Fujifilm cameras and the odd few full framed cameras to name) the X100V has been; and still is, the best camera I have owned.
I just love the size and ease of use, the leaf shutter, and it just looks the part too all the while producing superb image quality for me… I predominantly use EVF over the OVF.
Yes, the autofocus can miss shots from time to time but you show me any camera that doesn’t miss a shot no matter how expensive it is.
Is it worth the hype, it most certainly is! Absolutely…!
It’s the first camera I will grab when going out to do street photography… and I have the X-T5 remember.
I was going to trade in the cameras I have/had to buy the Leica Q3 but I just could not part with the X100V I love it so much… Yes, I might eventually get the Q3 but that would mean finally selling all of my camera gear, or I might trade the X100V in for the VI because the VI is the V with stilts on, its as near as perfection as it can get with IBIS and the X-T5’s sensor and autofocus but that wouldn’t change my mind on what is a superb camera: the X100V.

Both the V and VI are going to be the perfect camera for some people, because they are phenomenal quality with a fantastic design philosophy.
That said: you will need to be okay with AF from last decade, because Fujifilm is doing a bit of a Leica in that department.
The V arrived right as Fujifilm AF was on the tail end of acceptable/reliable for many people, but the VI isn't significantly better 4 years later. You'll want it primarily for stabilisation and cropping.

I have the D-Lux 7 and it’s the camera I always reach for. Leica really missed the boat when it got the chance to upgrade the DL7, but instead they kept most of the innards and changed the skin to resemble a Q3 and make profit on the accessories it’s pushing. A huge disappointment, but we had warning when they added the A to the already existing DL7 registration number. A huge disappointment for many of us expecting 2024 tech in 2024, but getting 2017 tech instead… in a new skin.

In regards to the 35mm focal length. I grew up with my family using a Nikon 35AF as our camera, and it's really the only thing I had reference to until high school. In HS, I started using my dad's old SLR with a nifty-fifty. The 50 then felt more creative and deliberate, but I see everyday life as captured at 35.

@@ilmatanela1816 "You suppose that because evidently you don't have any exp.." Please. I have had Olympus since the 4/3rds e-330. You pick those lenses and at telephoto sure. But in a range of focals from a bit wide to just small telephoto, yes, you can find equivalents at this point. Of course, they could have avoided that but here we are.
You can get an X-T5 that is smaller than the OM-1, with small weather sealed primes that are pretty small, close the smaller primes in m43rds that Olympus has- except those aren't weather sealed.
You talk about computational things- what people is that a part of that is m43rds trying to catchup like hand held high res. You know who has hand held high rest? A fuji X-T5 with 40MP at several shots per second.
Fuji also has true RAW hand held HDR. My point is that a lot of the exclusivity has gone. (Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fuji also have pro-capture equivalents).
IBIS used to be such a quoted advantage, but not anymore.
If only we could get a modern updated OM-5 in an EM5.2 class body, even if priced much higher than the OM-5, and re-release the smaller primes in weather sealed form, now that would be something very unique.
But me not experience with Olympus equipment, please don't make me laugh. Maybe you don't have experience with other systems. I'll take better AF with 14-bit RAWS over some of the "computational" stuff that is so constrained (can't do HHHR with live ND right?), etc. I will agree it's better than nothing, but the basics done well to me are overall better.
Long telephoto lenses is where they still hold a clear advantage. Nikon's teaser for their upcoming Z6III is already telegraphing wildlife/birding. I really hope they realize that smaller body pro, would put the system in a better place, imho.

I think you summarize it best regarding the camera. If you happen to like it's specific niche, it's going to be a lovely camera. My two cameras growing up were point and shoot (one had a 28mm focal length, the other 38mm, can't remember which was 110 and which was 35mm film), and I do love a lot of what the X100 series offers. I know I liked how the X100F felt in hand, but it's definitely a premium cost for something that in the end is more of an experience, and I'm fine with that idea. But at $2,159 CAD brand new (with an unknown wait time to get it), there's a whole lot of other things available, and that price is BEFORE adding in the cost of a full conversion (I'd want to be able to also do infrared photography with it)... I could more readily get a used G9, send it off to be modified, and then pick up a lens or three that's been on my wishlist for some time.
It's one of those tough call kind of cameras. I've always wanted one, especially for it's "just take it out with you" versatility and my love of 35mm focal lengths (plus the viewfinder works with polarized sunglasses as of the fourth generation), but at the same time it's a rather tough sell to my "get the most out of your fun fund" brain. In all honesty, if I had to pick between an X100 (5 or 6th edition) or a few Olympus Pro lenses, I'd probably go the 40-150 f2.8 Pro plus a 45mm f1.2 Pro as they've both been on my wishlist for several years now.

Hi Emily, I personally own 4 Fujifilm bodies and about 75% of the lenses but I never wanted to own the X100 series. I'm simply not interested in fixed lenses if given the option so the X-T30II is gives me most of what the X100V offers, give and take a few things, so it's my street camera for every day. Nevertheless, this is your first Fujifilm review, right? Great to see!

Different stroked for folks or different camera bodies for different people. I am a street photographer and the X100 line is what I want. Don’t want that? As you suggest, Fuji has different bodies and lenses for YOUR needs.
I too have several Fuji bodies and lenses. I love Fuji products. The same is true for LUMIX bodies and lenses. I owned an EM5 and gifted it to a co-worker. A lovely body. Sturdy build. Great IBIS and vivid colors. This body is stupidly cheap. I also own an EMD1 Mii. It is even better and also stupidly cheap. To big to be an EDC though. A G9, also stupidly inexpensive, competitor.

