That field with that fence was where President Nixon's state funeral happened back in April 27 1994
After his ride on Marine One he got on Air Force One to return home to California. As the plane crossed over Missouri Gerald Ford was sworn in as president and the captain of the plane radioed in and had the plane's call sign changed from Air Force One to Sam 27000 because the plane no longer had the President on board.
Yea! And it was right above Jefferson City, MO when it happened. I was living there and I was just 7 months old.
And then, after he landed at El Toro Air Force Marine Base and gave an impromptu speech to the crowd gathered there, he boarded a Marine Huey helicopter (the kind used in Vietnam) for his final helicopter ride to San Clemente. It wasn't Marine One anymore.
Nixon was President when I was in high school. He got the US out of that mess in South Vietnam, he was OK in my opinion, a saint by today's standards.
And the timing of the US withdrawal couldn't have been better. My only guess as to why he delayed it until 1972 was it would boost his chances of getting re-elected, and it did.
Nixon wasnt any worse than any of the other Presidents. Some get away with shit and some dont. I agree that in todays world not much would be said if it happened over again now.
this video was awesome, you can definitely see the time and love you poured into this, it was well put together, great cuts, great info and commentary as usual! keep it up!
I was 7 when Nixon resigned and recall being gathered with my family in front of the TV when it happened.
Thanks for another great video.
Great video, Adam!
Awesome video Adam.
Adam, it's very cool that you went here, because this place has a special place in my heart. Richard Nixon's grave-site was the last one I needed to visit to have seen all 38 presidential grave-sites. I visited it in late June, 2015. Love your videos as always. The video of me going to the grave is on my channel, too!
Very nice video presented very well without any obvious bias, well done Adam. You have matured a lot from some your earlier stuff, I will be checking your channel out more often.
Dude, Adam. I love you videos. Please keep them coming! Thanks for all the hard work.
Unexpected ending to a great video. I liked the splicing in of the historical news stories on Nixon and his resignation speech. You put a lot of time and effort into these videos and it really shows. Thanks Adam.
Your new camera looks incredible, definitely one of your best vids.
How can Adam not have over a million subscribers? His videos are so good!
really, really, cool vlog man. I have said in the recent past that I just love the historic vlogs that you do. you are obviously a history buff as I am. I have always wanted to go to the Nixon library, very awesome job.
Awesome vid man! Your videos keep getting better and better
Congrats on this one Adam. Great job. You know more about Nixon than I do and I'm 61 years old and lived through it all and forgotten most of it. Your not as lucky on this trip as you were on the Disney monorail vid and the right door wasn't locked, but I see you did check it out. I hope you got back in. Dan
Another classic Adam, keep it up buddy, you make my time on the internet enjoyable
Awesome you finally got to the Richard Nixon Museum... Hope you do a video on Ronald Reagan Museum next
Thanks for sharing!
awesome video!
Another great video
I visited the Nixon library in 2012 with my brother and cousins. It’s an incredibly beautiful library and museum, and yes, it’s cool to step in front of Marine One and do the Nixon Victory sign lol
Interesting video as always Adam. Certainly enjoyed every bit of it .
I was in Viet Nam and he pulled my unit out first thing and I spent the rest of my service in Hawaii.Tricky Dick is OK IMHO.
Adam the Woo, why are you so awesome? Yet another top notch video.
great video brother!
great video and exceptional job with the addition of the old clips. im a few years older than you but I was a child still when this was happening so I have never seen this stuff. awesome.
One of my favorite quotes Adam. "Always give your best, never get discouraged, never be petty; always remember, others may hate you, but those who hate you don't win unless you hate them, and then you destroy yourself." Richard Nixon - August 9, 1974
Cindy Quinn
What an elegant, wonderful
farewell speech !
Awesome video Adam! Too bad about your keys :(
I love how you flash back to the old scenes. very good video. I was wanting to watch you get into your van. God bless you Adam.
Adam please do more of these videos!
An amazing video!
Amazing video dude! I have a fascination with political history as well so I really loved watching this!
Love that classic victory stance on the top of the stairs...with his coat still buttoned and riding up.
Another good one!
Another great video, TY.
Interesting and fascinating as usual Adam, great work!
Adam I love your channel and your buddy's. Keep up the good work??!!
Well done,Adam.Keep it up!
LOL! You just made me feel *really* old, when you announced that Nixon resigned the day before you were born. I was a 30 year old engineer in aerospace electronics then. Aaaargh!
Fascinating look! I did not know that that helicopter still existed.
