      Cheers Patrick. I did try approaching a tv company about doing a series on Cornish wrecks but sadly they don’t seem to share my enthusiasm! Maybe find someone one day willing to do a proper job to it 🙂 plenty more stories like this one with artefacts collected to back it up...

      I’m fairly certain it’s the one, and so are most people in the archeology world. But you can’t say it is until you find that one piece of evidence that proves it !

    Great documentation of the find Ben. The lead panelling looks to me as a lead cover for the touch light hole / vent for one of the guns. A sort of cloak was made from lead and put over the hole so that it kept the power dry. I have seen similar ones with similar patterns from the wreck site of the HMS Phoebe here in Guernsey. The ship itself was becalmed and then run onto a reef. They lightened the ship by throwing the guns, carriages and shot over the side. The lead cloak was found very close to the gun by a friend many moons ago. I could get a photo of the one he found if you like ?

    • @BenoCam
      @BenoCam  2 года назад +1

      Ah yeah interesting ! Would they have holes in the corners to be able to lash it down ? Mine was found right next to a cannon. Be good to figure out what it was !

      @@BenoCam the one I have seen is damaged but looked as if it was moulded around the shape of the end of the gun which held it into place. The leads weight and capability of easy taking shapes to objects would have helped I’m guessing. I will pop around my friends Bunker and take a few pics for you to compare both. His is about 12 inch and has been decorated with Scallops cut into its edge from memory.

    Good eye to whoever spotted the exposed yellow rust areas. The sounding weights reminded me of in the 1970s and 80s as a commercial fisherman sometimes rather than go look at the fathometer I would just bounce a 50 pound lead weight off the bottom to see how deep it was there.

    Did you see in the news last week about the blue lobster that was caught and released, and how it was rare? And now did you spot the blue lobster in your video? 👍😀

    • @BenoCam
      @BenoCam  Год назад +1

      They are very common here, we see them regularly on dives in this area. It must be somewhere else they are rare ! The lobster was just walking past while we were filming the cannon so I took a few clips that’s all
