I live in Long Beach CA and here abouts LA and Orange County and while the weather is nice, I can totally appreciate what you're sayin about having an ideal climate zone you can escape to in winter. No matter where you are you can go underground and achieve close to perfect weather. Watching Citrus in the Snow and learning about the old school story of Fresno CA resident Baldassare Forestiere from Sicily who built his entire home and orchards underground to escape the heat. Geothermal is a massively underutilized method of climate control, I would rate it on the same level of amazing technology as solar panels and batteries, because thats essentially what it is, one big Earth battery that many of us arent even using, add a bit of solar to that and some rain water collection and you can create a nearly self sustaining eco system or at least minimal effort and amazingly reliable results.
That is the best looking Wallipini I've every seen. I've wanted to build one since I first saw a picture online, you have inspired me to rethink the design.
I subbed because finally somebody's building one with rock I'm taking this stuff to the next level mine's going to be freeform Adobe on top of rock with a burm up on the North side with dirt and planted with bamboo to buffer out the cold wind I live in the Ozarks
I have never seen one of those. I live in Texas so I don't need one for the reason you do. It would however be nice to have a garden that isn't scorching all summer long. Maybe I could grow some plants I grew up with. Of course it would need to be extremely creative to make it in Texas. I guess I'll be thinking about this idea for awhile. I wonder if you could achieve this effect in some man made hills. I've been thinking about trying to make a partially in ground home. It would have to actually be in a hill, but the energy savings should be immense. Possibly no heat needed at all, and hopefully a huge drop in cooling.
The texas summer heat would turn a normal walipini into a 160 deg oven if its covered. Youd have to cover during storms and at night but open it back up during the day or solar gain will cook your plants into crispy bits
You would definitely have to work out some sort of ventilation system that draws outside air through underground piping to keep the Walipini cool enough in the summer months. I'm sure it can be done, but it would take a lot of research first.
Okay so I just dug this massive hole next to my house,. And in a frenzy worried about what to do next,. Fearing a mud hole,. I found your video. I sat out to make a in ground greenhouse. I have plenty of rocks. What do I do next. ?
Hello Mr congressman, my question is what are you using to charge your batteries? Are you using the Elcon charger from evtv? Where does the voltage from the solar panels go to?An inverter and then to a charger? The reason I ask is because I can’t see from your pictures how it is setup. Right now I’m using nickel iron batteries and would like to get a setup like yours. Thanks Tony a magaTrump supporter!!!
I think plants get their nutrition another way. I have seen some information that states plants do not need direct sunlight, but somehow they get their sustenance through the aether. I don't know much about this but thought I would put that out there because it doesn't really make too much sense with them spraying
The dude is someone to model your life after. Principled, self-sufficient, and goal-driven. Much respect.
Sending my condolences to you and your family.
Thomas Massie is a national treasure. Best congressman right now.
Best member of Congress... Massie is the man.
And its not even close
Not a very rigorous standard
What a fantastic human being. Absolutely amazing
The only politician I like period. AND he built a awesome walipini?! He's my hero lol
Never though I'd hear a congressman say he 'found an earthworm in his walipini.' 😂
This is the first I've heard of walipini and I'm jazzed. Off to research. Happy growing in your walipini Mr. Massie and thanks for sharing.
My hubs and I are in the process of building one now. I’m so thrilled to see more people getting excited about them.

Keep kicking ass, Mr. Massie!
There's a message here for all of us....

Ever since I discovered the concept of a Walipini I've been scheming on a ways to build one on my lot sometime hopefully in the near future.
This dude is the man, also shout out to the big dig comment!
I'm thinking of doing this. Thanks for sharing 👍🏾🙂🙏🏾🌏💚💎
God provided, man built it👏🏻👏🏻 impressive
Following his lead on this…❤
Cool!
A man and his Walapini
I never listened to a 30 minute commercial before hearing this guy talk randomly on youtube
In a world full of AOCs, be a Thomas Massie. Don’t talk about it, be about it.
Awesome!!
Love this man!
Very cool!
One of the only politicians on earth I like

I live in north Louisiana on a hill and would like to build one myself. Mostly for my tropicals.
Wonder if you could do a pit or trench walipini.
Great lookin walli!
Is the hole in the back wall (foundation/basement) used to add heat into the space?
I don't know

California is a big state boss
Thomas Massie was rocking Crocs before it was cool.

Rip rhonda massie, taken out by aipac
How does his plants grow with what little sunshine we get since they spray the stupid skies with chemicals and block the sun's rays?

The chem trails do effect the amount of sunlight our plants get and it’s something we should fight against ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
