I do consider this as one of the greatest Blues guitar tracks ever recorded. To have been there, watching and listening, honestly they couldn't have seen anything any better. Masterclass, and deeper than you thought possible. Tremendous!
I've been a blues fan for 25 years plus and I still regard this as the GREATEST slow blues song I have ever heard, bar none. So yeah, BM, I 100 per cent agree with you! The world will never see his like again, though many have claimed his crown as the best Blues guitar player since Jimi. Why oh why did you have to leave us so soon, Stevie? - its a crying shame you're jammin with Jimi, not on some stage somewhere! Blues fans have been robbed-- robbed!! 21 years this year, since you left us.
Over a decade since this was posted...four since this was performed...yet this is as immediate and relevant and soulful and fresh as they day his guitar strings resonated with the sound...
The best version I ever heard was a live-radio performance circa 1979 KLBJ-FM Austin -- recorded by the station and played occasionally by them through the years. Should have known to rip it to cassette. Captures Stevie much better than the version they put on Texas Flood.
Hhhhmmmm, I would have to disagree. He was ALWAYS the best of all of them but after he got clean he would absolutely blow the roof off! I love every single version of every song he did. Before and after he got clean.
@srvinfinity That stinging note that he hits, following "I heard a woman scream..." on the 'In The Beginning' version is just jaw-dropping! Makes me shiver!
Stevie - Remember, Once Wanted To Be Known As Stevie "StingRay" Vaughan.....A Little Too In-Your-Face...😳....Number🎸One Spoke For Him Just Fine! I Glad He 'Opted Out On "StingRay"....
For sure this is a great version. IMO, 2nd only to the version on the album "In the beginning", but i guess its possible that recorded version could have been tweaked a little. It still sounded great tho! I couldnt believe my ears at 7:19..that crazy sounding lick! I dont think ive ever heard that one from him before. Its just a testament that he was always just playing from the heart. Admittedly, some of his stuff could be a little repetitive, but live, he was a killer! It shows real talent to come up with amazingly different licks like that out of nowhere. The best blues i ever heard comes when guys seem to be playing "on auto pilot" yet at the same time they are just absolutely "in the zone" of inspiration and creativity because they love the medium so much. Stevie was always that. what a sad loss to the world blues scene
this is 5 years prior to the Montreux 85 performance with Johnny Copeland.. That performance is spectacular( less bad directoring)......but I love this solo as well. LONG LIVE SRV
Whiskey Wine and Gin... Stevie Ray Vaughn one of the best Blues singers of all time..I like this cut, college dazz..lol lol ..some yall i know dont know about this but check it outtt...
Northstadiumhusker Ahh, I LOVE Zepplin but Page is NO Vaughn. Mr. Page is badass, no doubt, but Stevie Ray was the sickest player to ever grace our ears. The way he commanded his guitar to sing and cry will never meet it's match. There will never be his equal. An incredible talent gone WAY too soon.
Let me start by saying I am abso a huuuuge SRV fan and that.....wow that was a strong comment. If and If Jimi sobered up he and SRV would have been .......well if they jammed together me thinks the world would stop rotating and the sun would pause from setting off sun showers guessing you love the blues and SRV like we all do
@@jordangordan8980 Most wouldn't know the struggle. I have slept on everything from sand shit blood guts and sand. Im trying to come out with some good digs, been playing a long time. Hope yall get to see me one day, bending strings and rocking blues all day baby. All day.
This is the genre I that I really don't care about race...good blues is good blues...from johnny lee hooker to peter green...it's good enough for me...
I SO Wish Stevie Had NEVER Started Smoking!! But Of Course Jimi Hendrix Did!...And Jimmie His Brother Did!!....And His Dad & Uncles Did! And Pretty Much EVERYBODY Else By The 60's....! I HATED It When He Smoked On Stage...This Song Makes Me Wonder Where He "Conjured" Tin Pan Alley From...Dives He Really Worked In Throughout His Career?? Stevie Was A Great Story Teller! His 🚬 Kept His Other Addictions Going ....BUT HE KICKED THEM ALL BEFORE HE DIED!! YOU WON, STEVIE!! I MISS YOU!! SOUL💞SOUL...ALWAYS💗😘
Sounds a little sped up to me… especially the floor tom. The guitar doesn’t seem to be in drop tuning either. I’ve heard 75+ live versions of TPA from ‘80-‘82 alone and this one stands out as being indescribably “different”, if not “off” in some way that I can’t put my finger on. I think it’s pitched a tiny bit higher, but still unreal.
@5507156693 ah but he was clean and sober when he passed - i have one of his pitch's - and he carried the message to others who suffer from alcoholism - he was just a gifted alcoholic who made it out of this world sober. that's special if u ask me
do i got i right ?:D Stevie started driking at the age of 7 and was an alcoholic and drug user around the age of 14?:D damn i thought such things happen only here in Poland :D
" Jimi not Blues" - well, Ok, its a point of view, but not gonna get into it. Suffice to say my perceptions differ. Either way, I'll always feel robbed by the loss of the great SRV. Blues music is King!
Haha, It fucks with you're imagination doesn't it? Compare Eric Clapton from his LP days in early 66-68 and after on his strat... And clapton is a simple fucking blues guitarist. Now imagine SRV playing those blues like that!
It's been said that Hendrix was a very sloppy, loud blues guitarist. Stevie was incredibly accurate with his playing. There both gifted, so don't hate on them. Your just jealous.
I do consider this as one of the greatest Blues guitar tracks ever recorded. To have been there, watching and listening, honestly they couldn't have seen anything any better. Masterclass, and deeper than you thought possible. Tremendous!
There will NEVER be a guitarist that could even come close to the skills of Stevie. The best ever!!
SRV for life! Thanks Stevie now I have permanent stank face at work and my coworkers are looking at me funny lmao!
Just close your eyes .. let him play deeeep in your soul .. RIP SRV

