I always have those nervous feelings before a hike or a solo camp, and sometimes afterwards thinking about it, but usually not when I'm there. I'm sure it's a primal instinct.
Going back to self standing tents is so relaxing isn’t it? I’ve done the same on a recent bike packing trip and it was so nice to be able to pick up the whole thing and re-align it
Love the video & scenery! I've been to Brisbane and Sidney while I was in The United States Marine Corps and met some great Australian Military guys. I'd love to go back some day and spend a month there. I'm looking forward to more freeze dried meal videos. That's what led me to your channel. I made 3 of them myself last night that'll be testing out & figuring out portion size, reheating amounts etc with.
So cool thanks for coming along for the hike. Oh yes I’ll have to get some more recipes out there. I did some great camp cooking in an upcoming video with freeze dried diced steak
Thanks. Yeah totally it’s strange hey. I do sometimes wonder when, not if, I’ll come undone. So much preparation goes into my hikes but at the end of the day the wrong step on an uneven rock can be all it takes. We are so lucky to have such amazing emergency response services in Australia.
Stunning! such a beautiful hike! I bought one of those Garmin InReach mini for the exact same reason. It lives off in my pocket, no need to be constantly connected apart from those little two way checkins, its been a good worth while for myself and wife with little son at home that we both know everything is OK.

Good to be going through unburnt country. The fishing person often has aspirations of providing the fish dinner but good to have the backup plan for dinner. Until the final few frames, I was thinking that it was prime tick country. A good pair of flat tweezers and a steady hand and some grit to dig the little buggers out. A controlled snake siting is the way to go 😂
Good to see you out there again Kate. Beautiful spot! You will be fine on the big one, once you get into the rhythm of it. I think those feelings are normal! :)
Thanks Sam yeah you are totally right. It’s strange hey. I guess it’s almost a good thing to feel nervous, do your research and then go and achieve your goals. Makes the achievement feel all the more rewarding
@@KateGrarock 100% Kate! :) I think those 'nerves' are a combination of anticipation, excitement, adrenaline etc. If we aren't out of our comfort zone, we don't grow, right!! PS Finally got my first 'proper' vid out there. ;)
Lovely lakeside camp, beautifully shot. Hopefully a nice entree to a big trip main to come! My mum has been advocating for me to get a 2-way satellite thingo. It makes sense but I haven't got there yet.
It's funny how we've evolved with the technology. As a youngster I'd blithely wander off into the bush for days without mobile or GPS. Or travelling it would: oh there's a payphone, should call home. Yet as a parent we've just had our 17 year old go overseas for the first time. Organised sport tour, nothing wild. But I was the sookiest nervous nell. Surely she should be back in wifi range to check in any minute now! @@KateGrarock
If it doesn't feel too 'paid promotion' it would be good to hear your view of the options. My barely researched take so far is that the Garmin has slightly better functionality, but the Zoleo is cheaper to maintain especially if you don't get out a lot (can suspend subscription).
yeah it’s strange. I once heard it described as - remember when we would write a letter, post it and then wait for the reply. I now get an email from a workmate, who then calls and texts to discuss the email. There has got to be a middle ground.
@@motchev I’ve not used the Inreach but I use the garmin gpsmap and I hate the background setup - it’s clunky and a bit confusing. Not what you want in an emergency device. I found Zoleo much easier. But if I was you I’d workout what features you want eg breadcrumb tracking is extra $8 a month. I like this feature as if I loose it or I fall off a cliff my last known location will be known by my family. My Zoleo phone number never changes so my friends and fam can save me as Kate Zoleo in their phones. Apparently the garmin number can change. Zoleo can put subscription on hold for 4$ per month. I was extremely impressed with connectivity on my Zoleo in a gorge. Zoleo basic with tracking is $40 and garmin is the same if you want tracking. There is a cheaper garmin plan without tracking. Not sure about garmin but I can also check the weather at my location or at a point I selected in the map. Great for gorge country I could check 150km away at the top of the catchment. Zoleo also have a thing called medical assist it’s an advisory service provided by Global Rescue. It provides subscribers with easy access to advice from medical professionals. Haven’t tested it but thought it could be a nice intermediate step to pushing sos.
Nice one Kate . We love those lakes down south for kayak camping . The birds in the morning wow !
They are so special. Happy kayaking
Wow the sunrise on that lake was spectacular!
How nice and calm was it. Thanks for coming along with us
Gorgeous spot, glorious morning.
Absolutely. Thanks for coming along with us
Lovely shots of the lake in the morning and the bird sounds were amazing. Watching from the UK and your winters look warmer than our summers!
Oh so glad you enjoyed it. It was spectacular weather hey. Hi from Australia hope you are keeping warm

Thanks for joining us on the hike.
Gotta love the early morning birdsong when camping. ❤
How darn good is it.
Nice video Kate. I think a little bit of nervousness before a trip is good; stops you from being complacent

Nice one 👍 Cheers
Thanks Alan. Hope you’re well
I love how you tell a story to the camera like you’re telling a friend.
Thanks a lot. I try to think of the camera as one of my best mates. Hard sometimes. But great to hear you see it.
Absolutely beautiful ambience, it’s good to see you on the trail again! Camping spot was just amazing!

@@KateGrarock have you been enjoying the minus temperatures each morning recently?
So much fun. I get to ice skate on my deck and make hand prints in the balustrade with my daughter
Good to see you out on the trail again, even if 'the trail' was bush bashing :)
So keen to find an actual track one day. Thanks mate
What a beautiful spot!

Morning coffee in bed, with a view to die for. Very jealous!

I like it but I’m not sure I like how fragile the base is.
