Great video. I've watched quite a few working NPs on RUclips and this one packs more analysis and good information into 12 minutes than multiple videos of some other folks I've started following. I'll definitely be going through the rest of your archives and checking out new content. Love the way you get into the details but keep the languange easy to understand. I'm so glad I waited to apply to PMHNP programs instead of just rushing in. After watching this, I have some additional criteria I hadn't even considered before. Honestly though, cost is a BIG consideration too. I'm in my 40's, have over 10 years of nursing experience (mostly in psych/substance abuse), a good amount of student loan debt (don't want more if I can avoid it), and 2 kids under 3 (started late).... So yeah, all of what you mention in this video, and if I can get through it without coming out of pocket more than $25K, even better.

@nolroc Thank you for watching and for your feedback. There is definitely a lot to consider, and in my opinion, worth the wait to tease out what is best.
Please feel free to hang around!
I wish you the best on your journey and I'd love to know what you come up with!

I heard a student say, we pay tens of thousands of dollars to write complex and time-consuming papers about nothing to do with our degree for years and years and then have four practicums on PMHNP-related topics then are expected to be an awesome PMHNP and go into the workforce. This summarizes a very real state of things but scares the willies out of me.

@Reb Par Thank you for watching and for your comment!
Unfortunately, there can be some truth to this. I always advise to choose and focus on practicum experiences which may be a better measure of application of information. It's also usually a good idea to pick the brain of previous students at a program to gauge their feeling of readiness to practice. All in all, there is still a learning curve for most, but there are programs that "prepare" you better than others.
Please keep me updated on the progress of your journey.
      Best,
      Camellia

What should I look for when reviewing Schools? What was your process?

@Rowenatrim2000 Thank you for watching and for your question. I used the process of first determining which schools offer PMHNP path, followed by narrowing down based on the questions/considerations mentioned in this video. NPschools.com is also a good resource to start. Please let me know what other questions come up along the way.

Also, you can also try to access student groups for Frontier on Facebook. Many have found that helpful to get answers to any questions you may have. Please keep me updated on your progress!

Hi there! I did not know about ANCC for boards for PMHNP I only thought seeing the logo CCNE was good enough because it’s accredited. I have been all over the school’s website I plan to attend and do not see ANCC! How scary. I wrote to my advisor and waiting for a response. I also went to the ANCC website to see if the school is listed there and I can not find how to look for schools. Help! I’m so scared now! Thank God I have not started any class and can back out. Feels like a scam! I wonder what are good reputable online PMHNP programs. Do you know of any? Thank you for your time.

@Hi1027 Thank you for watching! Yes, you want to be cautious. I'm glad you are doing your due diligence here. A few schools that I know of are: Univ of South Alabama, Vanderbilt University, Eastern Kentucky University. Npschools.com may also be a good resource. You can also join social media PMHNP groups such as Facebook and ask active students in various programs. I hope this helps. I'd love to hear what you come up with!

Thank you for your insight and knowledge. I have been accepted to a few schools for my MSN. Ultimately, I want to specialize in psych and mental health. It's my passion. One of the schools is in my state and is an accelerated course for MSN in leadership (8 months) and then I can do my post-cert for PMHNP and the other is Frontiers PMHNP. As an NP and having gone through courses, do you have any opinions about this? I don't want to waste time and money, but if the MSN leadership is beneficial, I wouldn't mind spending the extra time and money to have mymaster'ss while I work towards the PMHNP. Thanks!

@Levena Thanks for watching and for your comment!
I know it seems that this would be an easier decision, but ultimately it comes down to what you truly desire and your why. If you plan to utilize your degree in leadership, I will say this is a great path to eventually also get to psych. I would encourage you to also do your research (if you haven't already) on the quality of the programs that you have been accepted to. Ask questions to previous students, find out how clinical placements are assigned, board certification pass rate, etc.
Please reach out with further questions. You may also email me using the "About" section, if you'd like.
      I wish you the best,

      @CamelliaDThePsychNP  Год назад

@olu akande Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, I do not have much insight about this program. I would peruse the requirements/standards for admission and consider asking prior students about the program, for which PMHNP social media groups may be helpful. It may also be good to ask about pass rate of the certification exam. Please let me know what other questions come up as you are deciding what is best.

Best online NP program available? I’ve been a psych RN for 12 years now and I want to become an NP. There are so many options and don’t know where to start.

@Freak154l Thank you for your question. I don't solicit any particular program, but I would suggest looking at program specifics mentioned in video. However, one of the top programs seems to be Vanderbilt. EKU is also good!
Funny that you mentioned plant-based medicine, as I have a keen interest in this side of things as well. I actually follow an FNP on IG who is into this, and practicing!
