    Also Wilner conveniently ignored the fact that Colorado jumped to the Big 12 the week before and Arizona and the Big 12 agreed to a deal the day before the Pac-12 meeting. I love how David kept the pressure on him about his feelings towards the Big 12.

  • @malmypdx895
    @malmypdx895 Год назад +57

    Wilner's biases rendered him utterly incapable of appreciating the peril that the Pac was facing for 9 months after Yormark snagged the last decent media deal. He constantly moved goalposts on how he assessed the Pac's prospects and he failed to push back on Canzano's defamatory attacks on real journalists' reports of the Pac's struggles. I don't know why anybody is seeking out his perspective on where things stand now...he has demonstrated a lack of credibility throughout this saga.

    • @jimsomerville3924
      @jimsomerville3924 Год назад

      Nobody has analyzed and reported the missteps and increasingly woeful state of the Pac for years than him. His forte is not in working the rumor mill and being the first to tweet out source's comments. And his sources are in the conference and Bay Area not the mountain schools or Big 12- where the breakup was triggered. But he long ago acknowledged that conference breakup was a possibility.
      What he really misreported was his attempt at "media economics" and repeatedly stating going to market would lead to more money rather than timing the degrading market as Yormark did.

      I hate blaming any of the schools athletic departments. They are in a position to compete and they have to have results. The AD’s and coaches have a lot of pressure to win. If you don’t, they get fired. Imagine being any one of those AD’s and receiving an offer to get out of a sinking ship, who’s going to say know? They have a job to do, and that’s to give their programs the best opportunity to win.
      I truly put the blame on Larry Scott and the school presidents. They allowed Scott to call all the shots, even when it was obvious he was repeatedly making mistakes. His salary was ridiculous. He moved the PAC-12’s HQ to a high rise in downtown San Francisco that had a insane monthly fee. He turned down ESPN as a partner for the PAC-12 network. He made one mistake after another. He literally had Texas and OU begging to join and he did nothing with it.
      All this was taking place when the PAC-12 was considered the top conference in college football. He was stacking bad decisions on top of poor decisions. I remember scratching my head at the presidents for not stepping in and getting rid of him.
      The death of the PAC falls squarely on him and the presidents.

Reality is harsh, reality is always evolving, reality requires knowledge, reality requires growth, and reality requires change! And change is hard, often extremely hard! “Acceptance is the key to all my problems today.”

    It is a sad situation for Oregon State. However, they had 100+ years in a PAC 12 conference that other schools would have loved to be part of. What did they do to earn their seat at the table? Why them instead of BYU, Utah, UNLV, SDSU, Boise St? Oregon State have the short straw now. Well, how many other schools have had the short straw for the past 100 years (BYU, Houston, Cincinatti, etc.). It's sad they're losing their seat, but I personally don't think they ever should have had one.
