Back when this took place, Crabtree wasn't the big lump that everyone knows him as. He was actually in brilliant shape at that time in his life and was a lifeguard. Not that it really matters but it paints the picture better. Although, the image of Sykes and 27 stone Big Daddy in full leotard is a funnier image 🤣

Whatever you think of Paul Sykes he was a character and a force of nature. Had he channelled his gifts to better effect he may have been a boxing champion of the world. I also think he could have been a brilliant actor. A natural raconteur, storyteller and showman.
What a shame he chose to be a bully and damaged his own family. Maybe there was abuse in his own family and the drink was a coping mechanism? I think there’s more sub text and unknown history to the story.
I think he was a complex person and a contradiction in terms. Who knows the root of his demons and the ghosts that haunted him. Fascinating nonetheless. I hope he found peace in the next life because he evidently did not find it in this one.🙏❤️.x

Sykes was notorious for spending time at home. It was romoured he once spent 4 DAYS at home before he ended up back in his real home of Armley jail. No wonder his wife , Kath, spent so much time at church. She was praying for Sykes to be sentenced for something which would get him at least ten years. That day he got out and came home from prison, he IMMEDIATELY took control and pulled the blinds up (or down) and told Kath why it was better to be done HIS way and made himself once more lord and master of his council home and terrorised his wife and kids into total submission and humiliation. Well done Sykesy. You must have died happy, knowing the shouts of delight you would create when you took your last breath. You and Duffy created the exact effect on your own towns' people when you died....PURE RELIEF AND SCREAMS OF DELIGHT FROM YOUR MANY, MANY ENEMIES.

Mate, get an Ipad or iphone and jot down the main topics you want to hit while talking. Under each topic put your keywords, dates and names so you can just glance down and get a quick refresh. Use it like a teleprompter. Theres a lot of dead air and umming and aaahing when you trying to recall info , I think it would help the flow of the presentation a lot plus it would stop the narrative bouncing back and forward and just keep it more linear so you aren't doubling back or repeating yourself. Editing it a bit and removing non pertinent info instead of posting the whole thing would sharpen it up a bit too. Just constructive criticism!

Maybe he put it around so often that people, so intimidated into telling him otherwise, convinced him that he was the real deal when it came to brains. Never knew him, or anyone that did, but of what I remember of him back in the day, and coming from Leeds he was in the local press and on local TV quite often so I learned a bit about his roughouse ways, he came across as nothing much more than a nasty piece of work.
