    Excellent work, I learned a lot. I have always wanted to do a restoration and now I think I have the general idea. The video is very well - shot and edited. Time to get an old bike and go to work. Thank you for sharing your skills and experience.

    Wish I could buy this guy a set of bronze drifter pins and bronze chisels...and some 6 point wrenches and socket set. He sure can do a lot with one galvanized nail and a hammer, pliers and adjustable wrench.

    • @MaximRecoil
      @MaximRecoil 4 года назад +2

      @@ericmcginnis9413 "Personally I'm not a fan of these Fixie's with single gears! Why not use the original cassette?"
      It's not a "fixie" and it never had a cassette. It originally had a single-gear freewheel (a single-gear bike is not necessarily, and not usually, a "fixie") like you'd find on an older BMX (which you can clearly see him remove at 4:34), and it was replaced with a new single-gear freewheel. A "fixie", AKA: fixed gear, is direct drive, meaning that if you pedal backwards it drives the rear wheel backwards too (like with a unicycle or a child's tricycle / Big Wheel). This means that you can't coast on a "fixie", because if the drive wheel is turning it forces the crank to turn as well. A cassette is a stack of different size sprockets, usually 5 or more. A single sprocket is not a cassette.

    • @ericmcginnis9413
      @ericmcginnis9413 4 года назад

      @@MaximRecoil it looks like an original 3 speed hub and to me the confound looks like one I left for a different vidio where a guy took off a cassette and used a single gear so I apologize not sure what happened here!

    • @MaximRecoil
      @MaximRecoil 4 года назад

      @@ericmcginnis9413 It didn't have a 3-speed hub. You can watch him disassemble it. There's nothing in that hub shell other than an axle, bearings, and races. It's just a basic hub, no different than a front hub, except the shell is threaded to accept a freewheel drive mechanism, exactly like older BMXs and road bikes. A three speed hub has a set of planetary gears inside the hub shell, like so - web.mit.edu/course/2/2.972/OldFiles/www/reports/three_speed_hub/smith-eric-1.gif
