Great series guys. Just subscribed. I am a huge fan of the Leslie cab on guitar, especially the Ringo Starr "It don't come easy" intro and Cream's "Badge" both George Harrison's guitar going through a Leslie. That's the sound I want to duplicate.

I've been wanting one for a long time and just got it in today. I love it. Definitely required some experimentation as far as placement and settings but I dig it. I can't wait to record it in stereo.

I’m sure it will sound great recorded in stereo. I use to run them pre drive like a univibe but lately I run the leslie type pedals near the end, before delay and reverb, or in the effects loop.

Not a bad demo at all! It's a good pedal that simulates a Leslie on it's own.
The real test for me would be to check this out set to a good driven Leslie in one amp, then drive a Fender Twin with the guitar, separately, and see if I can get that legendary tone combination!
I would love to find the "Leslie" pedal that can do that!

PJ and the Beard - that’s exactly what I like the most. I really love the Hermida Audio Rotary Reverb and have been using it over the last few years but being able to change the rate without touching the pedal would be awesome. Thanks for the reply. I’ll work my way through your other videos. Happy New Year. Mark.

Always switching between Vibe, Tremelo and Leslie modulation? I have the Pinwheel, and couldn’t deal with the Drive/Level going into the front of my 5e3 clone. Was going to sell it…
I have a new amp, and now I’m back into my rotation again! Maybe I just need a bigger board? 🤔

LOL 😂 the light seriously is blindly bright! I taped mine as well.

Nothing wrong with a bigger board! Of course swapping things in and out is fun too. Keeps it fresh.

    Great video!
Which one you guys think is the best/most realistic Leslie pedal out there? My vote goes to the Mini Vent (especially when played with a bit of gain. Has that raspy Leslie thing going )but I REALLY like the (stereo) features of the Fender. Pretty undecided at this point. What would you suggest? Thanks!

Sorry I missed this comment! Hard thing to recommend because so many sound so good and everone's taste is a bit different. I really love the H&K Tube Rotosphere, but that is impractical most of the time. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the Neo stuff. Definitely one of the best, but you pay for it. The Strymon Lex, DLS RotoSpin, Pigtronix Rotosphere, and Mini and Micro Vents are all still here. We definitely had trouble parting with the Fender Pinwheel, Boss RT-20, Tech 21 RotoChoir, and the Hammond Leslie G but you can't keep them all no matter how good they are. I have to admit the Line 6 and Korg were both really good too. The Fender Pinwheel has some cool features that are unique too. If you know which ones you think you like the sound of check out the feature set to help make the decision.

I dont hear the two different speeds and speedup/slowdown ramps for the high horn vs the bass speaker. To me thats crucial for that lesly sound.

Been a while since I had this one plugged non but you may be right. Super important feature.

How does it compare to the new Neo Micro Vent(s)? The Neo Instruments pedals seem to be the reference for rotary effects but as they are pretty expensive some competition certainly wouldn't hurt.
I have been looking for a new rotary pedal since the day I sold my (noisy) H&K Rotosphere. Your videos are definitely a great resource but i still can't decide on what I should get.

The pinwheel is great. I love the sensitivity feature that reacts to how you play. I agree that the neo stuff sets a high standard but having a tube rotosphere I don’t think you would be disappointed in the fender. Most of the pedals we have reviewed sound great but add their own little twist. I think it comes down to the features you want and the parameters you want to control.

      @@PJandtheBeard Thanks for your reply!
The thing is, I don't need the Fender's sensitivity feature but at the same time it has stereo I/O which with Neo Instruments only the crazy expensive Vent 2 has...
Judging by all the available demos nothing sounds quite like the Vents, but the Micro Vent with its reduced feature set (mono, 1 footswitch) seems outrageously expensive to me, the Mini Vent has no right to exist any longer since the micro came out (inconvenient 12V, no real stereo either, same prize tho) and the Vent 2 with its size seems more targeted at keyboard/organ players. In terms of features Fender did everything right in my opinion, but I'm not so sure about the sound.
Testing them side by side is unfortunately not an option since (decent) music shops are an absolute rarity in Germany these days...
Or am I too hysteric about stereo? With all the Leslie pedals you have tested have you ever found the need for stereo operation?

Does it de-tune? Or are you just playing out-of-tune?

    • @PJandtheBeard
      @PJandtheBeard  4 года назад

Often leslie pedals are based on chorus and phasing effects. I do not believe they de-tune. So, I guess we are just playing out-of-tune. We do tune with Boss TU-2 or snark tuners before every episode. Maybe your ears are just more accurate. Thanks for watching.

PJ and the Beard then bend those strings a little harder so it doesn’t sound off.
