I live in Portland Oregon and I am beyond disappointed with how we are handling the houseless crisis in this country. I’ve never seen it on this scale before. We need to treat our fellow citizens with dignity. We are failing our neighbors.

I live in PDX too. Portland actually does okay as far as non-profits setting up counseling, mental help, and creating rules for the homeless prior to placing them in apartments. The majority pay the entirely of their rent for a year or more if they do as they instruct. There are a huge number of non-profits, including those who specialize in supporting homeless trans, vets, hiv positive, young adults, etc. There’s just WAY too many homeless here and they can’t find a place to live if they have really bad credit or a severe criminal background. I rented to many of them while working for a big prop management company. The question is, is it even possible to help those who have those big issues and those who don’t make the effort?

@@Mysterious_Moon I don’t agree that’s not the question. There isn’t enough affordable housing on the entire west coast (major cities especially). Yes PDX does a fair job but obviously it isn’t enough. I work with the public and have intimate knowledge of the services we provide for addiction, mental health and affordable housing. It isn’t enough. The the gulf that divides the rich and the poor is the greatest we seen in this country. The people with money and power do not pay into our system to help keep people off the streets and help them with more services that they desperately need. I’m never going to blame the person on the street. We aren’t doing enough.

Thank you for addressing homelessness. I was homeless for 7 years (starting in 2013, and I find it really interesting that you pointed that out about Saturn in Scorpio....), and I was a homeless advocate. I watched for years as the situation devolved worse and worse, with a societal stigma against the homeless that blames victims. The main reason for entrenched homelessness is trauma leading to mental health issues and self-medicating with substance abuse. Absolutely linked to childhood trauma and abuse, and a ton of kids who age out of foster care at age 18 and have no resources or anywhere to go. Many end up spending their whole lives on the streets. Absolutely something society has been turning a blind eye to. Definitely worth looking at the work of Dr. Gabor Mate and reading Bessel Van Der Kolk's expose on how society is ignoring trauma in his book "The Body Keeps the Score." Basically, talking about abuse and trauma means exposing those doing the abuse, and that means challenging and holding accountable the people with power, whether in the macro or the micro. Very Plutonian issues. We see this in the past few years coming to a head around the "Me, Too" movement, Epstein and Ghislaine's sex trafficking case exposed, and the Black Lives Matter movements as well. Capricorn is about taking responsibility, after all.

I appreciate everything you just wrote here. I've listened to Dr. Gabor Maté also. Really amazing work he's done.
I've encountered that 'blame the victim' attitude and am so disheartened by it. The inability for people to understand that THEIR experience in the world isn't someone else's experience ... and what trauma does. THAT is what we need to begin teaching in school: What trauma does to a person.

@@andreaandrea6716 Yes, I've found that our whole mental health system is built around a blame-the-victim model. Especially in emphasizing genetic causes for mental health, instead of looking at inherited patterns of abuse in family and culture. It totally made sense to me when I learned that Freud originally pronounced that mental illness is caused by sexual abuse, after working with many high society women with "hysteria." His pronouncement caused an absolute blow-back from the high society men (doing the abuse) and he had to retract his statement and rework his theory into a victim-blaming model around sexual obsessions and impulses. We've inherited the revised model ever since.

yes, absolutely.
I'm in U.k and homelessness a real issue here too. I was homeless for 6 months..low income/ elderly dog and rents WAY above my ability to pay...that is even IF dogs allowed. Anyway, the reason I'm writing this is to say thank you for your clear passion on this Sky and yes Kate the points you make are spot on.
It is time this major problem is addressed worldwide.

@@andreaandrea6716 I'm going to say something that sounds totally woo woo, but this is my personal experience. I was in the mental health system for decades, starting in high school. I did the meds, I did the counseling, I was hospitalized repeatedly in psych wards. Nothing really worked until I got a couple exorcisms. After that I began to regain my sanity. It has taken about 6 years, but I'm basically healed now. I met many people with demons, on the streets and off, since then and I know the signs. Parasitic entities can latch onto a person who is dissociated, either through trauma or heavy substance abuse. How can we solve a problem that we don't even believe exists? Our psychological crisis is also a spiritual crisis.

Pluto is just finished transiting my 7th house and so I have learned so much about narcissism and about narcissistic relationships and I see it everywhere now! I see our entire system is setup using narcissistic logic ... Patriarchy, capitalism all based in exploitation and heirachy ...very narcissistic. Narcissists always have to be "better" than others. This mindset unoubtedly creates a narcissistic society.l!

I'm about 16 minutes in and on the economic front regarding your insights I immediately think of a couple things. One, the largest transfer of wealth in history just occurred since 2020 after small, independently owned establishments shut down, MANY for good and people, especially in heavy lockdown areas, became increasingly reliant on delivery services like Amazon. Two, Klaus Schwab, leader of the World Economic Forum, wrote a book a few years back called The Great Reset, that contains his famous quote, "It's 2030, you will own nothing and you will be happy." At the 2017 WEF young leaders conference, Klaus Schwab praised the fact that the WEF had "penetrated global cabinets all over the world" with leaders like Justin Trudeau to initiate policy that will bring The Great Reset to fruition. None of this information is hidden. The WEF has a youtube channel. If the vision of the richest people on earth (who became astronomically richer over the past two years) is for complete authoritarian control of humanity and finite resources then we have a problem. I'm all for making considerate purchasing choices and not living excessively but I will not quietly conform to a boot of force on my neck and I will not relinquish the property I've worked my fingers to the bone to acquire to a handful of maniacal ghouls. Case in point, who's stated goal is net zero carbon emissions? It's the same guy who now owns the most farmland in the US, the same guy who travels via private jet, the guy who has the most expensive mansion in San Diego, a compound in Washington State, etc etc etc. Yes, Bill Gates, probably one of the biggest single carbon footprints on the planet.