richardcorysghost Rory Gallagher one of the kings too my friend
@will joe 31 years next month 😔 I will never get over his passing.
Over a decade since this was posted...four since this was performed...yet this is as immediate and relevant and soulful and fresh as they day his guitar strings resonated with the sound...
NO Guitar Player can Voo Doo the way SRV pulled magic fron that Strat!!!!!!!
I have never heard this song played this way I really like it great beat.
This is my favorite version
That's the best version I've ever listened to.
I love how Stevie had this "up front" yet sensitive way of playing
Great Description!
The best version I ever heard was a live-radio performance circa 1979 KLBJ-FM Austin -- recorded by the station and played occasionally by them through the years. Should have known to rip it to cassette. Captures Stevie much better than the version they put on Texas Flood.
young stevie is the best!!!
Hhhhmmmm, I would have to disagree. He was ALWAYS the best of all of them but after he got clean he would absolutely blow the roof off! I love every single version of every song he did. Before and after he got clean.
Love every performance of TPA I've heard him do and really love this up tempo performance, and yes, so so smooooth. Thanks for posting it!
BADDEST DAM MUSIC EVER HE'S THE MAN
those slided harmonics are like bullets passing through
@srvinfinity That stinging note that he hits, following "I heard a woman scream..." on the 'In The Beginning' version is just jaw-dropping! Makes me shiver!

Excellent one of the best versions.
I saw SRV and Jeff Beck back in the late 80s. Stevie was great. Jeff was too fast and loud. RIP Stevie
I love ya Stevie Ray Vaughan makes me happy
For sure this is a great version.
IMO, 2nd only to the version on the album "In the beginning",
but i guess its possible that recorded version could have been tweaked a little.

Énorme progression.
before the drugs. i agree
This version almost has a "Zeppelin" feel to it. Could just as easily be Page, J.P. Jones, and Bonham.
Chris Layton is no John Bonham
Page isn't a free flowing soloist like SRV or Jimi, he is a great riff merchants though Jimi gave him a run for his money there also.
Almost
Let me start by saying I am abso a huuuuge SRV fan and that.....wow that was a strong comment. A comon meeen. Damn Stivie
Sounds Effortless!, relaxed between the notes even when fingers are flying. That's the sweetness most strive for, but never even step where he danced!
Ghost Dog not a lot of people today would go to the lengths he did. Dude slept on pool tables
@@jordangordan8980 Most wouldn't know the struggle. I have slept on everything from sand shit blood guts and sand. Im trying to come out with some good digs, been playing a long time. Hope yall get to see me one day, bending strings and rocking blues all day baby. All day.
The man unleashed the very archetypal elements of music, playing he's life out of that strat.
PS this version is excellent as well
Smoke on top of smokin!!!
Stevie..
Well put! Also JH's Rock me baby is sick! check it out!
7:36 ... that.. THAT

I almost just typed in ...THIS ISINT SRV THEN I BECAME NORMAL.... LOL

it does seem fast overall eh. Very possible the tape is playing fast as well....
He was in standard tuning in this
dont to mention, born under a bad sign,in fact he was a blues artist that was so phsychodelic people mistaked him for a rock artist
@5507156693 ah but he was clean and sober when he passed - i have one of his pitch's - and he carried the message to others who suffer from alcoholism - he was just a gifted alcoholic who made it out of this world sober. that's special if u ask me
@5507156693 Actually he died from a helicopter crash after he completely sobered up.
fuk me thats strange i never thought of that. that would be mad
do i got i right ?:D Stevie started driking at the age of 7 and was an alcoholic and drug user around the age of 14?:D damn i thought such things happen only here in Poland :D
Man I see a few people clicked the dislike button by mistake.
R-KEEGAN-H they are from Australia !
Fuck I think I just wet myself! D:
News Flash he quit all that
the bass line doesn't sit well with me in this version
does redhouse, hear my train a comin',manish boy cover, voodoo chile blues,,jelly 292 ring a bell, do ur homework mister
Imagine SRV on a gibson les paul
Faut être inculte, non connaisseur & probablement con au mini pour les 7 qui n aimaient pas ! C'est pas étonnant que ce monde regorge de fous
" Jimi not Blues" - well, Ok, its a point of view, but not gonna get into it. Suffice to say my perceptions differ. Either way, I'll always feel robbed by the loss of the great SRV. Blues music is King!

@Oldspirit189 Err… Stevie was so much better than hendrix; why would he want to be the lesser player???? No logic at all
@5507156693 nice reply..... well said!
one person doesn't knows music, specially blues
It's been said that Hendrix was a very sloppy, loud blues guitarist. Stevie was incredibly accurate with his playing. There both gifted, so don't hate on them. Your just jealous.
Also stevies playing has a loose yet so precise playing style
@5507156693 what do u know