Terrific way to end your adventure, calling a locksmith to come and break into your van. LOL
Nice job. Definately can notice a step up in quality. peace
Great video as usual, adam! I like your new shirt too. Sorry about being locked out of the van :(
As a Canadian I find it remarkable that most Americans don't realize that Richard Nixon was likely the most intelligent President in your history. A very bright man. Small things like Watergate and the general b.s. of politicking did not even register with this guy. He had a great legacy of achievements and understood this world better than most ever will. On the negative side, he wasn't pretty, he operated at a time when JFK and RFK were in the game and he could be petty. All that said, genius is rare, Jack Kennedy donated to his campaign and he understood the term middle class.
Ronald Fry
You're right, Nixon and Kennedy were close friends...both of the
House of Representative's freshman class of 1948.
But more pertinently was his genius. Nixon was gifted with an uncommon and incomprehensible depth of intellectual acumen.
Nixon was a better President than the last 5 we have had.
This is an awesome video !!! I think i might have to watch it again.
You stepped up your production value 100x!
As always, love your video.
My grandfather was part of the marine one team during President Eisenhower Kennedy and Johnson he left the marines after that. He was the first of his team to ever land a helicopter on the White House lawn.
i grew up down the street from the first ever house elvis bought in Memphis and went to college in Mississippi so been through tupelo many many many many times. Born and raised in memphis and big elvis fan and after 31 years of life finally went to graceland
+Matthew Grear very cool. I love Memphis
+adamthewoo its a really cool city. lots of good food and history. huge fan, keep up the good work. Your doing a great job, love watching your videos.
+adamthewoo Have you checked out sun studios yet? Its a really cool tour lots of history there. Very rare artifacts. Also, downtown Memphis has the abandoned sterick skyscraper you should check out!
+someonewithballs ill be down town tonight so i will have to check that out. my girlfriend lives down there so i may have to visit that building. and i have lived and been going downtown for almost 32 years and never been to sun studios
+adamthewoo i think you missed the perfect chance for the classic arnold line, get to the chopper
I normally skip everyone’s intros. But I never skip an Adamthewoo intro! Oooooshit sonnnnnnn!
Really enjoy your videos, thank you for showing all of us all those cool places we would probably have never known about👍🏻
It never rains in California. On day Nixon body was taken from El Toro to Yorba Linda it began to rain, and thunder and lighting as hearse turned on Yorba Linda Blvd for last journey into museum.
I love it when you go to historical places or review artifacts from history. thanks...
+Fish glad you enjoy the videos, Thanks
Great video! I love historical places like this.
Had he been president today and done the same thing nobody would give a shit.
I thought the same thing X100!
unfortunately you're right ethics have died
+s0nnyburnett This is not true because Nixon was a Republican, the Clintons and Obmama get free passes because they are democrats, especially the Clintons. What Nixon did was equal to nothing more than shoplifting in comparison to what Hillary has done.
+k re True that
+k re What Nixon did was destroy lives and destroy peoples rights. You know nothing about Nixon
You keep complaining about Democrats, you know nothing about them either. You need to leave these forums until you can grow up and learn history
Nixon was good man and had a dry sense of humor .
His helicopter.was flown by Tom Cruz USMC, who worked at Lockheed after serving his country.
I also worked with Jack Lohrke , baseball great known as Lucky Lohrke. It was a pleasure working with both of them and listening to all their stories.
I keep finding great Woo classics that I must've missed!
If you liked the Nixon Library, you'll love the Reagan Library over in Simi Valley. They've got an Air Force One plane there.
"join me, shall you?" hey another great video man!
Digging the videos, Adam! I live about 30 miles north of Tupelo for the past 15 years, but raised and lived in SoCal for 35 years. I miss SoCal....beach, mountains, but not the traffic!
what lens are you using instead if the 10-22mm
Good video, Adam.
Really loving the new format!
BTW: What's with the cliffhanger? How'd you get back in the Woomobile?
Very very neat...except not the part where your keys are locked in the van.
I remember watching all those events live on TV. I first visited the library several weeks after the funeral. I've been back a couple times since. I was particularly interested in the artifacts in the birthplace house. There's some vintage National Geographics and a bar of P&G soap. I have many National Geographics from that era and I even have a box of P&G soap! I think my soap was left over from my grandparents' grocery store in San Bernardino. The soap must be about 70 years old. Yorba Linda has a lot of nice little shops and restaurants off the Imperial Highway, so it's pleasant to take in a little presidential history there. I think the library's gift shop reports that their most popular items relate to that Elvis picture.
im here all week adam
Gerald Ford was not Nixon's "predecessor." A predecessor is someone who is in office BEFORE you. Nixon's predecessor was Lyndon Johnson.
Successor
Nice video, I see you are using your T3i? That's an awesome camera bro!! :)
speaking from a historical standpoint, awesome video!
