In this video I discuss the Idoneth Deepkin! This is my review of the range of models for the Deepkin. Watch the video to hear my full thoughts on them, including a ranking of my favourite models!
Did you enjoy the video? Are these a faction you collect or want to collect?? Let me know in the comments down below!
(UPDATE: stay safe! I hope you are all well. The one positive to this virus situation is that it is allowing me to make some videos! love all you guys and girls.
PREVIOUS UPDATE: I’m about to start a pretty big career change: From September 18 I will do teacher training (chemistry), which is a very, VERY demanding training course. It will take up a lot of my time, so I would be lying to say RUclips won’t be affected. This really saddens me but I will do my best to keep my channel afloat where I can! This is easily one of the best journeys I have ever undertaken and I have no plans to stop!).
I’m still having a blast making these videos and that is all thanks to you amazing people that support me. This video is mostly for people who are new to Age of Sigmar and want to know more about getting started. I personally love AoS and hope that making videos like these gets more people into the hobby. Just remember to respect other people’s opinions. Anyway, stay awesome :)

Deepkin are my favorite AOS faction by far. You can really use every paint color. Unit ideas for the future: swarms of jellyfish, crab heavy infantry, orca chariots. As for the Kracken, ally in the Kharribdyss! It's literally a sea monster squid!

    • @Kitetsu

Elegant is a good word for these models. Pretty nice! I agree about having a more menacing type of beast instead of a sea turtle like that. I would have asked the artist to come up with some type of interesting mount/saddle thing.

Designing Eidolon of Mathlann's Armour: "We have giant squid, angler fish, octopi, killer whales, barracuda, eels, billfish, sharks, as well as monsters to choose from! What should we use as the motif for the armour of the dead god of the seas?!"
    "Happy fishy"
The King helmet with the golden crest is one of the coolest models that I've ever seen. The colours they've chosen for this whole range are garish imo.
Great video; I don't even paint but I enjoyed your work!

While small, the thralls and reavers have been my favorite to paint. Mathlan was a pain to try and get that rushing water look down its robes. And on top of that its weapons are thin. Mine is currently broken. I really like the saddle part of the allopexes.

    • @Kitetsu

Revan Rushardi you’re totally right and ive always felt this, what bothers me is the theme and lore being so reminiscent of DE but the faction being a “good” faction - always a relative term. But IDK are at least a sympathetic faction, we are meant to feel for them and their tragic background. But they raid innocent villages and drag them to the bottom of the sea to steal their souls - that’s very DE, and DE are probably the most vile and odious faction in 40k, which is saying something. They are unambiguously bad guy, is what I’m saying. Having an ambiguous moral setting is fine and can work well (DoK) but I feel these guys suit a more “good” theme and the soul stealing is what put me off

My main want is something akin to a giant whale or fish. I could imagine a rule for it just zucking up an entire unit by rolling a bunch of dice (roll more if its against a battle shocked unit or a unit at under half strength. Then if you're dice drop the unit to 0 it dies, if not nothing happens and they manage to hang out each other and their surroundings to resist ze zuck

Amazing review series, dude! A long commentar to your idea of creatures without elves on top (lorebased):
The thing with the monsters always being ridden by elves and being bound and with their eyes covered gives them an air of submisson, a clear master/slave idea. this is further enhanced by the lore (there is a short story about the people in charge of forcing the creatures into submission, which they do with a weird pain-inflicting staff. The idea is that they have nothing to do with the old high elves or wood elves, that were one with nature, so that these giant eagles, lions and trees would choose to fight with them. The world of the Idoneth is harsh and unforgiving and they dont have the pleasure of having emotions or being kind. They just torture their mounts until they are dumb, submissive creatures that totally bow to their masters. Its really dark and cool :) They are not dark elf "bad" because they enjoy suffering so much, they are a missshaped race of blind, soulless people doomed to die and abandoned by Teclis that have learned to survive by submitting their surroundings to them. They will be a beautiful antithesis to the Lumineth, even if both are on the same side fighting Chaos.

    • @Kitetsu
      @Kitetsu  4 года назад +1

I literally never thought of it in that way. I guess I was just looking at getting some cool sea monsters 😂😂 but yeah that’s a great little insight into the deepkin. What about sea monsters that had chains on them? And if deepkin had their own “beast herder” units ? That could work

9:00 They did similar things with the Stegadon and Bastiladon too. If you remove the howdah or Arc or whatever, their backs look utterly bizarre. It's always annoyed me how flat they are, since real life dinosaurs had less broad lizardlike backs and more vertically raised backs, if that makes sense.

It’s funny how much you praise the more out there, wacky approach AoS is taking to its lore and models compared to classic Fantasy, because that is the very thing that many big and long time fans of Warhammer very much dislike about AoS. At least you recognize how this could not appeal to many people though, and aren’t so thick as to not pick up on this like some AoS fans. Like in Fantasy the whole lore and vibe was at least relatable to our world in the medieval-renaissance, much more fantastical of course, but still relatable. That goes for the lore and aesthetic of (most) of the factions as well.
AoS is more like playing in for most fantasy settings would be the ancient mythical age, the mythological primordial times shortly after the creation of the world (like when the old gods were still around at the time Chaos first tried entering the world in Fantasy) when things were still very... “out there”. BUT for all settings I know of really except for AoS that stuff has been kept as interesting backstory that has little to do with the current state of things in the lore, as it would be too wacky and unrelatable for most people... or at least the writers have thought in the past, thinking being closer to Tolkinesque is fantastical enough for most.
So yeah for me initially I was very much on the side of the old guard who disliked the more wild feel of AoS. There are no new AoS factions resembling actual historical armies like Bretonnia or The Empire (not counting Cities because they already existed). I tend to only really want to play Order armies and Deepkin and Slyvaneth just seemed far too “out there” for me (especially since Slyvaneth lost the wood elves I did not like that at all). Stormcast seemed like over the top “He-Man” type people... and I heard most of the old Fantasy units in Cities didn’t have good rules (this was before their battletome).
Now though I’m not sure why, maybe it’s because I got tired of just watching 40k battlereports, and maybe it’s because watching old Fantasy reports I started to see how the rank and flank could limit the possibilities (there are good things about it too though), and after more exposure I started to even see how more imaginative armies that push the limits of good vs excessive creativity could actually make the game more varied and interesting.
... so now I’ve basically come around and have a positive opinion of AoS in general, my main issues now being the way too small range in many if not most armies, especially the new ones ... also this is a personal preference but I think the ratio of “good” (as in GW’s grimdark version of good I don’t mean Boy Scouts) armies to “bad” is too low (even in the order alliance like three of the armies are basically “bad”, not even grim dark “good” like the Fantasy order factions, except for one thing, that they fight Chaos). Anyway now I can definitely appreciate the Deepkin and other more out there, imaginative factions... I think it just took time for me to get used to that level of creativity that pushes the limits.

Sorry to break it to you but you're not unique, I love the Namarti, I way prefer the idea of very deep see elves that have lighter skin and no eyes because there is no light where they're from, to just the standard elves but this time underwater and with big fishes that the rest of the range has. If I ever make some deepkins I will for sure make them more like the Namarti.