I've had my eye on the X100 since the first version... Before I was even on M43. I think my judgement at this stage is basically that I'd either go for an older version to get an OVF digital camera for cheaper, or go all-in on the VI. The stabilization and resolution bump are pretty huge and it could really be your only camera. The V.... I feel like I'd rather stick M43. Given my different uses, I definitely see myself staying in a system, but I can totally see someone using the X100VI as their first camera and building a professional career using just it. And not just for now, for years to come.

I really wanted to love the Fuji mirrorless cameras, but I just couldn't. I've used a few of them now, and in all cases, I've found the menu system so convoluted that they become frustrating to use. Mostly though, I tend to shoot raw and I use lightroom, and that combination on a Fuji just doesn't work. The demosaic algorithm in Lightroom cannot cope with xtrans raw, and I rely on raw extensively.
With the XT2 and XT3, I don't mind being done with them... but that hybrid viewfinder is a work of art. I really wanted to love the platform, but it just didn't work for me.

I personally think all the x100 series of cameras are massively overhyped. It doesn't mean I think they are bad cameras because they are very good but there are many many options which are as good, if not better and far cheaper. People get sucked into the hype and convince themeselves they need one. If I was a Fuji user I'd look more along the XE options. As for a leaf shutter, who needs a leaf shutter when cameras have silent mode these days :)

Remember: X100VI has picked up the demand from the X100V, and the X100VI does have IBIS. On video- the camera has quite good video actually in terms of the video quality - so just another thing to consider.
On Autofocus- yes, the Camera software (and more so on the X100VI), the camera can operate faster than the lens mechanism. I wonder if Fuji will try to speed up the mechanism on the eventual X100VII in 4 years or so. Even so the X100VI is still a bit better than on the X100V.
Also you can weather seal both cameras, so you don't have to fear rain falling while on the street. Yes, you have to buy the filter adapter plus filter but it's not that much more and can be done, unlike many competitors. Finally you can buy two conversion lenses- one for 28mm (not so big), one for 50mm (kinda big). These extend the usefulness of the camera, as well as they extend what the crop modes can do on each.

I understand the mentality behind fixed prime cameras, but for me, the disadvantages far outweigh the supposed advantages. The number of shots I'd miss would be difficult to handle. Re recipes, I can get better film looks (and other adjustments as well) from RAWs with DxO (FilmPack and Nik). I just don't understand why anyone would want to point, shoot, and post. Editing RAWs is part of any "real" photographic process (the end result of which is a print) and time should never play a factor, only artistic vision. The "most sought-after" anything depends on a number of variables, but if I had to use only one camera, it would be the G9M2 (and the eight MFT lenses I currently have). It's my "everyday carry" (although walking the dogs can be a handful, so I generally take the FZ1000--easier to use one-handed and no lenses to change).

  • @brianb816
    @brianb816 24 дня назад

Definitely over-hyped. I am glad I sold my at a profit. I IS a good camera, don't get me wrong. But I think a lot of new users interested in photography don't realize that almost every camera currently out can do the same things as the x100 series. 35mm is such a common shooting style, and every photo I've seen from the camera can be reproduced by other cameras. Some cameras that are better, have better features, better focus, and better price. You quickly realize you are paying, sometimes up to $2k, for an optical viewfinder and styling.
And yeah, the reason I sold mine was because the focus was very dubious, many times I would get focus confirm, only for the static subject to be slightly out of focus.
I got a Sony a7R3, which is only "slightly" bigger, but has better focus, better battery, and interchangeable lenses. I am actually surprised more content creators aren't talking about it. 7 years later it still has so much to offer and at a great price. This camera was not worth the hype for me. Maybe if you never owned an x100 it would be probably nice. I upgraded to this 2 years ago from an x100s that I bought 10 years ago. There are some definite nice to haves but two things that make me not enjoy this camera have been the removal of the d-pad/wheel to a tiny little joystick nub and then the ISO being integrated into the shutter dial from the button you could push and scroll through. It has slowed me down on jobs and shooting for fun by a lot. I have to take my eyes away too much to mess with things. It's kind of stolen the joy out of this camera and I don't use it as much as I used my x100s.
The upgraded lens being sharper and better autofocus are great but I feel as I would have been happier with the X100F. But if I wanted to downgrade I would definitely miss out on that sharper lens.

Just curious, have you tried setting the ISO dial to C and then using the front dial to quickly set it ? I never use the subdial inside the shutter speed dial and it has made my life way easier.

@@thermalegoogle I have. Can it be locked? Because my issue with that was just brushing against it will change it. That was the nice thing about using the x100s that it was a least locked. Similar to how I used my 5Dmk2. I had to hit a button in order to mess with iso.

@@gabrielvillarreal3051 I’m not sure about that, I tend to change my iso all the time if I’m in manual mode. You could always lock the iso on the dedicated dial and have aperture and shutter speed automatic or on other dial you don’t brush as much. Either way it’s worth looking into the options if that can make you want to shoot that camera more !

It is well deserved beacuse of Fujifilm's marketing. The combination of influencer hype, artificial scarcity and post pandemic revenge vacations make this the ultimate FOMO camera. You are not cool until you shoot blurry jpegs with a plastic made in china Leica clone.

😂 that was fantastic. I've always found the scarcity a bit suspicious... like they know the V is stupidly popular, why not just make more of the new one to meet demand. I mean they managed to make that limited edition run that was individually numbered and extortionate

The x100v was made in japan. The x100vi, to supposedly increase capacity, is made in china. And yes, I was exaggerating about the plastic bit, its build quality is good for what it is.

Tick Tock “influencer” camera. Had the x100F. Good camera for sure but no better than the likes of an Olympus Pen and 17mm. The “film simulations” are just a gimmick

Total ripoff because of the hype. Not worth the asking prices especially on older models of the X100 series a total joke good for a laugh indeed. Doesen't offer anything more than other manufacturing models and it does have it's own glitches as well