Adam! I love your videos! I remember when you had 10,000 subs! You have come very far! You deserve so many more subscribers! Keep making great videos! Xo-Jensen
+j3ns3n4xo thanks so much !
+adamthewoo no problem!
I've been watching him for almost that long. since I started watching RUclips religiously, actually.
Good video :)
Good luck with those keys Adam! Great video!
Just read some of these comments. I'll never get used to anyone wasting their time to write anything negative about something that is virtually free. Anyway, great video Adam! Keep the glasses! And get a spare key.
Great job. Loved the helicopter footage. Hope you got in your van. Or are you still there?
WoW cool video Adam :)
Great vid,Adam !!You should to a series of vids on dead Presidential library and graves.
A+ Adam! He wasn't a crook, he just got caught!
dun, dun, dun
Was set up because he didn't do what Deep state wanted. Presidents between Kennedy and Trump. Had to do what Deep State wanted or they would get screwed or killed.Heatd he wanted to end the Vietnam war.
Very cool, good one
r ur videos monetized?
excellent video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Again.......Excellent!
I'm very upset you didn't ask my mom.
So is my Mom.
Yeah you're in my neck of the woods. It's cool to watch your videos and know the area you are filming at. Also, you inspire my family and I to go explore too. Thank you. I lived in the OC all my life and I think you have seen more than me in the year you have lived here. Ha ha.
What a sad way to end a great video... Yep... mistakes happen to all of us... I hope you were able to get in without breaking a window.. BTW.. are you on Patreon..? I'd like to give you a few bucks... I hope you are still producing creative content... I enjoy your channel... Every video you do, I give you a thumbs-up! Well deserved my inspirational friend!
Great Job Adam
Liked & Subscribed - Thanks adamthewoo - Nixon was actually a very nice man. Its a-shame he got caught with the Watergate stuff but even after his resignation he still remained a Statesman - He continued serving his country albeit quietly and he remained a Peace Maker until the end. I listened to a-lot of his interviews , speeches etc and he was very witty - anyway thanks again Adam ------------ Bridget (New Zealand)
A friend of mine was a member of the Marine Corps. ground crew. He told me they cleaned the helicopter with Windex and terry cloth towels. The reasoning was that water could possibly get trapped in the panel joints and cause corrosion...
You were born one day after Nixon resigned?? I was in my second year at college on that day. You sure missed out on witnessing a lot of history. But there's more to come that you'll live through.
oh no I'm sorry you locked your keys in your van, hope it didn't cost anything to get them out. great video looks like a wonderful place to indulge in history.
Your video is awesome. I remember watching the funeral on TV.
you should've flagged down that cop that drove behind you at the very end of the video to help get ya back into your van..guess you were to busy vlogging..lol..great video!!!
You should have pointed out that the helicopter wasn't "Marine 1", it was "Army 1". The Presidents Helicopter now is exclusively "Marine 1" but back in the day, it changed between the services. That day just happened to be an Army helicopter.
Very interesting in presidential history. I learned something great job. You should do more of these on older presidents.
Great video!
Did you notice that the shot of the back of the helicopter...right after the shot of Nixon looking out the window, shows the sign plate that reads danger. But, where the tail blade was stopped...the sign reads, "anger". Kind of ironic seeing that must have been what Tricky Dicky must have been feeling on that last ride.
+john- waxerone You and amiedetherese 3 comments above are the only people I've ever heard in 49+ years use the term Tricky Dicky. It was always just Tricky Dick. Is the extra y your own spin? Not trying to be nitty picky or nothin' lol. I actually wish I thought of it ; )
my grandma called Nixon that at at the family dinner table years ago by mistake, and she was the, prim and proper type, everyone fell off their chairs dieing laughing! We used that name ever since.
so how did you get back into your van?
Good video
that was very well done. I really enjoyed it
Hope you got back in your van ok Adam. #heckit!
Great vid.
What he did is nothing compared to todays Politicians,he told the truth.just sayin.
+Pete Smith You're an idiot... try checking your history...
Why all of these hateful comments,I have an opinon, what makes your hateful comment right.
+Pete Smith Because you are trying to rate degrees of "wrongness" (which is kinda dumb anyway) and even at this look what he did... that's why... and mine was not a hateful comment toward the poster it was to you and your opinion of Nixon... it is naive and uninformed... I didn't say you were not a nice person... you're just an idiot... wanna go around again... by the way your village called... they want you back...
So I post a comment and all I get is hate, from angry people like you.
+RSBSTEADICAM No, you need to check your history. I am not justifying Watergate, but there were no human lives lost. When President Obama leaves office, perhaps finally, the truth will be told. Did you forget about selling arms to the Mexican drug cartel? Certainly, what happened in Benghazi will forever overshadow what President Nixon did.
