Hey 3kliks, would you be willing to make a video about the state of CS2's performance? There's 3 specific things I can point to that are drastically impacting performance in-game currently. (Though I'm sure more would be revealed upon investigation...) 1: Molotovs, especially on high Model/Texture detail, destroy FPS normally (300 to 240 fps average), but it's nearly unplayable while using a scope. (300 to 100 fps average) This is really noticeable in situations like holding banana on inferno or cat on Dust II while there's a molotov burning. Lowering the Model and Texture quality helps a bit, but it's still costing like 50% of your performance while double scoped looking past a molly. The new CT molotovs are much much worse. Dropping me from 300+ FPS to under 60 if you have to get the scope any where near it. 2: Viewmodel. I looked for a while to find the video I saw, but I haven't been able to find it yet. But it was demonstrating the amount your viewmodel costs in terms of performance. I believe the conclusion was around 15% of your total frames are lost when rendering the viewmodel. (They also demonstrated slight improvements when using a lower FOV viewmodel, as well as demonstrated that it was indeed the viewmodel by simply disabling it) 3: Opening the scoreboard, as of the more recent updates, now takes away 50% of my FPS instantly. From 300 to 150, sometimes even worse than that. Edit: You can use cl_radar_square_with_scoreboard 0 to get a big boost back, but the scoreboard will still eat FPS for no good reason when open. But this keeps it in the 200s for me (in a solo Mirage map) rather than low 100s. I've emailed the cs2team@valvesoftware email outlining these issues. The moltov issue I reported and demonstrated back in January. It's never been addressed. And still persists today even after the updated molotovs. It's my hope that if you make a video outlining these concerns, they will address them quickly. So untill i get better internet, thats my only solution for dealing with extremely volatile input latency.
Sorry to break it to you, but getting a better internet connection will not improve your framerates and input latency. For the game's engine itself, sending network packets and receiving the ones that are available is extremely cheap on any modern computer, and with less bandwidth it actually even means there are less packets that you can possibly receive, which would increase your FPS instead if it mattered. You're getting significant FPS drops because there are 19 other people on a server; each one is a separate set of game entities, including the player model, and the weapon models, and all the animation processing on those models, particles, etc, which do add up. For proof of what I'm saying: try joining a full server like that, and then physically disconnect your network connection. At this point in time, your internet will be infinitely worse than ADSL, i.e. nonexistent entirely, and yet the game will be exactly just as responsive regarding mouse movement, and will not freeze up. Of course the connection to the server will be lost, and your game will automatically disconnect after a visible timer, but the game engine itself will not freeze and your FPS will remain the same lol
