The announcer who is announcing the movies and says “you’re watching KCPQ, channel 13” is my father. He used to announce the 8:00 movies and do other voice work for channel 13 in the 80’s.
wow i remember seeing this on my floor model tv in my room mom fixed jsut for me boy thank you for showing this but on where i lived it was a lil ghosty and had a lot of static i actually liked the staticy sound.
They mentioned the Clover Park School District in the news report here. They were the previous owners (at the time of this clip) of KCPQ-TV, which reactivated it after purchasing the former KTVW in 1975; the district operated what would become KCPQ-TV (their callsign stands for C[lover] P[ark] Q[uality]) from 1976 to 1980 as a PBS member station.
The view looking up South 19th Street from Pacific Avenue in Tacoma (at 5:33) has sure changed in 30 years! You can even see a little bit of the long-gone Shaub-Ellison Co. building at far left. It's kind of ironic that the top story is about the Clover Park School District... former owners of KCPQ and they were still the landlord of the station's studio at this time.
