Chasing Amtrak's "Open Express" and ACWR's 87 Locomotive Bar

I got to chase the Open Express, Amtrak's special service to the US open. The equipment was provided by NCDOT and Aberdeen Carolina and Western hosted the station at Pinehurst No. 2. This is extremely rare mileage for the NCDOT equipment. While in Pinehurst, I also caught the ACWR Office Car Special, with their newest edition the No. 87 locomotive bar in tow. The 87 was created out of a former CSX AC6000 and I happened to catch up with it on their return trip to Pinehurst.

Interesting conversion of CSX AC6000CW 656 into AC&W locomotive bar car 87. This is a lot different than when she was new and leading intermodal trains!

How about AC&W restoring some of the AC6000CWs stored on their property as working units and paint them in their paint scheme? I would love it!

It would definitely be cool! I don’t know if they have the need for locomotives of that power though unfortunately.
