I know the "Darkest Africa" Kane stories get some flak but the relationship growth between Kane and N'longa is actually a pretty good representation of an initially ignorant character (as far as race goes) adapting his views as he gets more familiar with another.
Same with Edgar Rice Burroughs, but I'll always love both authors. Any author of any period is going to project the zeitgeist of his time and place. Tarzan, Kane, and Conan all had great friends from different races, including African.
Solomon Kane stories are largely "fair for its day", Conan has more racist elements. But if you want bigotry that even contemporaries raise their eyebrows at, try reading HP Lovecraft 😇 He makes Robert E Howard look like a liberal 😆
Sounds like cultural marxism to me, it's not ignorent to dislike dissimilar people its natural the lie is that it's ignorent when everyone but Whites does it and is encouraged to do so the idea that it's ignorent is to set people up to get killed by being overly nice to criminals who have 26X the murder rate and come from cannibals. Reality Check
Thanks for your hard work. I discovered Howard in the 1980s in my childhood and shared it with my son. I forward these to him now he is deployed with the army and they help us both pass the time and break away from our worlds. Thank u
Our pleasure. That reminds us of Tolkien, writing the start of middle earth during his time in the military, then sharing and growing that world with his son in letters when his son was in service.
Damn...I love how Howard wrote Kane's cold fury, describing how he set the gunpowder trap alight & sent thirteen brigands to hell, as well as your reading of it. That is damn good.
The production put into this, the quality of the narration. Outstanding work! The Actor behind Kane does a spectacular job! Easily the greatest audiobook of Kane's stories I'll be likely to come across.
Your videos are like quicksand. Everytime I put one on I get sucked in, and then 9 hours and several videos later I wonder what happened to my afternoon. Absolutely amazing stuff
Another fantastic reading! It really made my work as a groundsman a lot more epic. It struck me, that (minus the rape and the underhanded dealings) Le Loupe is a very, very conanesque character- A reaver and a plunderer and a raider, and a complete opportunist.
understandable they are both survivors, then opportunists, but Loup goes further, crossing those lines, betraying and killing his own people for loot and a chance to escape
@@TheCybrarian Of course - But I think it also helps Conan's case, that we are almost never confronted with his victims directly. The only instance I can think of, is the slave in The Scarlet Citadel. I know it is impossible, but I now that I think of it, I would have loved a story in which Conan and Solomon Kane met - Akin to the Kings of the Night.
Oh the character in scarlet citadel that's trying to get revenge for his brother killed by conan, hmm I think conan and Solomon kane would take a while to earn each others respect, the barbarian and the puritan seem diametrically opposed, it'd certainly be interesting to read
@@TheCybrarian Conan would ply his talents aquired in "civilized lands" such as debauchery, drunkenness, murder for hire, theivery, and a bevy of other "sins", would surely grate mightily upon the righteous Puritan. Cyber librarian, I'm enjoying your audio book adaptations of Solomon Kane! In the for what it's worth department, have you ever heard of another author named Karl E. Wagner? He created a most memorable character named " Kane "; supposedly one the first humans, who was cursed by an insane Elder God with Immortality. His books started with Bloodstone, Darkness Weaves, Death Angel's Shadow, what makes him fascinating is he's part sorcerer savant; a warrior, a barbarian, a King; a Conquerer, and many other things! It was published by Warner Books during the mid 1980s until about 2000 or so . Adding him to your library would make an excellent idea.