I am a Daughter of the Revolution. My mother went in to labor with me on July 4th and birthed me 07-07-77. I was born one month early, backwards, upside down, with a cord wrapped around my neck, with mutant bones, ears and eyes. My mother was amazing and she died a homeless woman in 2018, a mentally and physically disabled addict with a beautiful, heart of gold. I believe the crisis is also about health and being at home in our bodies. Much love.

RE Consumerism and food supply: I'd encourage everyone to investigate local CSA (community supported agriculture) programs. You can usually subscribe for a portion of a harvest at a local farm for fruits vegetables and meats. Also you can have greater choice about growing conditions (organic etc) and even tour the farm(s). Because of the amounts typically included you will naturally gravitate towards canning/preserving or trade

The issue with homelessness hit home for me, im in NY and it's so horrible here, there's a housing crisis and drug crisis as well and it makes me want to leave here so bad, aside from other things, like pointless mandates that has people losing their job. Alice Miller in her book “drama of the gifted child” talks about how wounded adults who have anger towards their parents often project that anger onto politicians because these are public figures who they do not know. Very insightful you picked up on that.

I’ve personally experienced this to the extreme since 2008. I’m a cancer sun & rising, and every extended family relationship and my marriage has imploded. Around $ too. It’s been so hurtful. I only talk with my 3 kids now, they’re now in their 20’s and adults. We are a tribe and only trust each other. Everyone else has proven themselves untrustworthy and manipulative. Thank you Skye for speaking about the homeless crisis. It's a reflection of aspects that are dark and ugly and sick in our collective. The drastic increase in the cost of rent and real estate is an out growth of the same sickness that caused the increase in homelessness. It should make all of us, even the uber wealthy, feel a nauseous panic in the pit of their stomach to know that an increasing number of people are finding affordable housing out of their range. There's an ever increasing wealth gap which indicates an America that is on its way down. Like always, the driving force is greed by those who already have. Wealthy investors are buying up real estate and flipping into obscene profits. Recently, I was invited to a townhall meeting for a local person hoping to make it onto the fall ballot for state representatives. Before the meeting we were invited to submit questions. I asked what this hopeful had in mind for making affordable housing attainable for regular people. The office seeker refused to address my question.The fact that he refused to answer my question raised red flags for me. I am familiar with this person. He is a retired physician with enough money to have options. Was he one of these real estate investors seeking to make lots of money in our attractive "Pure Michigan " areas? IDK but it stinks of this. We need to not take the availability housing for granted and seriously consider ways to guard our "right" to have an affordable and secure place to call home. We cannot be passive about this or soon private ownership of residence will be a thing of the past.

A lot have tried to resolve it but there are some people who aren’t able to resolve it no matter how hard they try. People aren’t wired all the same. Some are born very sensitive others are not. It can be overwhelming if you’ve not gone through traumatic events yourself. Especially when you’ve been hit HARD by life over and over and over and over. There is a point where someone will eventually just break and will remain broken no matter what they do. That’s the point of no return. However, I don’t see finding some kind of small positive outcome as necessarily “toxic positivity”. From all I’ve seen and been through, toxic positivity is when people disregard anything negative in favor of hearing ONLY positive things all of the time. The “love and light” crowd and LOA (Law of Attraction) believers are prime examples of toxic positivity.

Toxic Positivity is not the same; my point was that the two are easily conflated for someone whose interest was to reinforce negativity to themselves. It feels to me that until we suspend judgment as to our country's homeless crisis, and judgment of others in general, it will be difficult to get traction. My spiritual teachers taught me that if I help another sentient being, it needs to be anonymous. We are a country that, through Hollywood and technology, has tried to jockey for a position for their 15 minutes of fame. I believe this has caused further division. The US is one of the largest, most spacious and also richest countries in the world... and yet our idiot billionaires are blasting off into space rather than facing the problems that they, at least in part, created (on the West Coast especially). (I know that it's a multi-faceted problem.... but it does have a lot to do with the 1% getting richer). I have not always been very sensitive to those who are homeless but I have grown/matured emotionally and spiritually in recent years. People are often so quick to help animal shelters but often forget about our fellow humans, especially the elderly and children and people with mental ailments including addiction. Your message has inspired me to look into how I can help the homeless. Thank you!

I am really thankful for this information.
I am in a senior building where there is either mold or asbestos. Been here 3 years and my health has been taking a big hit. Odd thing is the building was sold and they had to inspect and do over after 27 years much, but it's even worse.
I'm moving but so are dying and sick here. A pity.
